Chapter 123: Preparing For The Entrance Exams

Knox was bemused by the beautiful woman's words, a bit of interest surging inside him. "You can tell? That lower lifeform lowered my expectations of this Sect, but you instantly raised them. And am I correct in making the assumption that you'll be the Examiner for my Trial?"

The beautiful woman shook her head. "I'm not capable enough for such a position. And though you're already as strong as most Outer Disciples, you're trying to enter the Sect without substantial backing or status. This means you'll need to prove that you're far better than the average fool who gets in entirely through connections."

She briefly glanced at the mocking man in her group.

The man felt many grievances boiling over and wanted so badly to take them out on the indifferent man who believed himself worthy of the Supreme Sect. However, given the present circumstances, he knew his hands were tied.

"Ignore him," said Bi Lu, the beautiful woman. "The blind frog can't see from the bottom of the well. But you're a frog who wishes to escape the well, aren't you?"

Knox smiled mysteriously. "Who can say for sure, but glimpsing the true vastness of the limitless skies above does sound entertaining if nothing else."

Bi Lu showed a lovely expression, one that she rarely put on display. "I think you'll fit in just fine here, Knox Falazar, but you still have to take the Entrance Exam."

"I figured as much," Knox shrugged.

Lily, who was standing beside him, revealed an adorable pout as she snuggled herself closer to him. A fierce expression formed as she stared daggers at the powerful Half-step Origin Infant Realm woman.

"Hmm?" It was only now that Bi Lu noticed her presence. "Are you planning to have her participate as well, Sir Knox?"

Knox shook his head, patting Lily's head. "She's too young and not capable enough. But I hear that as long as I score high on the Entrance Exam, I can bring in an assistant. Is that true?"

"Such arrogance!" shouted the irritated man from before. "To actually believe that you stand a chance of getting into the Top 10 and acquiring exclusive privileges is the epitome of stupidity—"

"Shut up, Fan Ling," Bi Lu silenced him with a deathly stare before returning her focus to the otherworldly handsome man on the Spirit Ship. "I must warn you beforehand that to get into the Top 10, you'll be competing with some of the very best among the Body Integration Realm talents. Some will be from large families, or they simply had no choice but to take this test before moving on to the Inner Disciple one. Either way, getting into the Top 10 without a background will be…"

"It's okay," said Knox. "And even if I don't make the cut, I'd still like to give it a try, if that's okay."

"...Yes, that's fine," replied Bi Lu, a little disappointed by the overconfidence of the handsome lad. "Well then, I'll be escorting you to where you'll be staying until the Exams start in a few days. You can feel free to bring your companion along, but you'll be sharing a… room."

Knox glanced down at the blushing beauty beside him.

"Are these arrangements okay for you?" he whispered to Lily, to which steam rose out of her ears as she meekly nodded.

"Alright then," Knox said to Bi Lu. "That works."

Bi Lu looked between the two of them, raising a brow. However, she brought the matter up no more and proceeded to guide the Spirit Ship toward a docking station located on a small floating island. The island was chained to the mainland where the Main Supreme Sect was situated, and there were many such floating islands scattered all around the Main Sect Grounds.

Typically, they were used for sparring between Outer Disciples. But on days like today, when the Sect Entrance Exams were approaching, they'd be used to hold the entrance exam participants.

"That one-story log cabin atop the hill over there will serve as your temporary residence. You can feel free to have a look around the island if you'd like, just don't go causing any trouble that could potentially get you disqualified from the Entrance Exams."

While listening to Bi Lu's brief rundown of the do's and don'ts, Knox leapt off the Spirit Ship. The moment he made contact with the soft ground, he turned around and extended his hand for Lily.

She giggled happily as she took his hand and jumped off the Spirit Ship's deck as well.

"Thank you plenty for your assistance, Sister Bi Lu," Knox said with a respectful hand bow. "But seeing as the journey here has been quite tiring, I hope that you'll forgive us for going to rest."

"No, that is quite alright," replied Bi Lu. "But do remember that the Entrance Exams will begin at 6 a.m. sharp exactly seven days from now. If you're late, you'll have to wait an unknown number of years for the next Exams."

"Appreciate the heads-up," Knox said smilingly before spinning on his heel and walking in the direction of the log cabin on the second closest hill.

"That little bastard is so damn contemptuous!" The hot headed youth from before felt his blood pressure rise exponentially. "To be that way with such meager strength! Gah!"

Bi Lu snapped at him for the tenth time, commanding him to speak no more on the subject.

"How many times do I have to keep telling you that he's far stronger than he appears?? You're lucky that he's laid-back about everything, else even I may not have been able to save you in time!"

"Is… is he really that powerful…?" Fan Ling gulped. "But he looked so weak and cowardly. And the entire time, I was thinking about how someone like that managed to pull a jade beauty like the one he kept by his side. I could sense faint traces of the Nine-tailed Fox Bloodline in her as well, which makes me wonder how beautiful she becomes after transforming—"

*Whack!*

"Unless you want an early grave, you best perish that thought from your mind right away," Bi Lu reprimanded while smacking him a few good times. "That man may appear listless and unconcerned, but there's a deep sea of blood following behind his every movement. Killing you might not even make it into his first one million kills list!"

That many!?

Just what sort of monster was this Knox Falazar!?

— Within the Cabin designated to Knox and Lily by the Supreme Sect —

"Rayzer, are you still there?" asked Knox after settling down on his bed. "Don't even think about hiding from me either."

FWIP!

A figure materialized from within his Storage Sack. The figure was dressed like a homeless person, but still had a rich noble air around him that contrasted greatly with the scared expression he was making.

"W-What is it that you require of me, my wonderful Master…?" Rayzer asked nervously, praying to all the gods above that it was no more of that torture training meant to 'whip him into shape.'

Knox rolled his eyes before opening the door to his room with his telekinesis. "Stop being such a big baby and go cook us something. Also, if Lily asks, then tell her that I had you cook because I don't want her overworked. If you make her cry, I'll kill you, kay?"

"K-Kay, Master…" Rayzer lowered his head, far too afraid to meet his Master's terrifying 'friendly smiling' look. "Th-This task of mine will be completed without fail!"

"Good, then get going," said Knox as his Lesser Dragon King Bloodline calmed down. "I'll be continuing my secluded cultivation in here, so close the door on your way out. Don't disturb me unless absolutely necessary, and make sure that Lily gets all the snacks and sweets she wants."

"Understood, Master!"

With that, Rayzer hurried out of the room, ensuring that he shut the door as quietly as possible so as to not further agitate his Master.

After he was gone, Knox closed his eyes and cupped his hands in a meditative position.

'The 6th Layer of the Soul Formation Realm is not too far away,' he thought. 'I should be able to break through before the start of the Entrance Exams. And with my Level 6 Sword Aura thrown into the mix, I doubt any of the competitors will be much competition.'

For Sword Intent, after reaching Level 9, one could attempt to refine and solidify their comprehension of the sword. From this act, a Sword Aura could be formed, which would boost combat power by leaps and bounds.

Over the last dozens of years, Knox had been grinding away at improving his cultivation. Furthermore, he had been trying to achieve Sky 2 of his Outer God Physique as well as advance his Sword Intent. It was precisely because of these efforts that his Level 7 Sword Intent skyrocketed to a Level 6 Sword Aura—only a little away from jumping to Level 7!

"The grind is everlasting. A phrase of the scriptures," said Knox as he let time pass never-endingly.
