Becoming Enkidu in DxD

Chapter 22: The Fight Against Kiba (Part 2)

Chapter 22: The Fight Against Kiba (Part 2)

Kiba was sent flying, crashing more than a dozen meters away. Rias and the others stared at Akira in utter disbelief.

In just a split second, he had not only dodged Kiba's attack but also completely turned the tide and overpowered him.

Rias, in particular, had clearly seen it—Akira's reflexive counter had nearly struck Kiba in the neck. If he hadn't adjusted the angle at the last moment, Kiba might've been finished.

She had no doubt in her mind—Akira had more than enough power to snap Kiba's neck in a single strike.

Kiba groaned as he pushed himself up, coughing heavily, his hand pressed to his chest.

The impact had been brutal—if he hadn't been a devil, he likely would've passed out on the spot.

Even Akira looked slightly surprised at himself. That attack had come entirely on instinct. No thought. No restraint. Just raw, reflexive reaction.

"Impressive reflexes and power, Shin-san," Kiba said between coughs, wiping a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth.

Akira extended a hand in Kiba's direction and spoke calmly, "Come, get up. We're not done yet, Kiba Yuuto."

Kiba nodded, determination still burning in his eyes. "Of course. Since I've challenged you, I'll give it everything I've got."

"Go ahead. I'm waiting."

"Sword Birth!"

With that shout, the ground around them began to tremble.

Dozens of magic swords erupted from the earth—blades infused with flames, lightning, wind, water, and more. Each of them glowed with elemental energy, gleaming like treasures unearthed from deep within the battlefield.

A few even materialized right beneath Akira's feet.

Reacting instantly, he leapt back—just before the weapons could pierce the soles of his shoes.

Then, Kiba charged again.

He snatched two swords from the ground and rushed forward with blistering speed.

Akira let out a quiet chuckle, seemingly amused by the renewed energy.

Reaching for one of the conjured weapons nearby, he grabbed a sword mid-stride and used it to parry Kiba's strike.

Blades collided with explosive force. Sparks scattered into the air as the two dueled with relentless intensity. Neither gave an inch.

"These swords are my creations, Shin-san. Remember that," Kiba reminded him sharply.

Suddenly, the lightning sword in Akira's hand surged with energy and discharged violently.

A jolt of electricity shot through his arm. He hissed under his breath and immediately dropped the weapon, stepping back with a wince.

He glanced at his palm—a fresh burn was already forming, the skin scorched slightly.

It wasn't serious, but it was the first injury he had taken since arriving in this world.

Still… within moments, the red blistered skin began to knit itself back together. The burn faded as though it had never been there.

A body molded by divinity.

As long as Akira remained connected to the natural flow of the earth, his form would regenerate endlessly. Minor injuries—even lethal ones—meant little.

Kiba didn't let up.

His next charge came swiftly, this time dual-wielding two of his strongest offensive blades—one blazing with fire, the other crackling with lightning.

Akira's eyes lit up with something that resembled anticipation. He stepped forward to meet the strike.

Kiba's sword cut through the air—but Akira slid to the side, dodging effortlessly, and drove a punch straight into Kiba's chest.

The blow was sharp and clean.

Kiba staggered, the force reverberating through his ribs.

He swung in retaliation, but Akira caught his arm mid-motion.

With precise control, Akira blocked the incoming slash from the second sword using his forearm, then pivoted and delivered a brutal kick to Kiba's waist.

Kiba dropped to one knee, breathless. The moment he did, Akira seized his wrist again and brought one of the fallen blades up to Kiba's throat.

"You've lost."

His voice was calm—unemotional.

Kiba froze.

It was over.

Akira had completely dominated the match in a matter of seconds.

Even Kiba looked stunned. That was it? Already?

Akira let out a slow exhale. "So this… is the combat instinct of Enkidu. Terrifying."

Throughout the entire duel, there had been several moments where he almost killed Kiba without even realizing it.

His body hadn't seen Kiba as a sparring partner—it had seen prey.

If he hadn't consciously restrained himself, Kiba would've died long before the fight even began.

"I've lost."

Kiba forced the words out with difficulty, but without resentment. He acknowledged it. The gap between them was undeniable.

Another 1% added.

Akira folded his arms, feeling a flicker of curiosity spark inside him.

If defeating Kiba yielded this much… what would happen if he fought Rias next? Or even Sona?

He quickly pushed the thought aside.

That wasn't a road he wanted to walk—not yet.

From the very beginning, both devil heiresses had shown interest in recruiting him. To them, he was a valuable asset… or more bluntly, a tool. A servant.

And that was something Akira had no intention of becoming.

After all, he had been reincarnated into this world with a cheat system. Becoming someone else's pawn would defeat the entire purpose of his existence here.

Sure, in the original story, Hyoudou Issei had lived a life that most men would envy.

But that was his story.

Akira wasn't about to copy anyone.

Besides, look at Issei's kids—how many of them even carried the Hyoudou name?

In Japan, it was customary for the wife to take the husband's surname.

So when you really looked at it, Issei's "harem" seemed more like a coalition of noble alliances than a true family.

Still… you had to admit—Issei lived the dream.

Not like that other Makoto. One got a global harem. The other got decapitated.

"That was incredible, Shin-kun."

A voice came from behind. Akeno approached with her usual calm smile, though her eyes sparkled with admiration.

Akira glanced her way, his voice flat. "Just self-defense."

That same, indifferent reply again.

The moment he said it, the expressions of Rias, Akeno, Kiba, and Koneko all stiffened.

They'd heard that line far too many times.

From the very first day they met him until now—no matter how overwhelming his display of power, his answer never changed.

It was getting frustrating.

Especially for Akeno.

She had gone out of her way to approach him as a beautiful woman… and this was the best she could get?

At least act a little flustered, will you?!
