Chapter 228_3
He spat blood, his voice hoarse: "Wilhelm, the true sun... will stop you..."
Near the Sword Bay area, there are several famous cities, such as Waterdeep City, Elturel, Neverwinter, and others. Waterdeep City was established on the former capital of the Elf Empire Ilfaen—Erin Vier's old site, and hosts numerous temples to the Divine. The Miracle Temple is the most magnificent Magic Goddess Temple in the game, featuring splendid high towers embedded with various artworks and magical decorations, exuding a luxurious Baroque style. In contrast, Neverwinter City is more inclined towards Gothic architecture, emerging as a human settlement over a century of development in Aegostor. The story's main city, Bod Gate, is the largest and most prosperous trade city-state in the Sword Bay Region, inhabited by nobles to commoners and thieves alike. It is considered a "breeding ground for conspirators" by adventurers. The name "Bod Gate" comes from a hero, Gray Harbor adventurer Bodlan, who, after exploring the continent beyond the Sword Sea and returning with wealth to Gray Harbor, led a team to establish a city here.
Based on the status of its residents, Bod Gate is divided into Upper City for the nobles and Lower City for the commoners, with an Outer City District scattered around Chenyi Mountain. The gate separating the Upper City and Lower City is called Bod Gate, which also names the entire city and serves as a monument to Bodlan, the city's founder.
Currently, Bod Gate is governed by a four-person council, all of whom are Grand Dukes. One of them is the leader of the council, and if a vote ends in a tie, decisions are made by Grand Duke Elder Ravenclaw. The security of the Upper City is managed by the elite official police force, the Watch, while other areas are handled by a mercenary group named "Flaming Fist." Grand Duke Elder Ravenclaw is also the supreme leader of the mercenary group, headquartered at Bodlan Sea Tower, the strongest fortress against sea invasions for Bod Gate. Like a crescent embracing the economic lifeline of Bod Gate—Gray Harbor, hundreds of merchant ships come and go daily, bringing gold coins, as well as greed and sin.
The higher terrain of Upper City consists of the Castle District, Temple District, Manoburn District, and Wide Alley District, containing many religious buildings. The Miracle Hall and Supreme Miracle House are the centers of the Church of the God of Craft Gund in Bod Gate. Miracle Hall showcases Gund's great inventions, while Supreme Miracle House also functions as a workshop. The Lower City mainly consists of stone houses with six districts: Sea Tower District, Blonrich District, Steep District, Crowded Side District, East Road District, and Branpton District. The middle class usually resides in the Blonrich District, close to the prestigious Upper City. In contrast, East Road District, which connects to the Outer City through the Stone Lizard Gate, is relatively more diverse, featuring lively bars and affordable inns. The Sea Tower District houses the Flaming Fist mercenary group. On the largest rocky offshore island in the Sea Tower District, the mercenary group's headquarters, Bodlan Sea Tower, is built. The Branpton District and Steep District are relatively rundown, serving as living communities for sailors and manual laborers. The Outer City is spread along the Chongsar River, filled with temporary buildings and slums. A landmark structure is a stone bridge spanning the Chongsar River—Flying Dragon Crossroad—supporting many vendors and even expanded with wooden boards to accommodate additional structures. Law and order are absent here, and even the Flaming Fist mercenary group's protection is severely limited. Those who cannot find a place in the city, including the impoverished and criminals, gather here.
