Ascension of the Mortal God

Chapter 25: The Flames of Rebellion

Chapter 25: The Flames of Rebellion

Nightfall draped Raventhorn Keep in shadows as Kael and his warriors moved with silent precision. The scouting warband sent by the gods had unknowingly sealed its fate—tonight, they would not return.

Kael led the assault himself, his blade whispering through the darkness. The first guard barely had time to register his presence before cold steel slit his throat. Selene struck next, her daggers flashing like the eyes of a predator, cutting down another before he could sound the alarm.

Darius crashed into the enemy line with brutal force, his axe carving through armor and bone. The gods' warriors were trained, but they were unprepared for the ambush. Raventhorn's rebels fought like men possessed, striking with precision, fury, and the desperate hunger of those who had tasted victory and refused to let it slip away.

Varian moved unseen, his blade finding the gaps between plates of divine armor, cutting down his targets before they could react. The gods' warband was strong, but against the force of Kael's newly forged army, they fell one by one.

By the time the last warrior collapsed, choking on his own blood, the battle was over.

Kael exhaled, wiping his blade clean. "No survivors."

Selene crouched beside one of the fallen, her golden eyes gleaming. "They were only scouts. The real force won't be far behind."

Darius smirked, resting his axe on his shoulder. "Then we'll be ready."

Kael turned toward Raventhorn Keep, his fortress, his rebellion's heart. The gods would come. They would bring their wrath, their legions, their divine champions.

But Kael had forged something new tonight—something greater than mere resistance.

He had started a war.

And he would see it through to the end.
