Becoming the Wealthiest Tycoon on the Planet

Chapter 475: Chapter 475: The First Leader to Be Rescued

If it weren't for the lack of solid foundations, not having a trustworthy management candidate to rely on, and anticipating that once the company grows, all sorts of people will come knocking to scheme over his shares and technology, William would have already unveiled products like smartphones, super batteries, automatic recognition systems, virtual imaging technology, and even the Ark Reactor.

Of course, with William's current strength, he didn't fear these plots; he could simply eliminate anyone who tried to cross him.

Currently, he's holding back for two reasons: first, he no longer has financial worries, and second, he's not even twenty yet and has no need to rush.

Anyone with a bit of sense knows to wait until there's a solid plan or confidence before launching high-revenue projects. With no shortage of funds, technology, or projects, why would he risk investing in the Bank of France? Especially when he couldn't stand the bank's shareholders.

"Are you sure you don't want to reconsider? If you help the Bank of France recover its losses in the stock market, I can guarantee you a 10% share," said Kelner-Bacon, still reluctant to let go.

"A ten percent stake? Should I commend you for your generosity?" William chuckled and clarified before Kelner could misunderstand. "Sorry, but from my perspective, it's no longer about money or shares."

"Those idiots at the Bank of France treated me like a fool. Even if they all knelt and begged, I have no interest in investing to save them. I'd rather watch any potential opportunities slip by in a few months than help those fools make money."

Though he said this, William couldn't help feeling a bit regretful. Since the attack was going to happen today, any chance to profit was already lost. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so quick to pass up the money.

Because of this missed opportunity, he purposely mentioned that any real chance would be in a few months, intending to distance himself from today's events while emphasizing that he wouldn't invest because of his grudge against the bank's shareholders.

"You really are something," Kelner-Bacon said, a bit helplessly, looking at William's annoyed expression.

He couldn't tell if William genuinely disliked the bank's shareholders or was simply looking for excuses because he didn't see a future in the bank's prospects.

"It seems my team's days of research were wasted," Kelner said, waving a folder in his hand. "And the hours I spent last night and this morning reading these files were for nothing. I even rehearsed my pitch on how to get you to part with your money."

"Haha," William laughed heartily at this. "Sorry for denying you the chance to show off your eloquence, but I have to admit, I'm starting to like you a bit, Kelner."

"Thank you," Kelner replied, pleased as his usually serious face broke into a smile. "So, are we friends now?"

"Of course," William agreed, though he didn't believe that meeting twice and exchanging a few words made them true friends. He was certain Kelner still had some favor to ask or a reason to keep him around.

Sure enough, Kelner, upon hearing William's confirmation, smiled and asked, "Since we're friends, could you tell me if you don't see any future for the Bank of France?"

"No," William said after a moment's thought, shaking his head. "Quite the opposite. If they can get through this crisis, I actually believe the Bank of France could move up from third to second place in the rankings in the next decade."

"Why?" Kelner asked, intrigued.

"Why? Haha, that's a long story, one that could take three days and nights to explain," William said, glancing at his watch, which read 8:37. He gestured to it and added, "I'm a bit pressed for time today; let's find another chance to chat."

"Oh heavens, you really are a capitalist," Kelner quipped, knowing William was dodging the topic. Otherwise, even a long story could be condensed into a few minutes or even a few sentences. He surmised that William indeed held a strong grudge against the Bank of France.

Yet, as someone who had reached a position of power, Kelner wasn't about to give up easily. Smiling, he said, "I formally invite you to my residence. Let's arrange a time to meet after today."

"No problem," William nodded. He knew he would be spending considerable time at his French properties, Siche Castle and Chantilly Castle. With nearly 9,000 hectares of land to develop, he was keen to make connections with French upper society, ensuring that he'd have suitable allies if he ever needed support from the higher-ups.

With this in mind, William thought it over briefly and decided that since he had a good impression of Kelner after two meetings, he might as well save him.

Standing up, William prepared to say goodbye, lying smoothly as he said, "Sorry, I really am on a tight schedule. I need to be at the White Palace to meet with His Majesty Philip by nine o'clock; today, I'm his noble escort."

"Haha, I almost forgot you're a real noble," Kelner said jokingly. "Honestly, you're the least noble-like noble I've ever met."

"Whatever," William shrugged. "I wasn't raised according to noble traditions, so it's only natural I don't have that air."

Kelner personally escorted William to the dock. Before saying goodbye, he smiled and said, "Perhaps we can chat at the funeral?"

"No, thanks. I'd rather not stay around you big shots," William replied, understanding Kelner's intentions. First-row exposure was high-profile, and it was evident that Kelner wanted to show the world they had a friendly relationship, making any future visits to Kelner's residence seem natural.

While he had no interest in rubbing shoulders with those at the top, Kelner's remark gave William a reason to offer him an explosive-detection device.

"Although I don't want to be a third wheel among you officials, I still appreciate the invitation."

Feigning a moment's thought, William reached into his coat pocket, pulling a key-shaped explosive detector from his storage space.

"Here's a little gadget I've been working on. It can detect any remote or timed explosives within a hundred-meter radius. If it starts vibrating and beeping, it means there's definitely an explosive nearby, and the closer it is, the stronger the signal. It even has a small LCD screen that'll point in the direction of the device."

"I've heard of this. I didn't expect you to release a more discreet model so soon," Kelner replied, unhesitatingly taking the device. "The watch model you released earlier was too flashy for someone like me. I wanted one but was worried about public backlash for spending taxpayer money on something so luxurious. I mean, one watch detector at a million pounds is quite extravagant. But with this discreet version, I'm sure you'll get plenty of officials reaching out to buy one from you."
