Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Whispers in the Dark

The quiet hum of the dojo filled the air as night fell. John had excused himself to "go to bed," but Elena knew better. After years of observing her son, she'd learned his patterns and habits. When the lights went out, John didn't sleep—at least, not in the traditional sense. Instead, he ventured into a different kind of world.

Rumi sat with Elena in the cozy common area of the dojo, sipping on a cup of tea. The two cousins were catching up after years apart. Rumi, though strong-willed and fearless, couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and concern about John's unique nature.

"That kid of yours is something else," Rumi said with a smirk, breaking the silence. "Those transformations of his? Creepy, powerful, and... well, let's just say I've seen a lot of quirks, but nothing like that."

Elena chuckled softly, her hands wrapped around her cup. "Yeah, he's definitely unique. But it's not just his quirk that's impressive. John has a mind of his own, and sometimes I think it's sharper than anyone else's I've ever met."

Rumi leaned back, her curiosity getting the better of her. "What do you mean? Kid's eleven—what kind of mastermind moves could he possibly be pulling?"

Elena hesitated for a moment, then smiled knowingly. "You're wondering why I didn't let you check on him earlier, aren't you?"

Rumi nodded. "Yeah, I thought maybe he just needed some space. But you're making it sound like there's more to it."

"There is," Elena said, her voice dropping slightly. "John doesn't sleep like most kids. Ever since he figured out his Glitchtrap form, he's been spending his nights diving into the internet. And not just for fun—he's been collecting information. He sends anonymous tips to my company about illegal activities, corruption, anything he can dig up. The stories we've broken because of his leads have been some of the biggest in our industry."

Rumi's eyes widened in shock. "You're telling me this kid—your eleven-year-old—is a one-man investigative unit? Every night?"

Elena nodded, her expression proud but tinged with concern. "He says he does it because he wants to help. He knows how much my work means to me, and he doesn't want money or recognition. He just wants to make the world a better place, even if it's one piece at a time."

Rumi shook her head in amazement, running a hand through her short hair. "Wow... That's wild. The little guy's got a quirk so tech-related, but his personality? It's nothing like his—" She stopped herself mid-sentence, her eyes darting toward Elena.

Elena smiled faintly, finishing the thought for her. "—father."

Rumi nodded, choosing her next words carefully. "Yeah. Nothing like Stark. He's not in it for fame or fortune. He's got heart, Elena. And that's rare."

Elena's gaze softened as she stared into her tea. "That's why I love him so much. He's seen the worst of the world, even at his age, and instead of letting it break him, he's decided to fight back. Not for himself, but for others. I couldn't ask for a better son."

Rumi leaned forward, her elbows resting on her knees. "You've raised a hell of a kid, Elena. He's got the brains, the power, and the will to do something incredible. I can see it already—he's going to be a great hero someday."

Elena chuckled, shaking her head. "Maybe. But for now, I just want him to have a chance to be a kid. He's already taken on so much. Sometimes I wonder if I'm letting him do too much."

Rumi reached out and placed a reassuring hand on Elena's shoulder. "Hey, don't doubt yourself. You've given him everything he needs to stand tall in this world. And trust me, when the time comes, that kid's going to shine brighter than anyone expects."

The two women sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their conversation settling over them. Upstairs, John's room remained dark, but if they could see inside, they'd witness him in his Glitchtrap form, his consciousness dancing through the vast expanse of the digital world.

Little did they know, tonight's work would uncover something that would set the stage for an even greater challenge—one that would test not only John's abilities but his heart as well.
