Ascension of Chaos

B2 | Chapter 38

Ashley

The only thing that really comes to mind from seeing her appearance is gold. Everything is gold. Her skin is practically a lustrous golden peach color, her hair is gold, her eyes are gold, and her robe is gold.

And on top of all that, she has a peaceful and kind expression on her face. All of which at least resemble what I'd expect of the Primordial of Virtue.

She also has some symbols that I don't recognize appearing once in a while in her eyes. No doubt the Symbols of Virtue.

Lux looks between everyone here before settling on the Primordials and stating, "Chaos. Etheria. You appear to be doing well."

Chaos replies with a short and simple question without bothering with being polite, "Why would you possibly make those two into your Successors? Are you out of your mind?"

Meanwhile Etheria doesn't actually say anything, but it's rather obvious she's thinking the same thing considering the single raised brow she's sending Lux's way.

I find myself a little surprised hearing this, since Chaos sounded so sure about why Lux did it before. Yet now he's questioning her.

"Just because I can understand why she would consider it doesn't mean I understand why she would risk getting on my and Etheria's bad side for them," Chaos answers in my head without taking his glare away from Lux.

My thoughts halt for a moment when I see the Black and White Enforcers heading this way with their eyes glancing between me, Blake, and Lux. All without seeming to even notice Chaos or Etheria here.

That changes though the moment they get close enough that the Primordials' perception blocking stops affecting them. Making them instantly wary of Chaos.

Probably because of that curse he put on them.

But they still continue approaching before eventually stopping behind Lux without saying a word despite the many things they obviously want to say filling their eyes.

I guess they're rather obedient to the Primordial of Virtue. That's a little surprising.

"The two children are virtuous and pure, yet righteous at heart and powerful," Lux answers while looking Chaos in the eyes. "They are perfect wards to join my Successors." She turns to look at me and Blake. "Which should make these two my-"

Chaos releases a wave of chaos energy that floods the entire room, startling and even frightening the other people in the ballroom. Even as the Successor of Order arrives to seemingly calm things down.

Not that he does much.

The Primordial of Order, on the other hand, does, when he arrives to join the fray. Placing four Primordials in the same room.

Although Justicar doesn't actually say anything despite arriving. All he does is protect the people in the ballroom from the chaos energy so that they don't just mutate into random creatures simply by being exposed to it.

Probably because of their little rules for Primordials not to harm mortals from newly initialized worlds.

He doesn't look particularly happy while doing this though.

"You should watch your mouth, Duvlah," Chaos growls out while scowling at Lux, whose perfect mask of a face slips for a single instant at the name he called her. A name I have no understanding of the meaning of.

This novel is published on a different platform. Support the original author by finding the official source.

But it must mean something to make her slip up on her perfect façade.

"Duvlah is an ancient word from a language before the System that means two-faces," Chaos explains in my head without turning his anger away from Lux. "I just called her a two-faced person."

Ah. Understandable.

The two Enforcers look surprised by the slipup on Lux's face, and Etheria seems to have expected it. Just like Justicar who seems irritated at having to be here. Kind of like he's babysitting or something.

I guess that means Chaos and Lux get into arguments a lot?

"When we see each other, yes, but not when Erebos is around," Chaos answers in my head again. "When Erebos is around, the two of them can't get enough of poking and prodding at each other for the upper hand. So much so that they forget everyone else in the room."

Huh. Guess even the Primordial of Virtue is still like a regular person too. One who gets into arguments over petty things.

"While we're here, how about we discuss something important?" the Primordial of Virtue says, clearly changing the topic from his insult. "I would like to ask how much it would take for you to remove the curse you planted on-"

"I will never be removing that curse," Chaos declares with ironclad resolution in his voice and genuine hatred as he glances at the two Enforcers hiding behind Lux. "If you didn't wish to have cursed Successors, you should've chosen better."

His words clearly anger Lux, but she once again doesn't respond to his taunts. Instead she asks, "Will your children be participating in the System Tower?"

I blink at the before frowning.

System Tower? I know I've heard mention of it before, but what-

"That is up to them, but I doubt either of them will miss the opportunity," Etheria says while I'm still thinking. And Blake quickly nods his head in agreement. Clearly already knowing what this System Tower thing is.

"The System Tower is a universal Domain created personally by the System itself with ties to all ten Primordials, and it opens once every century to those who have been initialized into the System during the time since the last System Tower," Chaos answers me in my head. Then he moves on to answer Lux out loud, "If Ashley wishes to participate, she may do so. But the decision is up to her."

It sounds rather interesting. You said it was a Domain?

What type of Domain?

"It is a special Domain that ranges all the way from the lowest Class to Class B in power," Chaos answers as Lux moves on to asking Justicar the same question. "The Domain is different from other Domains in both its scale and that there are trials throughout it along with numerous different quests instead of the one single quest other Domains will have. Additionally, the System Tower has a leaderboards for all those who enter it. And the System grants the ones atop the leaderboards rewards for their achievements."

Ah. Okay. That does sound interesting.

When does this System Tower appear?

"In one month," Chaos answers as Lux turns her question towards the Primordial of Order.

Okay. I guess I'll participate.

I'm guessing it will give me a lot of new Skill Trees and Skill Points after all. So there's no reason not to.

"That's correct," Chaos states. "But please be careful when you enter it. Because while it isn't as dangerous as a Unique Domain, it can be far more dangerous than most other Domains. And please know your limits."

Gotcha.

And with that, Chaos turns his focus back to Lux. Clearly still trying to figure out why she is even here, not to mention why she made the Enforcers into her Successors.

Which are both really good questions, but at this point most of my focus is on this System Tower thing. Because it honestly sounds really interesting.

And depending on how many Skill Points it gives me, I could even try getting that new Successor Skill I got access to unlocking. Maybe.

The System Tower would have to give me a lot of Skill Points for that. Far more than these Planetary Official System Events or even the Unique Domain gave.

So I don't think I'm going to be getting my hopes up for that. But who knows? It could happen.

At this point I kind of just tune out from the arguing of the Primordials as I look at the punch in my hand and swirl it around in circles, just watching the drink swish in the glass. Then I look out the window at the city outside.

It's nice to have another target. Because I was getting a little bored not having any actual goals besides getting stronger.

I think that Unique Domain probably spoiled me and ruined my perception of normal.

That thought makes me let out a sigh before I take a deep drink of my punch before glancing at Chaos as he begins to ignore Lux entirely to tease Etheria. Getting him a splash of ice cold water to the face for the trouble from the woman.

Despite their having broken up long ago, they still act like a married couple…

Chaos just suddenly winks at me, no doubt hearing my thoughts. And that sight has me losing it and letting out a quiet giggle of amusement.

Which attracts the attention of the Enforcers and Blake, all of whom look happy for some reason.

But I ignore them to stare out the window.

I hope this System Tower is as interesting as it sounds.
