Became Pregnant With the Demon King’s Child

chapter 18

"Is it possible for morning sickness to suddenly worsen even though you ate fine yesterday? There might be something wrong with your body—we need to see the priest right away."
Felix insisted firmly on his opinion. He was the type to patch up a broken bone with a makeshift splint for himself, yet he treated every little change in Lowell like it was a matter of life and death.

"I know my body best. This is definitely just morning sickness, so there’s no need to go see the priest."
Felix tightened his arms around his fiancé, still conflicted. A part of him wanted to dash off to the temple immediately, but dragging someone along against their will only to find out it was nothing would just leave them both exhausted.
"Please release more of your pheromones, Your Grace. I think that would help more."

Lowell drove a wedge to end Felix's hesitation. No Alpha could refuse an Omega mate who said they wanted to feel their pheromones.
A bittersweet apple scent gently spread through the room. It was a warm pheromone, filled with concern for his partner. Lowell inhaled it eagerly, using it to calm his churning stomach.
"How did you know that Alpha pheromones help with morning sickness?"

Lowell asked while wrapped in Felix’s embrace. His nausea had completely subsided, as if it had never been there.
"A book."
Felix answered shortly. It was one of his typical habits when he was embarrassed.

He wouldn’t have read something like that normally... Did he study after hearing I was pregnant?
Lowell pictured Felix borrowing pregnancy-related books from the imperial library and cracked a faint smile. It was just like Felix to study on his own, and the thought that it had been about male Omega pregnancy made it unexpectedly endearing.
"Thank you. I feel much better thanks to you."

"Would you like to try some fruit?"
Lowell didn’t want to put even a drink in his mouth, let alone fruit, but trying at least a little was better than making Felix worry.
"Then I’d like something mild-flavored."

"Alright."
When Felix returned, he was holding what looked like half the fruit shop. A variety of fruits filled his arms, and black magic neatly peeled them into elegant shapes.
So if you know how to use magic delicately, you can do things like that.

Lowell found it amusing. Not many people would bother using that kind of ability just to peel fruit, but he happily watched the little magic show.
"Can you eat this?"
The first fruit Felix held out was something Lowell had never seen in his previous world. It looked like a mango but had a greenish hue that made it seem unripe.
"I’ll try it."

A sweet aroma spread across his tongue. The tangy aftertaste that followed actually helped bring back his appetite.
This is edible.
Encouraged, Lowell took a bigger bite. The richer flavor bloomed with the larger piece—unfortunately, so did his stomach’s reaction.

"Ugh."
Lowell tried to force the fruit down, but Felix’s hand was faster. He calmly caught the piece Lowell was about to spit out. Even when Lowell shook his head, Felix gently patted his back and encouraged him to get it all out.
"I’m sorry."

"Try something else this time."
Felix seemed ready to feed him another fruit with a fork, but first went to the bathroom to deal with the one Lowell had spit out. While he was gone, Lowell tried a pale white fruit that looked harmless. It was almost flavorless, but it didn’t trigger any nausea, so it was tolerable.
"Is that one alright? It must not taste like much."

Felix wanted Lowell to try the other fruits too, but Lowell didn’t want to risk upsetting his stomach again. The discomfort itself could be endured, but what truly bothered him was seeing Felix suffer more than him.
He caught what I spit out with his hand and still worries more about me. I don’t want to make him even more concerned.
Lowell finished the bland fruit. Only after watching him eat the whole thing did Felix finally relax and start cleaning up the rest. It was nearly time to leave.

"I’ll take you back to the Count’s estate now. In two days, we’ll depart for my territory."
Technically, the Count’s household should have invited Felix for a meal and offered him proper hospitality as Lowell’s fiancé. However, the Count leaned more toward the Emperor’s faction than the noble alliance and didn’t want to show any closeness with Felix. He kept delaying the invitation until finally sending word the day before their departure. Felix, having easily seen through the Count’s intentions, refused without a second thought. It was better for both sides that way.
Still, it looked like he talked with the Count...

Lowell was curious what Felix and the Count had discussed, but for now, he kept it to himself. He could only guess the Count had dressed up the scolding from a few days ago into a more polite version and delivered it directly to Felix.
He probably said something like: "Since this is a sacred pregnancy, I won’t oppose the engagement, but you must report before the marriage. Once you're wed, Lowell Clarke will no longer be part of our house."
Even a few days ago, the Count had said nothing about protecting Lowell—only barked warnings not to bring shame on the family.

"I’ll prepare for departure."
"Will you be alright?"
The voices calling him back to reality snapped Lowell out of his thoughts. Right now, getting to Felix’s territory was the priority. They had originally planned to travel by carriage, but Felix had suddenly switched to teleportation. «N.o.v.e.l.i.g.h.t» Since the fee was more than twenty times higher, only Lowell, Felix, and two guards would make the trip.

The rest would follow later with the original carriage.
"You’ll need to dress more warmly than that."
Even in hot Phoebos, Felix had insisted on wrapping Lowell in extra layers and still wasn’t satisfied.

"I’ll put on more as we go. If I wear too much now, I’ll end up with a rash."
"He’s not a child. He can take care of himself."
Tony interjected with a tone that made it clear he wasn’t pleased. He’d been eyeing Lowell disapprovingly the whole time.

A loyalist, huh. He probably thinks I’m just using Felix and is on high alert.
Lowell wasn’t the least bit offended by the hostile gaze. Someone disliking him just meant they cared that much about Felix. That was actually reassuring.
Was this the one who stood in Felix’s way when he turned into the Demon King?

The incident during Felix’s demonic transformation had only been mentioned briefly by a supporting character in the original novel, so Lowell couldn’t be sure. Still, he had a gut feeling that Tony was the one who’d tried to protect Felix.
So at least one person genuinely cared for Felix as a person.
But that loyalty hadn’t helped steer Felix in the right direction.

Because that kind of loyalty isn’t quite love. It can end up feeling like pressure—especially for someone with low self-esteem.
Lowell hoped the two could form a better relationship this time.
"We’ll begin teleportation now. There will be a total of seven jumps, and the total duration will be about five hours."

"Wow..."
After the first jump, Lowell let out a dazed exclamation. The scenery whooshed past, constantly shifting. It felt like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. Even after getting somewhat used to magic over the past few weeks, this still amazed him.
"First time teleporting?"

Felix asked, suddenly wanting to stick a finger into Lowell’s open mouth. Oblivious to the mischievous thought, Lowell just gave an embarrassed smile.
"Yes."
Each individual jump didn’t take long, but some preparation was needed at each transfer station, which meant waiting around an hour to an hour and twenty minutes before the next move.

"Aren’t you cold?"
Just as Felix had said, the temperature dropped more with each jump. Now Lowell understood why Felix had been so insistent about layers. At the fifth stop, it got so bitterly cold that he had no choice but to put on the coat he’d been saving.
"Cold, isn’t it? I bet a city boy like you who’s always lived in the capital never imagined this."

Tony teased, pretending to joke, either unaware or ignoring the warning glances Felix sent his way. Lowell held back from saying he came from a country where summer hit over 30°C and winter dipped below -20°C—he figured Tony wouldn’t believe it anyway.
I’d love to let Tony experience Korea’s four seasons—like being dunked in ice water.
"If you’re cold, wear my coat too."

Felix was ready to strip then and there, but Lowell, already warm enough in his outerwear, politely refused. Any more layers and he’d start sweating.
"The next jump is scheduled to begin shortly."
Tia, always strictly professional, gave the update in a crisp tone. Lowell sighed inwardly. Even the brief flicker in his vision during each jump made his stomach churn—despite having eaten almost nothing.

If we’d traveled by carriage for two weeks, it would’ve been a nightmare.
No matter how expensive it was, Felix had made the right choice.
