Attack On Titan: Goodbyes

Chapter 42: Lullaby

Alright so I'd like to take this moment to announce I just launched a new fan fiction Attack On Titan: Regrets. It's 1 chapter long only, about 8000 words long and it's what I can say cannon. What I feel like might've happened between them when Eren showed her what could've happened if they were together or her response was something else. I consider it cannon so you should too, yeah you should. Anyhow go read it and make sure you write reviews and comments and tell me how was it.

The night in their little cottage was peaceful—at least, it was supposed to be. Outside, the wind whispered through the trees, the stars blinked softly in the sky, and the faint chirping of crickets filled the air. Inside, however, a storm was brewing.

Eren was fast asleep, his arm draped over Mikasa's growing belly, his face buried in her shoulder. The warmth of her body and the steady rhythm of her breathing lulled him into deep, undisturbed rest—until he felt a poke on his cheek.

Another poke. Then another.

Groggily, he cracked one eye open, only to be met with Mikasa's intense gaze. He sighed, already sensing trouble.

"What?" His voice was hoarse from sleep.

"I'm hungry," she whispered.

Eren blinked slowly. "Then eat something."

"I want pickles dipped in honey with a side of grilled fish," she said without hesitation.

Eren stared at her, hoping she was joking. She wasn't.

"…Pickles with honey?"

Mikasa nodded seriously. "And grilled fish."

Eren groaned moving closer, his head resting on her collar bone, he could feel her breaths against his hair, his hand rolling up to her face pinching her cheek, debating whether he should argue or just get up and deal with it.

Then she hit him with the look—the one she had perfected ever since her pregnancy started. It was a silent yet deadly combination of a glare and a pout, laced with unspoken threats of suffering if he dared to refuse yet had a mix of cuteness and fondness that he couldn't ignore either.

He sighed and sat up. "Fine. Fine."

Mikasa smirked victoriously, snuggling back into the blankets.

Eren swung his legs off the bed, rubbing his face before trudging toward the kitchen. His eyes momentarily shifted at the small bundle laying in the cradle wriggling it's arms and legs. He smiled at her for a second. "Kay then my beautiful monkey, wanna help Papa out." And she giggled.

"I'll take that as a yes..."

The two made their way to the kitchen, careful not to wake Mikasa any further. The kitchen was dimly lit by the moon filtering through the window, casting a gentle glow over the wooden shelves and counters.

"Alright, Erika. Mama want pickles and honey with grilled fish."

Eren found a jar of pickles and some honey, before enthusiastically digging through their pantry for fish.

"I know it's fish, Erika..."

He tickled the little girl.

"But we have to girll it first..."

And Erika gave him a confused look.

"Because if I give your mom a raw fish, she'll kill me."

She giggled, kicking her legs making him narrow his eyes,"You really want Papa dead, huh?" He talked to her keeping himself entertained, while preparing the fish. Once it was sizzling on the stove, he turned to deal with the horrific combination of pickles and honey. He hesitated before drizzling the golden liquid over the green spears, shuddering at the sight.

"I know that looks gross, cutie."

He sighed, setting the plate aside. "But if it makes Mama happy, we don't question it." Eren poked Erika's cheeks.

A few minutes later, the fish was perfectly grilled, and the monstrosity of a pickle dish was ready. With Eren balancing a small plate in his hand while Erika slept in the other, he made his way back to bedroom.

Mikasa sat up the moment they entered, her eyes locking onto the plate like a hawk spotting its prey. She took the dish from Eren, humming in approval.

"Thank you," she murmured before taking a bite.

Eren watched in silent horror as she ate the pickles and honey like it was the best thing in the world, placing Erika back in her small house.

"…You actually like that?" Eren asked, appalled.

Mikasa nodded, completely unbothered. "It's good."

Mikasa chuckled as she took another bite, her expression smug as Eren sat beside her, she casually leaned against him. "Here," she said, holding up a piece of her strange, honey-soaked snack near his mouth.

Eren grimaced, placing his head on her shoulder. "Hell no. Just hurry up and eat it so we can sleep."

She pouted, stuffing the piece into her own mouth slickly before leaning in close,"Kiss?" She looked at him with big eyes and he pressed his lips against her, she deepened the kiss just as he smiled against her mouth—only to feel something sticky and far too sweet slip past his lips.

His brows furrowed instantly as he pulled back, coughing slightly. "Ugh—Mikasa!" He wiped at his mouth while she giggled, watching his dramatic reaction with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes.

"What? I'm just sharing."

"Sharing?" he muttered, swallowing reluctantly. "I feel betrayed."

Mikasa hummed in satisfaction, clearly unbothered by his suffering as she happily continued her bizarre midnight meal. Eren sighed, but his eyes softened as he watched her.

She looked so at peace—so content despite the exhaustion weighing on her body. He reached forward, gently pulling her leg onto his lap, giving himself an excuse to touch her. His hands found their way to her swollen feet, and he began kneading slow, deliberate circles into the arch of her foot.

A soft moan of relief left her lips, her shoulders finally relaxing as she melted into his touch. She stretched lazily, her hand reaching up to cup his cheek, rubbing her thumb against his skin. "I'm such a lucky woman, aren't I?"

He just stared at her, taking in the subtle changes in her face. She looked different now—more mature, softer, but just as stunning as ever. He didn't need to say it out loud, but she could feel it in the way he held her.

Just as she finished eating he placed the plate at the table before finding his way back to the bed where she sat. Her voice lowered. "Ne, Eren… What was the most beautiful day of your life?"

He blinked, caught off guard by the sudden question. He thought for a moment, then smiled, his hands sliding from her feet to her arms, massaging them with the same gentle care. "There are a lot…" he admitted. "But if I had to choose…" He leaned in closer, pressing a kiss at her forehead. "The day Erika was born."

Mikasa turned red at his words, a small smile breaking across her lips.

She scooted even closer, settling herself fully into his lap as she let out a soft breath, arms snugly wrapped around his neck. Eyes never leaving his.

"And you?" Eren asked.

Mikasa's fingers idly traced the lines of his neck as she murmured, "The day we got married."

Eren's breath hitched at her words. He swallowed, his grip on her tightening as she pressed a lingering kiss against his soft skin. He shivered slightly at the warmth of her lips, but before he could say anything, she smirked—and in a sudden, playful movement, she pushed him down onto the mattress.

Eren let out a surprised grunt, his back hitting the sheets. Before they were just looking at each other. His hand slowly reached out to her belly, a lot swollen to this point. "Mika—"

"Yeah…" she mused, settling above him, her hands resting on his chest. "Seeing you grow from a hot and attractive teenage girl to a mom with messy hair, stretch marks, and yesterday's clothes on—but still thinking you're the most beautiful person on the entire planet—is just the most breathtaking experience of my entire life."

Her eyes widened slightly as his words sank in. Her lips parted, but no words came out. His hands instinctively reached for her waist, holding her in place.

But then, her eyes started to shine as tears welled up. Then, before he could even process it, warm droplets fell onto his face.

"Mikasa… I just love you so, so much. " he whispered, his voice laced with his emotions.

She didn't let him speak further. Instead, she leaned down, placing delicate kisses on his cheeks, his forehead—gentle and reverent, like she was trying to memorize him through touch alone.

Eren exhaled, his arms wrapping around her, pulling her down so that she was lying fully against him. She didn't resist. She simply curled into his warmth, her tears drying as she buried herself into his embrace.

But suddenly, she pulled away, and Eren blinked in confusion, his brows furrowing.

"This is all your fault, Yeager… So don't blame me for what's about to happen."

Eren's stomach dropped. "…What?"

Mikasa stretched her arms, cracking her knuckles with deliberate menace. "You just had to say all those sweet things, didn't you? Looking all cute and innocent like that… How am I supposed to control myself now?"

Eren's heart pounded. "Mikasa, what the hell are you—"

"Oil up."

"I-IYEEEEAAAAHHHH—!!"
