At The Peak of One Piece

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Onigumo Unleashed

Smoker, overhearing Onigumo's remarks, stormed toward the Vice Admirals. Victor didn't stop him—he knew Smoker's ingrained sense of justice.

"Vice Admiral Onigumo," Smoker pushed through the crowd, glaring up at the three towering figures. "I can't ignore your words. Even as a superior, you must answer for them."

The officers eyed the elite trainee dismissively. A Logia user? Impressive for a rookie, but no threat to them.

"So the prodigy wants to play hero?" Onigumo sneered. "Everything I said includes you. Heard you surrendered to some recruit? Pathetic. Where's your pride? The elite camp's dignity?"

Smoker's temper ignited. His arm morphed into billowing smoke, fist rocketing toward Onigumo's face.

The Vice Admiral tilted his head lazily, evading the strike. Soru! He vanished, reappearing before Smoker—fist plunging into the younger man's chest… and out his back. No blood. No wound. Onigumo hadn't used Haki.

"Logia powers?" Onigumo scoffed, retreating effortlessly. "Only useful in Paradise. You're nothing to me."

But Smoker charged again. Soru! This time, his smoke-hardened fist slammed into Onigumo's ribs. The Vice Admiral staggered back, genuine pain flashing across his face.

"You insolent brat!" Onigumo roared, fist sheathing in black Armament Haki. "I held back—now you'll learn respect!"

Smoker deployed a smoke screen, but Onigumo's Observation Haki pierced it. Moon Walk! He soared, pinpointing Smoker's real body mid-air. A Haki-infused punch dispersed the smoke, hurling Smoker to the ground.

Before Smoker could rise, Onigumo was upon him—Soru! An uppercut launched him skyward. As Smoker flew, Onigumo intercepted him laterally, another brutal strike sending him sideways. Before gravity could take hold, Onigumo reappeared below—CRACK! A kick smashed him downward like a ragdoll.

"Victor!" Tina clutched his arm desperately. "Stop this! He'll kill Smoker!"

Rebecca echoed the plea.

Victor watched Smoker bounce across the plaza like a broken toy. "Fine. He's learned his lesson—hopefully."

He'd wanted Smoker humbled. Natural Fruit isn't invincible. Maybe now he'll train seriously.

"Tch, letting Onigumo show off like that... When will my Armament Haki finally awaken?!"

Victor sighed dramatically. If Smoker heard him, he'd probably mutter, "I might not be human, but you're truly a dog."

In a flash, Victor appeared between Onigumo and Smoker. His blade, Yuki, intercepted the Vice Admiral's punch with effortless precision. The steel didn't even tremble. Smoker collapsed to the ground, bruised and bloodied but alive.

"Who the hell are you, brat? Interrupting my lesson?" Onigumo growled, eyeing the newcomer. The ease with which Victor blocked his strike made him assume this was some seasoned officer—yet the face was unfamiliar.

"I'm the rookie who crushed the elite trainees. You seemed real bothered by that, so I figured I'd test your 'Vice Admiral' credentials myself." Victor smirked.

Onigumo's face twisted. A newbie questioning his strength? That single parry meant nothing! He was Onigumo—a ten-sword master, Rokushiki practitioner, and dual-Haki wielder!

(Unbeknownst to him, Victor would've cheerfully suggested he go "train" under Kaido if he heard those thoughts. One Thunder Bagua would humble him real quick.)

"Fine, brat. Let's see if you can back that mouth up. The elite corps didn't end with them—I graduated from it too." Onigumo's already-feral expression darkened further.

"Perfect. I wanted to measure how long it'd take to surpass Vice Admirals like you." Victor's grin didn't waver.

"ARROGANT—!"

Onigumo's hair twisted to life, splitting into eight thick strands that snaked toward his waist. Each tendril yanked a rapier free, forming a nightmarish array of blade-tipped "legs" behind him. Two more swords slid from his hips into his hands—ten blades total, a steel storm poised to shred Victor to ribbons.

The recruits gasped. Ten swords?! This was a monster straight from a nightmare. Even those who resented Onigumo now feared for Victor.

"Rebecca... Victor will be okay, right?" Tashigi whispered, shaken.

"Of course!" Rebecca giggled. "Victor's fast. That spider won't land a single hit!"

Victor drew his second blade, Chikara.

Two swords versus ten. Numbers didn't faze him—but Onigumo's Armament Haki was the wild card.

No more words. Victor vanished.

A flicker at Onigumo's flank—then gone again. Only Yamakaji and Strawberry caught the afterimage.

Onigumo's eyes darted left just as two severed rapiers and a clump of hair thudded behind him.

Silence.

The Vice Admirals stared. Onigumo gaped at his fallen blades.

Victor could've disarmed him entirely—but caution held him back. Ten blades meant ten chances to get cut, and testing Armament Haki's limits wasn't worth the risk.

The recruits erupted.

"So much for being 'elite'! Can't even block one strike?!"

"Damn, Victor's faster now? How do we catch up?!"

"Told you he'd wreck that—"

Victor ignored the cheers. Onigumo had underestimated him. But if those hair-blades could be Haki-coated... this fight just got complicated.

(Strategic retreats might be in order.)
