Chapter 24 – The Death of Hyoudou Issei

Just as Akira had predicted, Hyoudou Issei and Amano Yuuma officially became a couple. They spent the entire day on their first date, walking together through the city.

Laughter, joy, and sweet moments filled the hours they shared. For Issei, it was an unforgettable experience—something he had only dreamed of.

Since childhood, he'd developed an extreme fascination with the Oppai—thanks to the "mysterious" stories whispered by shady old men around the neighborhood. That unhealthy obsession shaped him into a perverted teenager who was routinely shunned by girls.

But today, he had a girlfriend. A real girlfriend. They were on a real date. The world felt like it had shifted.

As the sun began to dip behind the horizon, the two of them arrived at a quiet, empty park.

"Time really flies, doesn't it, Issei-kun?" Yuuma's voice was soft and full of warmth.

"Yeah… Yuuma-chan, it feels like the whole day passed in an instant," Issei replied, a goofy grin on his face.

"Did you have fun today?"

"Of course! I got to go on a date with you, Yuuma-chan. It feels like a dream."

Yuuma turned her gaze toward him, her expression unusually tender. "Issei-kun…"

"Hm? What is it?" he asked, still smiling.

"To celebrate our first date… can I ask you for one thing?"

Seeing her shy expression, Issei's mind instantly jumped to the worst—and best—kind of delusion.

"O-of course~ Ask me anything."

Yuuma's voice dropped to a chilling tone. "In that case… Issei-kun, would you die for me?"

In an instant, the sweet, bashful girl he had fallen for transformed into a cold, merciless devil. Her eyes, once gentle, now glowed with unrelenting killing intent.

"W-what? Yuuma-chan? Haha… that's a weird joke…" Issei chuckled nervously, sweat trailing down his cheek as he tried to laugh it off.

Yuuma's voice was laced with indifference. "I'm sorry, Issei-kun. You were deemed a threat. So you need to be eliminated. If you want to blame someone, blame the 'God' who placed a Sacred Gear inside your body."

Without warning, a glowing lance of light formed in her hand and shot forward with deadly precision—piercing straight through Issei's chest. The impact knocked him back a step as blood splattered onto the ground.

"Y-Yuuma... chan…"

Issei's eyes widened in disbelief, his trembling hands reaching toward the girl who had just impaled him.

Black feathers slowly drifted through the air as large, obsidian wings unfurled from Yuuma's back. Her school uniform shimmered away, replaced by a skin-tight, dominatrix-like battle outfit that radiated dark energy.

In the dying flickers of his consciousness, Issei's last thoughts were pathetic but honest.

If only… I'd gotten to touch oppai just once…

That single obsession clung to him even in death.

In that regard, perhaps there was no one on Earth who could rival him.

Raynare—no longer pretending to be Yuuma—looked down at Issei's lifeless body, a faint, nostalgic smile playing on her lips.

"To be honest, today was pretty fun. I'll remember you."

All day, Issei had played the perfect lovestruck fool. A simping, groveling mutt. And for Raynare, who had played the role of his fantasy girl, it had been mildly entertaining.

Then, a metallic rattle suddenly echoed through the air like a hunter springing a trap.

Raynare's eyes narrowed. Her instincts screamed danger.

From the distance, a glowing golden chain streaked through the sky toward her like a bullet of divine punishment.

Reacting instantly, she spread her wings wide and shot into the air. The chain struck the ground where she had just been standing, exploding into the earth and leaving behind a deep crater.

Seeing the sudden ambush, Raynare didn't hesitate. She flapped her wings again and retreated swiftly. In her mind, Hyoudou Issei was already dead—she had no reason to linger.

A digital chime resounded in Akira's ears.

[Detected: Child of Fortune. Would you like to seize his 'Luck'?]

Akira raised an eyebrow. "Child of Fortune?"

[Yes]

[Child of Fortune = Main Character]

"So I can steal his protagonist luck too?" he asked aloud, eyes locked on the bloody body lying nearby.

"Absolutely," Akira replied without hesitation.

He stepped toward Issei's body. Despite the gaping hole in his chest and the torrent of blood spilling out, Issei was still clinging to life—barely. His vitality was absurd. A trait worthy of the so-called main character.

A moment passed.

With that, Issei's breath left him for the final time. His body stilled.

And in that same instant, a crimson magic circle burst to life on the ground near the corpse. From it emerged a girl with radiant crimson hair, eyes filled with urgency.

Rias Gremory took in the scene at once—Issei's lifeless form, Raynare in the air, and Akira standing nearby.

"He… died…?" Her voice trembled slightly.

She was stunned. The boy she had secretly been watching—the one who held a Sacred Gear—was gone.

Her eyes slowly lifted to Raynare, and fury welled up like a storm within her.

It had taken so long to locate a Sacred Gear wielder, and she had even allowed the Fallen Angels to make the first move, hoping to intervene afterward and bring him into her peerage.

But she had miscalculated. Everything had gone wrong. She was too late. All that remained was a corpse.

What a miserable twist of fate.

Meanwhile, Akira stood still, his face lit with satisfaction.

He had spent 5% of his Inherited Template Points to steal Issei's gear and fortune—but the trade was worth it.

Because the system wasn't done rewarding him yet.

From the sky, Raynare studied the scene below with furrowed brows.

She didn't recognize the unfamiliar boy who now stood beside the body, but Rias Gremory was unmistakable.

As a scout assigned to Kuoh Town, Raynare was well aware of the territory's ruler—Rias Gremory, heiress to the prestigious Gremory family.

Rias's gaze burned with unspoken rage and killing intent. But she had yet to realize that the Boosted Gear had been stolen from Issei's body. After all, Sacred Gears—while rare—could still change hands under special circumstances.

Besides, her attention had always been on Akira from the very beginning. Issei had merely been a backup plan.

Truthfully, Issei's reputation at school had been awful. Perverted, disgusting, and isolated. If not for the Sacred Gear, Rias wouldn't have even looked at him.

Then, a faint ripple stirred the air as more golden chains burst forth from Akira's direction—flying toward Raynare with divine precision.

Even if she was only a stepping stone in the prologue, Raynare was still a valuable source of experience.

And for Akira, every opportunity to grow stronger counted.
