Chapter 164: Exam I
For nearly two weeks, Daniel took both of them to the Awakened Association every day for training.
Even though at first, they both complained and wanted to spend most of their time being lazy, how could Daniel allow that?
Luckily, they slowly got used to it and even started enjoying the training. Daniel kept a close eye on them and their practice the whole time to make sure they weren't slacking off.
"Anyway, how confident are you about getting first place now?" he then asked.
"Huh? Honestly, pretty confident. I doubt anyone besides Tiana could be a real rival," Alice said proudly.
Even though she really hated the training at first, she now understood its value. Thanks to that training, she was almost certain she could get first place.
"Same here. I don't think even the academy's current top two students can beat us anymore," Tiana replied cheerfully.
Daniel nodded.
Time passed, and all of the girls' exams except the last one were completed successfully. Today was the day of their final test.
"Brother, are you coming with us today?" Alice asked while taking a bite of her breakfast.
"Should I? Are they even allowing it?"
"For the final exam, family members are allowed to come too. Mom agreed and of course she's coming. Can you come too?" she asked with puppy eyes.
"Sure, I don't really have anything else to do anyway," Daniel nodded and agreed.
After finishing breakfast, the four of them got in the car and headed to the academy.
"This car's way too small for four people. When we move to the capital, we have to get a new one," Alice grumbled.
"It's fine. After we buy the house, we'll think about the car," Liana nodded.
She didn't like spending extra money, but she had to admit this car was really cramped for four people.
Daniel didn't say anything, but it was obvious he agreed with his sister. Even though he hadn't been sure before, now he was certain—after obtaining the Death Body in the Pagoda, he had definitely gotten taller.
Actually, not just taller. Physically overall, he had grown bigger, which made sitting in this car a bit uncomfortable.
Before long, they arrived at the academy, parked the car, and went inside.
"So where do we go now?" Daniel turned to the girls and asked.
"Well, the final exam takes place in a separate zone, so we're not exactly sure either," Tiana replied.
"So what do we do now?" Liana glanced at them and asked.
"Hold on, I'll ask someone real quick and be right back," Alice said, then walked over to a couple of guards.
It looked like the guards recognized her and were treating her with great respect.
A few seconds later, she came back.
"Alright, looks like we need to go into the academy and use the portals set up there to get to the test zone."
Daniel and Liana nodded and followed behind Tiana and Alice. Soon enough, they found the portals and stepped through.
The space around them instantly shifted, and Daniel and his mother found themselves in the spectator stands.
"So where are those two?" he asked. Strangely, the girls weren't with them.
"They're the ones taking the exam, so they were probably teleported to a different spot. No need to worry, Mom," Daniel said with a smile.
Then he seemed to realize something and looked at his hand. Strangely, there was a number on it.
As if understanding something, he looked at the seats and saw that there were numbers on them too.
"These must be our seat numbers," he pointed to the numbers on his hand and said to his mother.
"So let's find our seats."
Based on the numbers on their hands, they found out they were in the front row—actually, they were in the VIP section.
"Could this be a mistake?" Liana frowned.
How could they have gotten VIP seats? She couldn't believe it.
As far as he knew, the VIP seats were only for the wealthy and well-known figures of the city. More importantly, these weren't just regular VIP seats—
These were front-row VIP seats! Even the academy's instructors were only allowed to sit in the second-row VIP seats.
What the hell was going on here?
"There's no mistake, Mom. I think I know why," Daniel smiled. He was sure it was because of the academy director.
Even though his mom still had some doubts, she eventually sat down. He also sat down and looked at the exam zone.
In front and below their seats was a large forest-like area, though it was completely enclosed by a transparent dome.
A giant monitor was hanging up in front of them, showing the situation inside the exam zone. Several smaller monitors were beside it as well.
After taking a look at the monitors and the exam area, Daniel turned to look around the spectator stands.
A good number of spectators had shown up. It wasn't like tens of thousands, but still a decent crowd.
Especially since Daniel noticed that even if you were not a student's parent, you still could buy a ticket to be able to watch.
And this exam was only for first-years—second and third-years had different exam formats.
After that, he closed his eyes to give his mind a bit of rest. The stands weren't full yet, so it was clear the exam wouldn't start for a little while.
After dozens of minutes, the head of the academy suddenly appeared above the exam zone in his usual outfit.
Sensing the powerful aura, Daniel opened his eyes and looked at the academy head.
"To all the dear spectators who came here to watch—greetings."
"I am the head of the Awakened Academy of the city of Santcis. I'm sure most of you are already familiar with me," the voice of Philip echoed clearly throughout the area.
But he wasn't using a mic or anything like that. On the contrary, he was just speaking normally, yet the volume was loud enough to cover the whole place.
"This is the eighth year we've held a special exam for our first-years… but this year, for a number of reasons, we've decided to change the rewards a bit compared to previous years."
