Chapter 245: Purgatory War
Outside the Bronze Fortress, the Abyssal Legion had already occupied the sky and earth, with piles of demon corpses emitting black smoke everywhere.
Frosthorn, Gesh Demon, and other winged demon species gathered in the sky, blocking out the blood-red canopy of Aphernas, while Giant Bull Demons, Berserker Demons, and Demon Giants rampaged on the ground, surging forward in a frenzy to attack the Hell Legion's fortifications.
The devils continued to fiercely resist, with the Chain Demon warriors clad in heavy armor at the front, and as the Magic Web fluctuated, a solid force field wall appeared on the line of defense, causing the demons at the forefront to crash into it and injure themselves.
The Horned Demon and Thorny Demon wielding steel forks leaped into the air, fighting to the death, causing one Winged Demon after another to fall from the sky.
The Devil Sorcerer, draped in robes, hovered in the air, chanting ancient and sinister incantations, with countless waves of Hellfire descending from the sky, bombarding the demons halted midway, as black smoke and screams erupted among the demons.
At that moment, a resounding horn sounded from the distance, and a frigid gale swept across the land, cooling the devils' weapons and armor to which a layer of frost adhered, accompanied by a hissing sound.
"These Hell mongrels are easy to crush. Obliterate them—for the great Angry Lord Koschech!"
The earth trembled as the devils on the battlefield gazed in terror into the distance, where several Abyss Giant Beasts, like small mountains, growled dully, while Demon Frost Giants rode on their backs, wielding spears and giant hammers, shouting battle cries like madmen.
Leading the Frost Giants was a towering figure clad in pitch-black heavy armor, wielding a giant hammer, with glowing cracks covering his body, twisted spikes sprouting from his elbows and knees, exuding an intense aura of chaos, clearly already corrupted by the Abyss.
He wore a black eyepatch, with a ghastly scar across his face, and the only remaining right eye flickered with a dark green flame.
The Frost Giant leader, while riding a Dragon Beast, crushed over a dozen low-level demons into pulp, cursing angrily, "Get out of my way! You worthless scum, you couldn't even break through the Hell mongrels' defenses for so long, and now you require the great Krum to intervene personally!"
This "great Krum" was a confidant of Koschech, who, after the fall of the Giant Pantheon, followed the Angry Lord into the Abyss, having fought across the realms for thousands of years and holding considerable renown in the Abyss.
The low-level demons stacked outside the force field wall were horrified, and under the oppression of status and fear of death, they hurriedly cleared a wide path.
"Hell's mongrels, you are only fit to tremble under Lord Koschech's army, and ultimately meet your end!"
Krum raised his giant hammer, shouting as he charged forward, and just before crashing into the fortifications, this Demon Frost Giant swung the giant hammer with one hand, throwing his full strength into smashing the power field wall.
In that moment, the space shattered, and the giant hammer brought with it a biting cold wind and the roar of chaos.
"Boom!"
Amidst a thunderous roar, a shockwave mixed with hail blasted hundreds of demons and devils into the air. Under this strike, the power field wall suddenly shattered, turning into countless glimmering magic fragments.
The Devil Officer's face twisted in rage, hoarsely shouting, "Quick! Stop that damned Demon Frost Giant!"
"Stop him! We must not let these Abyss mongrels disrupt the defenses!"
Krum swung the giant hammer, smashing several incoming devil soldiers into pieces, as the cold wind swept through, turning them into countless shards of ice flying skyward.
The Abyss Giant Beast beneath the Frost Giant also charged into the formation, instantly crushing dozens of Chain Demons into pulp.
Following closely were ten Frost Giant Cavalry, brandishing their warhammers and spears, kicking up dust and making the cold wind over the wasteland even sharper.
They were like a pointed iron hammer, violently smashing into the Hell Legion, creating a massive gap in the formerly tight defense line.
Krum swung his hammer down, causing the Devil Officer's head to burst like a breaking waterskin, splattering blood, while he laughed amidst the bloodshed, "The great Krum will smash everything! All of Hell will belong to us Frost Giants, to Lord Koschech!"
"Roar!"
With the power field wall destroyed, the demons, like floodwaters released through a sluice gate, surged into the defenses, fighting madly with the devils.
At this moment, the devils on the outer defense line were completely submerged in the mottled flood of demons, who scrambled to grab, bite, and gnaw on the devils' bodies, tearing the foremost dozen or so devil soldiers into pieces within moments.
The number of demons was more than twenty times that of the devils, with each demon like a rabid beast, bloodthirsty and fanatical, disregarding everything.
As a result, as soon as a melee broke out, the devils' organization, no matter how tight, and their tactics, no matter how complete, were useless. They could only watch as they were swallowed by the Magic Tide, becoming trophies for the crazed demons.
"We can't hold them!"
"Master Uriel, the demons are about to break through!"
The Commanding Officer of this defensive line, the Deep Prison Demon Refiner Uriel, looked toward the distant Magic Tide, gritting his teeth as he said, "The twenty-first legion and the twenty-second legion are lost causes. Have them buy us some time to retreat."
"Yes, my lord."
Although these two Hell Legions were not Uriel's direct subordinates, they still had considerable power, making him very reluctant.
But the Deep Prison Demon Refiner moved swiftly, abandoning his subordinates without hesitation, taking important equipment and organizing his elite troops, quickly retreating to the next defense line.
