Chapter 166: Exam III
After they decided to attack, Alice, without hesitation, drew her sword and lunged at them.
With her first surprise strike, she managed to bring two of them to their knees instantly.
"What? Who attacked us?!"
"Alice? Damn it, what is she doing here?!"
"We don't stand a chance against her—run!"
The students, seeing the one who had suddenly attacked, immediately turned and fled.
What a joke. Alice was one of the top first-year students. If they stayed and tried to fight, they'd be defeated without even a sliver of hope.
"Unfortunately, I can't let you go." Suddenly, those who were running heard a voice in front of them.
"L-Livana? You—what?!" Their eyes widened when they saw the purple-haired girl blocking their path.
But before they could say anything, Livana charged at them with her fists. With no other option left, the two students clenched their teeth and engaged her.
Fists started flying, but the difference in power was obvious—those two didn't stand a chance against her.
After a few exchanges, Livana knocked both of them out and took their flag.
As she picked up the flag, the number on her hand changed from 0 to 1. Then, a light appeared, and both of the students vanished from the field.
"So the moment you lose your flag, you're officially eliminated," she mumbled to herself. Then her gaze shifted to Alice.
Alice had completely overpowered two more students with her sword strikes. It was a one-sided beatdown. They had no chance.
'She's gotten stronger,' Livana frowned. She was already familiar with Alice's strength. She had seen it in one of the exams held two weeks ago.
And clearly, her power had skyrocketed since then.
After finishing off her two opponents, Alice took their flag as well. She noticed the number on her hand change from 0 to 1.
"Well, shall we keep going?" she said, turning to Livana.
Livana nodded. There was no point wasting time, so they continued.
On their way, they encountered several other students, but none of them stood a chance. They quickly defeated most of them and kept increasing their flag count.
Alice had never expected the exam to be this boring. None of the other students could even pose a slight challenge. Most of them were knocked out in two or three hits.
'I hope Tiana and those two top-ranked first-years can give me a real fight,' she laughed inwardly.
After the intense training she'd gone through over the past two weeks, she doubted anyone could defeat her anymore.
The first place in this exam was hers—without a doubt. Without another thought, she dashed toward two students standing in front of her.
Meanwhile, outside the exam field, in the spectator area, the audience watching the match on the monitors was stunned.
"Who's that white-haired girl?! My god, she's a monster."
"Just the white-haired one? Look at the one with purple hair! She's a monster too!"
"They must be Alice and Livana. They're both among the best first-year students."
"Why the hell are two monsters even teamed up? That's basically cheating. I doubt anyone can beat them."
"I wouldn't be so sure. Look at that other team. That girl should be Tiana, and her teammate is Kaidron. If I'm not wrong, he's ranked second among the first-years."
"These idiots. Obviously, my girls are the best," Liana said mockingly as she glanced at the whispering spectators and then added excitedly.
This was one of the first times she'd seen Alice in action, and she had to admit—she was genuinely proud of her daughter.
Of course, she was proud of Tiana too and was cheering for both of them.
"Daniel, do you think Alice will win?"
She turned to her son and asked.
"Probably, yeah," Daniel replied lazily.
"Why 'probably'?"
"Alice is strong, and if she had teamed up with Tiana, they would've definitely won. But that didn't happen. Tiana's teammate is also super strong, and besides that, there's one more team that's really powerful." he answered.
"Oh? I see. Well, as long as Tiana wins, I'm happy. She's like a daughter to me too," Liana said with a sweet smile.
Then both of them turned their attention back to the exam.
"This is our eighth flag. Do you think we're in first place?"
Back inside the field, Alice glanced at Livana and asked.
She had just taken a flag from a knocked-out student when the two opponents vanished.
"Most likely, yeah." Livana nodded. Altogether, they had 16 flags.
She was certain their group was ranked either first or second—no way it was anything lower than that. Then, with a cold light flickering in her eyes, she looked at Alice.
Alice currently had 8 flags. As long as she could keep them, there was no doubt she'd come out as the top student in the exam.
'But it's too soon. I'll wait until we take down the stronger teams before making my move.'
'Though her power is a bit concerning… but I should still be able to beat her.'
"I doubt anyone besides the top three has any chance of defeating us," Alice said, her eyes burning with a competitive fire. She couldn't wait to face some real opponents.
They set off again, walking for nearly an hour, but didn't see any other participants.
It was clear that the number of students had dropped significantly. Probably only the real contenders were left—and they weren't showing themselves easily.
"I didn't think it'd take this long for us to run into each other again,"
Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind them.
Alice instantly recognized it and smiled as she heard it.
"Honestly, it sucks that we didn't end up on the same team," she said as the figure of Tiana slowly came into view.
"Haha, I really wanted to team up too," Tiana sighed, then glanced at her friend's current partner.
"Livana? Wow, didn't expect you two to team up."
"Wasn't my idea either. Didn't expect it."
"Where's your teammate?" Livana asked, getting tired of their chatter.
"My teammate? Right here." Tiana smiled.
"What do you mea—?"
Before Livana could finish her sentence, she realized the blade of a sword was suddenly at her throat—and Alice's too.
Where had that come from?
