Beast Taming? Nah, Dragon Herding is Way Better!

Chapter 129: Let's Fight Then

From that point, not even a moment passed when the glowing peak of the spire Lucas is previously standing on starts forming cracks on its surface, said cracks releasing a bit of steam and smoke from the inside, before the entire glowing part of the structure collapses and explodes into hundreds of different pieces, most of them moving towards the proud young noble at an astonishing speed.

Meanwhile, both the odd young lady and the maniacal young man starts changing their direction as their previous fleeing movement now hurrying towards the direction of the fight between the proud young noble and the emperor-like young man, both of them hoping that their long-time friend will come out safe from such a terrifying attack.

Watching as the other two person who attacked him previously are approaching at a speed faster than the ones they previously used when the two of them flee, Diluc merely looks at them for a while before deeming that they are no longer threats, given that their focus are more on the proud young noble and his safety rather than on how they can take this moment as a chance to attack him.

After dismissing the two though, the emperor-like young man thought to himself that the hardest part of this competition has yet to pass, something that he is completely certain of as he used the mana in the air to detect the presence of two other people lurking in some distance away from the other spires, merely looking at him as he dealt with the three previously attacking him.

As he detects the direction of these two people clearly observing him more than the three or the fight happening between them, the emperor-like young man looks at the explosion that his previous spell made one final time, only moving his gaze away as he saw the body of the proud young noble plummeting from the area of dust and smoke covering a large part of the spire he is previously standing on.

While both the odd young lady and the maniacal young man shifts their direction and moves towards the falling body of their friend, the perpetrator of how that happened now directs his focus towards this new opponent of his, the pessimistic young man that previously reveals a simple, yet somehow still charming quarterstaff out of the cloth covering the entirety of it, along with the seemingly unarmed, soft-spoken lady that regards the emperor-like young man highly in her assessment.

Not even a few moments passed and Diluc is already getting closer to their location, making these two participants tense their muscles in worry as they know how dangerous it could be to fight against this monster, seeing as how easily he managed to dispose of three other contestants that are basically on the same level as them in terms of their combat strength.

What made the two of them a little bit more confident on having the ability to deal with this young man though is the fact that their way of using mana is completely different from the people of this kingdom and the ones within the vicinity of it, which might just give them the opportunity to take him by surprise and eventually win with such advantage, a thing that they had proven to be quite effective as even the instructors who tested them in the final round of the entrance exams couldn't help but praise their peculiar yet masterful way of using mana against their enemies.

"Is your weapon ready, Changsheng?" looking at the seemingly pessimistic young man playing around with the quarterstaff in his hand, the soft-spoken lady asked with a hint of joy and relief in her voice, making the young man smile for the first time in this competition as he heard the genuine concern from the soft-spoken lady's voice.

"Zixiang, is there even a need to ask that?" with the question of the soft-spoken lady reaching his ears, the young man replies with a smile on his face, indicating the positive response to her query as he swung the massive quarterstaff once again, slashing air itself as it whistles while travelling a curved path, stopping only a few millimeters off the ground pointing at the direction where the emperor-like young man is approaching them.

While the two of them are currently feeling all too tense due to the situation, Diluc himself is quite wary of them as well, his senses telling him that the way they are controlling the mana around them is completely different from the typical methods of mana cultivation and control in this place, making him quite wary as he isn't aware of what these changes could possibly bring in the fight.

Hence the reason why he decided to stop his movements when reaching a pretty close distance from their location, not too close from them that he could be taken by some sort of surprise attack, and yet not too far as well so that they can communicate without any discomfort.

As soon as he stopped from his tracks, Diluc then reveals a satisfied smile on his face reading another notification from the floating gray screen, this one making him feel like he is getting closer and closer to perfectly completing the latest mission issued to him.

[Due to your show of absolute and overwhelming strength beyond the measure of your current level and age, there is a rise in the agitation of numerous ancient spirits, some of them giving praises of your talents, stating their respect for you.]

[Due to your show of mental stability and graciousness in front of an offending enemy, there is a rise in the approval of numerous ancient spirits, some of them giving praises of your character and judgement, stating their respect for you.]

Reading the two lines, the emperor-like young man then opens up the Dragon Herding System's main window all while still focusing majority of his attention to defend himself from these two should they decide to attack him all of a sudden, a method that appears to be something they wouldn't do given how they even ignored and refuses to participate the clearly tilted battle between him and the three young nobles previously.

After navigating along the windows of the Dragon Herding System, Diluc finally arrives at the mission he is checking out, a sense of joy filling his mind as he never expected that dealing with those three previously would yield such an amazing result, the number of ancient spirits that respects him reaching beyond double of the previous number he has.

[Unbending Will (Temporary Mission, Extreme Difficulty, One-day time limit)]

[Description: The ancient remnants of past warriors gather upon this archaic, old place, waiting for someone who can represent their will, waiting for a champion that can bring back their legacy from their eternal rest. As the Ruler of the Draconic Realm, you are more than worthy enough of being the champion to inherit the legacy of all these powerful deceased warriors. Show them the might and talent of the Ruler of the Draconic Realm and prove the choice of selecting you right]

[Reward: Depending on the number of the ancient spirits that you stimulated and managed to get the respect of, a certain amount of reward shall be given to you, with the minimum reward being the legacy of the ancient spirit/s that you managed to earn the respect of.]

[Note: For every nine ancient spirit that you earned the respect of, the system will provide an additional reward, ranging from Realm Gold to chances to acquire a new draconic egg (Currently, you already earned the respect of thirty-six ancient spirits, the system has detected that there are one hundred and eight ancient spirits currently observing the things happening in the arena)]

After checking it for just a moment, the expression on his face changes as he once again sports the amiable one he always tries to use to avoid having unnecessary conflict everywhere, something this expression is really good at, but only if he is dealing with reasonable peoples.

"Are you two going to fight as well?" not letting his guard down as he couldn't seem to grasp the nature of these two yet, Diluc asked with the mana dancing around him as if it is all too prepared to take any action that he willed it to.

Hearing the words from their supposed competitor, the two freshmen who came from the eastern lands look at each other before they not together, smiling modestly at the emperor-like young man who appears to be smiling wryly from their reply.

"This is a great chance for us to hone our skills, Leonhart, let's all do our best" looking at the emperor-like young man just a few meters away in front of him, the young man declared with a smile on his face before he raises his quarterstaff once again, holding it with two hands, one point of the weapon pointing directly towards the opponent he wants to fight against.

Hearing the words, the soft-spoken lady nods her head, expressing her approval of the young man's word, making her smile as she directs her gaze towards the emperor-like young man before she replies as well, "We will fight, Leonhart"

The clearly burning intent to fight and win while still taking in the fact that their opponent might be far stronger than them, along with the fact that they are quite respectful in their words as well, those were more than enough for the emperor-like young man to smile in appreciation as he starts to think that the fight against these two might be far harder than dealing with those three young noble.

"Let's fight then"
