Chapter 10: You Have the Bearing of an Emperor
Chen Shu and the other person looked very strange, sweat dripping down their foreheads, feeling something was off.
Does anyone really come to eat at this kind of place?
The owner, however, was very enthusiastic.
After a whole week, he finally had customers.
He had expected a lot of foot traffic near the black market, no less than the city center, but was very disappointed.
"By the way, add two more yuan and you can get two cans of cola. Want that?"
"Forget it, what kind of place is this?"
Chen Shu's mouth twitched, and at that moment, he saw a striking figure outside the store.
"Dali, come with me, I know how to get to the black market."
"You two don't want it?"
...
...
"Your noodles are too hot, I'm afraid I'll burn my mouth."
Chen Shu and the other person hurriedly left the noodle shop and went onto the street.
"Could it really be that my noodles aren't tasty?" The noodle shop owner kept reflecting, trying to find the problem.
The black market was located in the suburbs, but people still came in a steady stream.
"Xiaoyu jie, Xiaoyu jie."
Chen Shu called out enthusiastically.
In the crowd, a girl with a ponytail kept looking around.
Her face was delicate, skin fair, and eyes extremely clear — clearly someone many boys secretly liked.
Xu Xiaoyu was slightly startled, a look of doubt in her eyes as she saw the two running toward her.
Who are these two idiots?
"Xiaoyu jie, we're classmates. I'm Chen Shu from the Beast Taming class."
"I'm Zhang Dali. You've probably heard of my legendary story."
They started introducing themselves, trying to get closer.
Xu Xiaoyu was the top scholar in the grade, holding first place for years.
Her academic scores were almost perfect, and her beast taming talent was outstanding.
Even her contracted spirit was a rare A-rank, and the school treated her as a prodigy to nurture at Huaxia Academy.
They weren't even in the same league as these two.
"Xiaoyu, do you know these two?"
Next to Xu Xiaoyu, a handsome boy stepped forward,
subtly separating the two sides.
Though his face was friendly, his eyes showed pride and disdain.
"We're classmates. Who are you?"
Zhang Dali couldn't help but notice the other guy's posturing and spoke with displeasure.
"You don't know me?"
The boy raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint smile on his lips.
"You're Huaguobi? Everyone knows you?"
"You brat!" The boy's expression turned cold; he had never seen anyone talk to him like that.
As conflict seemed imminent, Xu Xiaoyu stepped in to mediate.
"This is Wang Teng, the top student of Third High School."
"Oh~~ Wang Teng..."
Zhang Dali suddenly understood and was full of admiration.
This greatly boosted Wang Teng's ego, and a smug smile appeared on his lips, even a soft snort.
"Don't know him at all."
Then Zhang Dali ruthlessly delivered a blow.
"Chen Pi, do you know him?"
"No, but somehow you look like you have the bearing of an emperor!"
"Hm? What?"
Wang Teng looked over, not understanding but feeling it wasn't a compliment.
As a genius, he actually felt like he was being played.
"Do you guys need something from me?"
Xu Xiaoyu interrupted at this moment.
Although Chen Shu and the other looked odd, they were still ordinary students.
If Wang Teng took an interest in them, that wouldn't be good.
"Xiaoyu Jie, we want to check out the black market, but we seem unable to get in."
Zhang Dali said with hopeful eyes.
"Perfect, I'm also going to the black market, so let's go together."
"Since you have business, I won't keep you."
Wang Teng took the initiative to leave, feeling a bit uncomfortable around Chen Shu and the others.
"Xiaoyu, I hope you seriously consider my proposal."
Before leaving, Wang Teng gave Xu Xiaoyu a deep look, then turned and left.
"Xiaoyu Jie, what proposal?"
Zhang Dali was straightforward and asked directly, while the usually strange Chen Shu was silent.
"It's the city-level beast taming competition for seniors. Wang Teng wants to form a team early."
Xu Xiaoyu explained briefly without elaborating.
Perhaps she thought such a competition was too distant for the two.
"Let's go check out the black market."
The three entered from another entrance of the black market.
Xu Xiaoyu needed no guide—
she was a seventh-rank beast tamer and could come and go freely.
"I have something to do. You two can explore by yourselves."
She led them inside, then decided to leave.
Though kind-hearted, she didn't want to waste time with them.
"Thanks, Xiaoyu Jie. If anything comes up, come find me in Beast Taming Class Five."
Xu Xiaoyu nodded and left.
Zhang Dali and Chen Shu looked around the black market like curious kids.
The black market belonged to Nanjiang City's Seven Star district, composed of seven intersecting streets lined with various stalls, bustling with people, its prosperity rivaling the city center.
Though called a black market, it had some official backing; otherwise, it would have been shut down long ago.
"Selling Earth Dragon King Beast Core! From Huaguo's only disaster-level extra-dimensional space, priceless! Can forge contract spirits into legendary artifacts! Don't miss out, dear customers!"
"Shocking! Due to hardships, a high-level beast tamer sells a divine beast egg! If ingested, contract spirits instantly become golden rank!"
"Good news! Today, customers spending over 50,000 Huaxia coins get a personally autographed item! First come, first served!"
Calls and shouts filled the streets—typical for a market area mostly made up of independent vendors.
Though many were like con artists, patient buyers could still find treasures.
Extra-dimensional rare materials were countless; human material science couldn't fully grasp them. Maybe genuine wonders were hidden in the dust.
Zhang Dali looked at every stall with interest and asked a vendor.
"Uncle, how much for the Earth Dragon King Beast Core?"
"Young man, you've got a good eye! I see you have innate talent and will be a star one day. I'll sell it to you cheap today."
"Only ten thousand! Take the Earth Dragon King home!"
"Can you go lower?"
"How much you got?"
"Ten bucks!"
Chen Shu had a dark expression—he was shocked by their conversation.
He expected Zhang Dali to be scolded, but the vendor nodded without hesitation.
"Deal!"
Zhang Dali happily paid ten and stuffed the yellowish sphere into his pocket.
Watching them leave, the vendor sighed, regretting only making ten yuan. Then he took out another 'Earth Dragon King Beast Core' from a large wooden box behind him.
"Dali, you're full and bored? Buying mud stuff?"
Chen Shu couldn't help but comment.
"Do you think I'm dumb? This kind of earth doesn't exist on Blue Star. It's definitely from another dimension. I bought a souvenir for ten bucks—it's worth it."
Chen Shu was speechless, wandering the black market until finally he found what he was looking for.
