Chapter 101: The Evil Infant
As Xiao Lingxi continued to chant, each word resounded in the sea of his soul like the world-shaking peals of a heavenly bell. They also unlocked a boundless essence, echoing from a distant era...
One will to sainthood, another will to fall; all desires are nothingness. Wrath is sin, envy is sin, lust is sin, greed is sin, sloth is sin... the end of all that lives, the origin of all creation.
Yun Wuji's eyes stared blankly as the world in his vision grew dimmer and dimmer, fading away until it disappeared entirely. His sight went completely white before dissolving into a boundless darkness...
Only Xiao Lingxi's words continued to resonate in his mind, echoing like the peals of a vast, ancient bell.
As his heart and soul sank into the realm of enlightenment, a world of nothingness appeared before his eyes.
This world was an endless sea of darkness. No, an undeniable feeling, arising from nowhere, told him that this was not darkness but rather a completely empty "void." There were no living beings, no dead beings, no sound, and not even time or space.
He could sense nothing else's existence. In fact, he couldn't even feel his own.
...
When Yun Wuji's eyes regained focus, he saw Xiao Lingxi looking at him with a pleased expression. "Master! You're finally awake," she exclaimed happily.
'Why does this feel so familiar?' Yun Wuji thought, staring blankly at her. A meme from his past life popped into his mind. 'Well, at least I'm not in a wooden carriage.'
"Master, Master, are you alright?" Seeing his lack of reaction, Xiao Lingxi grew anxious and called out to him repeatedly.
"Yeah, I was just thinking about something." Yun Wuji shook his head, casting aside the stray thoughts, and asked, "How much time has passed?"
He was still in the garden, standing in the same spot. Gazing up at the sky. It was already getting dark. He pulled up a chair and sat down.
"Four hours… Earlier, you gave us quite a scare. I was reading the text, and suddenly, you stopped responding and stared blankly into space," Xiao Lingxi said as she sat down next to him. "Sister Qingyue and I were worried, but then Big Sis Yuechan told us not to fret, saying you'd entered a state of enlightenment."
"Right, that was indeed true," Yun Wuji nodded, his gaze softening. "I comprehended something important after hearing your translation." He looked at her with gratitude. "I owe you thanks, it was of great help to me."
"Really? I helped Master?" Xiao Lingxi beamed with happiness. Then, with a mischievous smile, she added, "Since I helped Master, can you give me a reward?"
"Sure," Yun Wuji said, in a good mood and readily agreeing. But just as the words left his mouth, he suddenly thought of something. With a tired expression, he added, "Let me guess... you also want that technique, don't you?"
"Hehe, as expected, Master's deduction abilities are almost frightening. You guessed it before I even spoke," Xiao Lingxi chuckled, pulling his hand playfully. "Master is the greatest and the best. You're going to give it to me, right? Right?"
"Your flattery skills are far inferior to Little Che's," Yun Wuji shook his head and said with a smile. "Since I already gave it to Qingyue, it wouldn't make sense not to give it to you as well."
"Thank you, Master!" Xiao Lingxi beamed with joy as she threw herself at him.
"Where is your sister Yuechan and others? Why are you the only one here?" he ignored her action and asked.
"After checking on your condition, Sister Yuechan and the others left. They said they were preparing for the marriage," Xiao Lingxi clung to him and replied.
"Alright, stop! Sit down. I'll impart the technique to you and help you refine the dragon blood," Yun Wuji sighed helplessly, then forcefully pulled her away from him.
...
After sending Xiao Lingxi off, Yun Wuji finally had some time to himself. He stood up and said, "Come out."
"Yes, master!" Suddenly, the voice of an infant echoed. Immediately after, a cluster of dense black light began to condense. Within that black light, an incredibly tiny and delicate silhouette lay. As the black light dispersed, it revealed a small girl, barely two feet tall, wrapped in black clothing. She had short black hair, black eyes, and pale white skin.
She was the spirit of the Evil Infant's Wheel of Myriad Tribulations, or more accurately, the Evil Infant itself!
"You're finally free from your seal. How does it feel to see the light again?" Yun Wuji looked at the tiny girl and asked.
"I feel super good!" The Evil Infant exclaimed excitedly as if she hadn't felt any sadness from being enslaved, so long as she could finally see the outside world.
"Good. Then you'd better be obedient, or you'll end up sealed again," Yun Wuji nodded, his tone turning serious.
"Yes! Master, I will be very obedient!" The little girl nodded her small head vigorously as she hovered around him.
Yun Wuji walked around the lake in the garden, and when he found a good spot, he began taking out his cooking items.
"Master, what are you doing?" The Evil Infant, newly freed and curious about everything, floated above his head and asked.
"Making something to eat. Food is one of the six senses of living beings; it's as important as, if not more than, the pleasure of the flesh. Sometimes, eating a delicious meal is better than having an oyakodon," Yun Wuji explained as he pulled out a piece of dragon meat and, with exquisite and swift movements, began slicing it.
'Oyakodon? What is that?' The Evil Infant tilted its head and wondered silently.
He then pulled out seasonings and sprinkled them over the meat. With a thought, a golden fire ignited, beginning to cook the meat. He controlled the flames with perfect precision, cooking the meat at exactly the rate he desired. The Golden Crow's fire was incredibly hot, it needed extreme control to be used effectively.
If the Golden Crow were to see her proud flame being used for cooking, she might regret ever choosing him as her inheritor.
As he controlled the fire, he took out fresh vegetables and began preparing them. He always stored his vegetables inside the Sky Poison Pearl, which kept them incredibly fresh.
A few minutes later, he finished cooking and placed the dishes on a table. Throughout the entire process, the Evil Infant silently hovered above him, watching closely as he worked.
Yun Wuji sat down in his chair and said, "Go ahead and eat. You probably haven't tasted anything in millions of years."
"Eating? Can I really eat too?" The Evil Infant asked timidly.
"Of course! Why else do you think I suddenly cooked all of this? Do I look like I'm that free?" Yun Wuji poked the little girl's head with his finger and chuckled.
"Hmm," the little girl nodded and sat down in a chair. However, because she was too small, she couldn't reach the table. She struggled, stretching her arms to the edge, but her short arms couldn't quite reach. Finally, with a huff, she gave up on sitting in the chair and floated up until she reached her dishes.
"Woaah! What is this? What is this?! It's so delicious! So yummy! Is this what food tastes like?" After taking a bite, the Evil Infant began to fly around like a black butterfly, shouting in surprise and astonishment. When she finally stopped, she suddenly started crying, "Waah! Waah!"
"What's wrong with you?" Yun Wuji was taken aback by the Evil Infant's cries. She had been jumping around happily, so why did she suddenly start crying like an infant?
"I... I... sniff... I've never eaten anything... sniff... ever since I came into existence... sniff... so I felt sad that I never enjoyed something like this for so long," the little girl wiped her tears while sniffing and explained.
Back in the ancient era, she was sealed shortly after coming into existence by the Four Devil Emperors because she caused too much destruction.
The Evil Infant spent most of her time sealed away by the devils, so she likely never had a chance to experience something like eating.
"..." Hearing her words, something inside Yun Wuji's heart trembled. He took a deep breath, calming himself. 'I can't let my guard down. This Evil Infant is the last boss. I need to stay on guard!'
After repeatedly warning himself, he spoke to the little girl, "As long as you stay obedient, I'll give you delicious food."
'I didn't give her a lollipop, so the FBI won't come after me, right?' he thought to himself.
"Hmm, thank you, master!" The Evil Infant wiped her tears and floated around Yun Wuji's head happily.
"Okay, stop playing around and eat. That's bad manners!" Yun Wuji told her.
"Hmm!"
...
After feeding the Evil Infant for probably the first time in her life, Yun Wuji took out a green pearl.
"Sky Poison Pearl! Unfortunately, its spirit is already dead. It won't be able to recover its power in the future," the Evil Infant exclaimed upon seeing the pearl.
"And whose fault is that?" Yun Wuji gave the Evil Infant a fleeting glance. Back when the Evil Infant was freed from its seal, she had kidnapped the body of the Moon Slaughter Devil Sovereign and also stolen the Sky Poison Pearl to unleash the Myriad Tribulation Poison which killed all the gods and devil races. During this process, the original spirit of the pearl perished.
"This... this... I'm sorry, master," sensing his displeasure, the little girl fearfully apologized and begged, "Please don't stop making me food!"
"...Who said I would stop?" Yun Wuji was speechless, he held the pearl and asked, "Can you control two heavenly treasures at the same time?"
He Ling was a Wood Spirit Race who later became the Sky Poison Pearl's spirit. Despite being obviously weaker than the Evil Infant, she was still able to control both the Sky Poison Pearl and the Eternal Heaven Pearl.
So logically speaking, the Evil Infant should have an easier time controlling both treasures, especially since both the Sky Poison Pearl and the Eternal Heaven Pearl are birthed from Yin energy.
After all, the Evil Infant's Wheel of Myriad Tribulations is the counterpart of the Heaven Punishing Ancestral Sword, while the Sky Poison Pearl is the counterpart of the Primordial Seal of Life & Death.
"Yes! I can control it, master," the little girl nodded her head vigorously, eager to prove that she wasn't useless, hoping Yun Wuji wouldn't stop giving her food in the future.
In fact, she could control the Sky Poison Pearl much easier than any other Heavenly treasure, since she had already done so a million years ago. Back then, she forcefully controlled the Sky Poison Pearl even when it still had its spirit. Now, with the spirit gone, it was far easier for her to do it again.
"Alright, then go ahead and do it," Yun Wuji placed the Sky Poison Pearl between her tiny hands and gave the command.
"Hmm!"
