Becoming the Wealthiest Tycoon on the Planet

Chapter 477: Chapter 477: Showing Off

Unaware that the sight of his sidearm had already become a topic of discussion across England and even globally, William followed the old butler into the main building through the front entrance. After going through the necessary security checks, the guards, noting his ID badge, didn't question why he was armed and simply allowed him through.

Upon entering the hall, William immediately saw Philip, dressed in a black suit, engaged in conversation with a woman who appeared to be in her fifties. Standing beside them were Charles and Wilson.

Noticing William's arrival, Philip, who had been notified of his presence, waved him over. As William approached, Philip introduced him to Agnes, saying, "Lady, I suppose William needs no introduction."

"Of course, for a while, all my granddaughter could talk about was William," Agnes teased. "Philip mentioned that you would be accompanying us today. Hopefully, those young ladies who like you won't find it improper that I'll be by your side."

With that, Agnes extended her hand. "Mr. Devonshire, I'm Agnes."

"Lady, the honor of accompanying you and His Majesty is all mine," William replied, shaking her hand. "I'm William Devonshire; it's a pleasure to meet you."

After the introductions, they began chatting amiably. Seizing the moment when the attention had shifted, Wilson leaned in and whispered to William, "I heard you're armed. Is that really necessary?"

"Just a precaution," William replied with a smile. "You never know when something might happen. You wouldn't want me trying to protect your grandfather empty-handed, would you?"

William pondered if he should give a hint, thinking that even a weak justification could lead people to interpret his actions as foresight. Besides, if he embraced the noble title, saving Philip might earn him the chance to advance further up the ranks.

Lowering his voice, he added, "I don't know why, but I woke up with an uneasy feeling today. That's why I brought my gun and had my team on full alert."

He then gave a warning. "Be careful—my instincts are usually spot-on. That's my secret to beating the stock market."

"My God, you're not joking," said Wilson, stunned, initially thinking William was joking. Seeing William nod slightly, Wilson asked in a low voice, "You're serious?"

"No kidding. Don't worry about your grandfather; I've got him covered. If anything goes wrong, look out for yourself first. Understood?"

Wilson quickly nodded.

At 9:20, an officer approached Philip and reported, "Your Majesty, the ceremony is ready."

"Very well," Philip nodded, then asked, "Have the guests arrived at the cathedral?"

"With the exception of a few, including Grand Duke Devon, who couldn't attend due to health reasons, most of the nobles and officials are already there, awaiting you and the other leaders."

"Good, then notify the drivers to be ready to head to the cathedral right after the ceremony," Philip instructed.

"Yes, sir."

Standing by, Agnes received a similar update from her aides. She quietly relayed instructions, then accompanied Philip as they stepped out of the main building, standing in front of the entrance.

William instinctively positioned himself slightly behind Philip on his right side, while the bodyguards kept a discreet distance of two to three meters, staying out of the cameras' view.

At exactly 9:30, the ceremony began.

The send-off, essentially the lowering of the royal flag to half-mast, lasted barely ten minutes before nearing its end.

Watching the ranks of guards in red uniforms march past Philip and Agnes, William, who had been on high alert, suddenly felt a wave of unease when the last row of guards approached with their rifles. He instantly realized that the assassins were hidden among them.

A loud explosion boomed from a short distance away, and two of the guards in formation suddenly broke ranks and charged forward.

Already prepared, William stepped back, pulling the shocked Philip behind him while noticing the assassins' rifles aiming at Agnes. He swiftly whipped off his coat, throwing it in front of Agnes two meters away.

Two shots rang out, the bullets meant for Agnes striking the coat that William had flung in front of her.

Immediately after, William reached under his arm, pulling out his gun. Two quick shots and the two assassins fell with bullets to their heads.

"Drop your weapons! Drop your weapons!"

After taking down the assassins, William pointed his gun at the remaining guards who were stunned into immobility. A few nearby bodyguards, finally snapping out of their shock, drew their guns and joined William, shouting in English and German, "Put down your guns! Put down your guns!"

Spectators beyond the iron fence, realizing there was a gunfight, either ran or dropped to the ground, using the concrete barrier at the base of the fence for cover.

"Damn," William muttered as he was about to check on Philip. With his senses heightened, he detected several figures dressed as police officers and civilians rushing towards him, guns drawn.

William had no intention of showing mercy; even a mistaken kill wasn't a concern.

A rapid series of gunshots followed, and anyone aiming in his direction was taken down with precise headshots. In less than ten seconds, eight gunmen positioned nearby were all eliminated by William.

Several live cameras had captured the entire scene as William pulled Philip behind him, threw his coat to protect Agnes, and took down all the attackers.

Everyone watching TV in England stared at William in awe, some murmuring in disbelief, "God… oh my God…"

Once the area was secure, William turned to Philip and asked, "Are you alright, Your Majesty?"

Still somewhat shaken, Philip looked at William's calm expression and immediately felt reassured. Taking a deep breath, he glanced at Agnes, who was lying on the ground covered by William's coat, and said, "I'm fine, but please check on Agnes."

But William didn't need to go over, as Agnes's bodyguards were already gathered around her.

A few moments later, Agnes stirred, propping herself up with her hands as her bodyguards anxiously asked if she was alright.

Agnes, momentarily dazed, assessed her condition. Other than some knee pain, she felt no injuries and responded, "I'm fine, I'm fine."

After a few seconds on the ground, Agnes, mindful of her image, realized it wouldn't do to stay seated any longer. "Help me up," she instructed her bodyguards.

They assisted her to her feet after confirming once more that she was uninjured.

Seeing Agnes stand, many spectators who had been watching from a distance broke into applause.

But before the applause could last long, two more explosions boomed from afar.

William immediately instructed the bodyguards around him and Philip, "Escort His Majesty and Lady Agnes inside."

"Understood, sir."

A group of bodyguards quickly ushered the two back into the main building.

William, meanwhile, removed the magazine from his gun, inserted a new one clipped to his right side, spun his gun skillfully, and holstered it under his left arm.
