«Okay, I already regret it», I said, standing in line to get into the participation tournament, «And a lot.»
«Come on», Azula said cheerfully, eagerly filling in the blanks on the form, «It'll be fun.»
«I feel more sorry for the participants», I shrugged, glancing at the entries. The Monster Team? Well, we are. But the poor guy who got scared by Azula, not so much. «What's your name, anyway?» I asked the guy.
«Chris», he said in a huff.
«Do you even know water magic?» I asked, not really expecting a positive answer.
«No. I don't do magic at all», he said huffily. That's actually great. This could be fun. Heh.
«You'll be the first Mage Tournament champion who doesn't use magic», I muttered to him with a smile. Yeah, it'll definitely be fun. But as soon as we win, let's get the hell out of this town.
After checking that she had written everything Korrectly, Azula walked over to the window and handed over the form. One minute, and we have a piece of paper with permission to enter and the standings for the month. As it turned out, there wasn't just one. There were five. One general and four for the week, and if you believe her, we have sixteen fights this month. Oh, I feel sorry for the boys.
I don't care about the money. I haven't cared about the money in a long time. But I got a shitload of it. Nowhere to put it. So, without inventing anything, we rented a hotel room over the arena. And we paid for the whole year in advance. For a suite. Anyway, that's how long the tournament lasts.
First there's the qualifiers. That's a whole month. Thirty-two of the best teams are chosen. And all the while, the arena is not idle. It's a month of meat. That's what I call it.
Then, for six months, the teams fight each other. Getting points somehow. I didn't get into that. But the top sixteen go on to the next round. And then, for one month, there's the usual elimination table. And that's basically it. Then it's honors for the finalist, money, and preparation for next year's competition. It's bullshit, basically.
The first fight is in a week. That's when the fun starts. In the meantime, we decided to take a little walk around town. All Azula is interested in. I didn't really want to go. But knowing her, we're sure to find trouble.
