Attack On Titan: Hope

Chapter 39: Eren's Rage

Armin's POV

"MIKASA!!!" My voice tore through the rain-soaked air, shaking the very ground beneath me. The heavy drum of the downpour was deafening, but the cold that gripped me wasn't from the storm—it was the void left in my heart. My knees buckled as the weight of the moment slammed into me, but I couldn't tear my eyes away.

"The Armored… Did it just—?" Jean's voice faltered, disbelief choking the words from him. His question hung in the air, unanswered, as the world around us seemed to stand still.

My gaze snapped back to the street where Eren was standing with Mikasa just a moment ago. But where… where was Eren?

Panic surged through me as I searched frantically, eyes darting from the destruction to the stillness, until—

There he was.

Standing in front of the Titan's mouth.

Teeth clenched, eyes darkened with a rage I could almost feel in my bones. His hands… what was happening to his hands? Crimson flames wrapped around them like a storm, burning with a fury that shook the very earth as he parted Reiner's jaws with two damn hands. Before clutching his blade which spun with an unnatural speed, slicing through plates, armor, and the very teeth of the Titan's jaw.

"Eren…" The word escaped me in a whisper, an echo of disbelief. The sight was unreal, as if he were fighting not just the Titan, but the very forces of nature itself. His form vanished as he jumped headlong into the beast's insides, disappearing from sight.

I blinked, my heart thundering in my chest.

Then, my eyes turned to the blonde girl in Ymir's arms. Tears streamed down her face, her body trembling as she screamed Eren's name—her voice a raw, desperate plea. The sound shattered my soul, and I couldn't help but feel the weight of her loss, the same fear clawing at my heart.

The Armored Titan rose to its feet, steam pouring from the gashes in its body. Even wounded, it was still a force to be reckoned with. The sight of it, standing tall despite the carnage, made my stomach twist in terror.

But it was then that I heard her voice.

"How dare you!"

Annie's words cut through the storm, filled with a rage that was like nothing I'd ever heard from her. Her hooks shot forward, her body propelling herself towards the Titan, fury in her eyes.

I was lost. I couldn't move, couldn't even breathe as the world around me seemed to close in. The storm raged, but nothing could drown the sounds of the pain, the loss, and the fury that echoed through the battlefield.

I was choking on my own words, my throat parched as if every breath I took was made of glass. What was happening in this world? The chaos was too much for me to comprehend.

All I could make sense of was a Titan with glowing green eyes—its form materializing out of thin air behind us. It slaughtered its own kind with a weapon I couldn't understand, before crumpling to the ground in a heap. And then—then two figures shot out of its body. One was Eren, but the other... could it have been that thing?

My vision blurred, teary eyes wide in disbelief, as I tried to make sense of the impossible. Suddenly, the Armored Titan froze, just as Annie was about to reach its nape. What was happening? The Titan began to move erratically, its massive hands gripping its sides as if in pain, like it was being torn apart from the inside.

Before I could even lift myself from the ground, the Armored Titan's plating—its hard, impenetrable shell—began to loosen, falling away in heavy clunks, revealing something... something far worse.

"What the—" My voice faltered as I struggled to keep up with the madness.

And then it happened.

"AHHHHHH!!!"

The roar ripped through the air like thunder, vibrating in my bones. A crimson trail of lightning wrapped around the Armored Titan's form, and in an instant a massive arm lunged forward, piercing right through the nape, everything I knew shattered. Annie's hooks retracted furthur backwards, her eyes locked on the Titan in a mix of disbelief and fear.

The entire Titan began to explode before our eyes—its head, its limbs, its body—all of it was torn away in a blur of raw energy. The green-eyed Titan emerged from within, its towering form bringing a cold, paralyzing dread that seeped deep into my soul.

Its massive hand… clutching something—no, someone. My breath hitched as a sudden rush of steam erupted from the Titan's nape, and the sight that followed paralyzed me. My body moved before my mind could catch up, my legs carrying me forward in a frantic, stumbling rush.

My vision blurred with tears that refused to stop, distorting the world around me. My knees buckled as I reached the Titan's nape, my hands trembling as I struggled to focus. And then—I saw them.

Eren was there, holding Mikasa in his arms.

She was breathing. Unconscious, but alive. Relief crashed over me so intensely that I nearly collapsed then and there. Eren's thumb traced gentle circles on her cheek, his touch softer than I had ever seen it. His expression unreadable, he lowered himself and planted a kiss to her forehead. Then, without a word, he slowly rose, lifting her into his arms.

His gaze flickered to me for the briefest moment.

And that was when I saw it.

Dark, jagged marks ran beneath his eyes, like ink bleeding into his skin. My mind struggled to comprehend it, to process what was right in front of me, but every instinct screamed that something had changed. Something irreversible.

I swallowed hard, forcing my gaze to shift—to the Titan's fist.

And that sight was even worse.

"Reiner…?"

The word barely left my lips as my stomach twisted into knots. What was he doing there? Clutched within the Titan's grasp—limbless, bloodied, barely breathing. His golden hair was matted with crimson, and beneath his eyes, the same unnatural marks Eren bore were etched into his skin.

My breath came in shallow gasps. I couldn't think, I couldn't understand—

"Arlert," Eren's voice cut through the chaos, calm yet edged with something sharp. "Take him."

I didn't move.

I couldn't.

My body refused to function as my mind spiraled into denial. What… what was happening?

Eren's gaze turned colder, like ice gripping my spine. "Arlert," he repeated, voice now void of patience. "Do you want him to transform again?"

Transform.

The word slammed into me like a hammer.

So it was Reiner. Reiner all along.

No—no, it can't be. My brain knew the truth, but my heart refused to accept it.

And if Reiner was a Titan…

Then Eren…

My stomach twisted violently. No. No, no, no—this can't be happening.

My fingers curled into my palms, nails digging into my skin as if pain would anchor me back to reality. But the truth was already suffocating me, inescapable and cruel.

Eren and Reiner.

Both of them.

Could transform into man eating beasts?
