Chapter 19: Chapter 19

Franklin POV

Beth and I talked the entire ride back to the house. I told her just about everything, well, almost everything. I left out the whole superhero thing for now. You know… baby steps.

She told me a lot about herself too. She's really into history, like nerd-level obsessed. And she absolutely loves animals. Turns out, her favorite is the owl.

Apparently, she even had a pet owl back home. Well, not exactly a pet. It was wild, but it used to show up at her window every day for food. She said she had to leave it behind when she moved, but she hopes it's still hanging around.

Then the topic shifted to my friends… and eventually to the whole two girlfriends situation.

"Wait, time out," Beth said, wide-eyed. "You're telling me those two girls standing with you at the airport? Both of them are your girlfriends?"

"Yep," I nodded. "Yolanda and Ava. My childhood best friends. And I had no idea they liked me until about a week ago."

"And they're both cool with… sharing you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Believe it or not, yeah. They talked it out before even telling me. Apparently, they'd both liked me for a long time and just… decided they were okay with dating me together."

Beth blinked. "Okay. Wow. I feel like I just walked into an anime."

I laughed. "You're not the first to say that. My buddy Ned said the exact same thing. Then he joked about me collecting more girlfriends and starting a harem."

"What happened after that?"

"Yolanda and Ava jumped him. Nothing serious, just playful, but yeah. He regretted saying it immediately."

Beth chuckled. "So… no more girlfriends on the horizon? You're not out here trying to catch 'em all?"

I smirked. "First of all, I got that reference, and you are definitely going to get along with Peter and Ned. Second, no, I think I've reached the limit. I'm not that lucky, and I really don't think Yolanda or Ava are open to recruiting."

Beth laughed, then shook her head. "This is going to be interesting."

"You have no idea," I said with a grin.

We finally arrived at the house. I helped Beth with her bags and showed her to the guest room.

She started unpacking while I gave her a hand. I noticed a few things right away. One was a thick book about owls, expected. Girl loves those birds like I love breakfast burritos. But then I saw something else that made me pause.

A book on mutation.

Huh.

I picked it up, flipping it open casually, and then my eyebrows went up. Written by Charles Xavier.

Now that was interesting.

Okay, sure, maybe it's just casual interest. I mean, mutants are kind of a big deal. People either fear them or worship them or both. So maybe she's just curious. But with everything going on lately, my paranoia meter ticked up just a bit.

Still, I'm not going to make any assumptions. I bookmarked it mentally—just in case it comes up again, and gently placed the book on her shelf next to the one about owls.

She didn't seem to notice. She was too busy lining up her animal figurines on the windowsill, including, of course, an owl.

Yeah. Definitely going to keep my eye on that one.

Not in a creepy way.

Just in a superhero with trust issues and a galaxy of secrets kind of way.

A Couple of Days Later

It's been a good few days.

Beth's settling in great, actually better than I expected. She clicks with the crew like she's been here for years. Cindy M, MJ, and Peter practically adopted her. It's weird how well she fits in, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Meanwhile, the Inhumans officially arrived. They're in the new city now, Inhuman City, New Attilan, whatever they're calling it, and so far, no explosions or riots. Which is shocking. New York usually freaks out over way less. I'm still keeping an eye on things, though. Just because nothing's gone wrong yet doesn't mean it won't.

Right now, I'm flying patrol over the city in my Astrodactyl form. Stopped a few petty crimes, nothing too serious. Honestly, it's shaping up to be a boring Thursday.

…Until it wasn't.

A crash rang out below me, loud, metallic, violent. I dipped down to check it out, expecting some amateur hour bank robbery.

What I got instead?

Lex Luthor.

Standing there in sleek black and gold armor like he just walked off the cover of an alternate-universe comic.

I landed a few feet away, confused and instantly on edge.

"You're Lex Luthor. You should be in prison. How are you here?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.

He looked at me like I just asked him if water was wet. Calm. Calculated. Dangerous. His gaze drifted to the Omnitrix symbol on my shoulder.

"No matter what world you're in," he said, "with power or without it… You always choose to be a hero."

I blinked. "…Okay, yeah, I heard you were nuts, but this? This is next-level crazy."

I dropped the alien form and returned to myself, cracking my neck. "Listen, because I'm feeling generous today, I'm giving you one chance to surrender. If not, I'll happily go Humungousaur on your ass."

(Sure, it might sound like overkill, but this is Lex Luthor. The guy's thrown hands with Superman before and somehow lived to monologue about it.)

Lex raised both hands slowly. "Alright. I surrender."

"...."

"What?" he said.

"I just, I didn't expect you to actually give up. You're Lex Luthor. You usually go full evil genius, power suit, Kryptonite-laced everything." I waved a hand. "You've got a reputation to maintain."

"Well, I'm not doing that today," he said flatly. "Take me to a police station. Call the Justice League. I need to speak with them."

"This is the weirdest Tuesday—wait, is it Tuesday?"

"Thursday."

"Right. Whatever." I shrugged. "I'll take you to the station, but contacting the League? That's a different story. I'm not in the League."

Lex looked confused. "....You're not a member? Are you with the Avengers?"

"Nope. Doing my own thing for now," I replied. "And why do you care what team I'm on?"

"I'll explain everything. Just… get me to the League."

Now I'm definitely getting déjà vu. This feels familiar—too familiar.

Still, I took him to the nearest precinct and explained everything to the officers. They locked him in a secure waiting room while I waited just outside. The place was crawling with riot gear and high-grade tech just in case Lex tried anything slick.

I stayed close. Because let's be honest.

This was way too easy. And nothing about Lex Luthor is ever easy.

Twenty minutes later...

I heard the unmistakable sound of heavy footsteps behind me. I turned around—and sure enough, there they were: Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash, walking into the precinct like the world's most overpowered welcome committee.

"I'm glad you guys made it," I said, standing up.

"So you're the one who brought Luthor in?" Flash asked, eyeing me.

"Nope. He surrendered."

That made all three of them pause.

"Yeah. I had the same what-the-hell look on my face, too," I added.

Superman nodded. "Alright. We'll take it from here."

"Actually… can I come with?" I asked. "I know I'm not a member, but this whole thing feels off. He said some weird things, like he knew me personally. If there's even a chance he knows my identity, I've got people I need to protect."

Wonder Woman stepped forward. "We understand. But just remember: Lex Luthor is a fool only in appearance. Underestimating him would be a grave mistake."

"Yeah," I said. "The guy threw hands with Superman. That alone tells me to never let my guard down."

Wonder Woman gave a small nod. "Very wise."

They led the way, and I followed.

But when we entered the holding room, everything stopped.

Because sitting calmly in a chair, Lex Luthor was…

butt naked.

I froze.

"WHY—just why?" I said, hands in the air like I'd just walked into a crime scene I couldn't unsee.

Lex looked perfectly calm. "To prove I'm unarmed. No tech, no hidden devices. Nothing dangerous. I'm here in peace."

"You could've just worn a hospital gown, or I don't know, literally anything else," Flash muttered, covering his eyes. "They call me the Flash, and even I'm not that fast to unsee this."

Lex stood unfazed. "What I'm about to tell you may be hard to believe—"

"You're from a parallel world," Superman said, cutting him off.

Lex blinked. "…How could you possibly know that?"

Superman folded his arms. "X-ray vision. Your organs are mirrored—heart's on the right side. And the real Lex Luthor is still locked up in Metropolis".

"Well… great. Since we've all confirmed I'm not your universe's evil Lex, let me just say, I've got quite the story for you," Lex said, standing up.

"NO. No standing. Not without pants," I said quickly.

"Oh. Right." Lex looked down at himself like he just realized.

Lex slipped his pants back on—thank God—and started reattaching the rest of his armor.

"Alright. Let's head to your Watchtower," he said, tightening a strap. "Dial is coming too. He's needed."

Everyone looked at him like he just dropped a name we weren't familiar with.

"…What?" Lex blinked.

I tilted my head. "Dial? Is that supposed to be me?"

Lex gave a small, sheepish smile. "Right. Force of habit. That's your hero name where I come from. But here, you go by Omni, right?"

"Yep. Omni. Otherworld Lex."

"Well, Omni, you still need to come. We can't do this without you."

"Do what exactly?" Superman asked, arms folded.

Lex looked serious. "Save my entire world."

That shut everyone up real fast.

We didn't say another word as Superman tapped his earpiece. Moments later, the room glowed white—and boom, we were teleported straight to the Watchtower.

"Okay… that felt really weird," I said, trying to steady myself.

"You get used to it," Flash said casually.

"Yeah well, mine doesn't feel like my atoms got turned into jelly before," I muttered.

"Different tech. But it's fine, you'll live," Flash shrugged. "Come on, the League's main council's waiting."

I followed the Big Three, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Flash, through the Watchtower, trying not to get distracted by how insanely cool this place was. Heroes were everywhere, some I recognized, others I didn't, but the sheer scale of it all left me gawking like a tourist at Disney World.

Even though no one could see my face under the Omni armor, I'm pretty sure my whole vibe was screaming this-is-my-first-time-here.

Lex chuckled beside me. "First time, huh?"

"Yeah. Never been here before," I admitted.

"So, how long have you been active?" he asked.

"Two and a half weeks," I said.

He blinked. "You're just starting?"

"Yeah, why? You sound surprised."

He looked at me like I just told him I bench pressed a planet for fun. "I guess I am. You… you seemed more seasoned. In my world, you and I are friends—comrades."

I stopped walking.

"Me being friends with Lex Luthor, in any universe, is a hard pill to swallow."

He smirked. "Understandable. But I promise, I'll explain everything. I just don't want to repeat myself, and this is very urgent."

I nodded and kept walking with him.

We finally arrived at what could only be described as the League's council chamber—the big leagues. Every heavy-hitter was here.

Sitting or standing around the massive circular table were:

Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan.

Batman.

Hawkgirl and Hawkman.

Black Canary and Green Arrow.

Shazam.Cyborg.

Aquaman.

Martian Manhunter.

Doctor Fate.

Captain Atom.

Red Tornado.

The Atom.

Mr. Terrific.

I stood there for a second, taking in the lineup.

"Yep," I whispered to myself. "This is gonna be one hell of a meeting."

Batman looked straight at me, his eyes narrowing like knives.

"Why is he here?" he asked coldly.

"Lex wanted him here," Superman replied.

"Why?"

"We don't know yet, but maybe just listen for once and we'll find out," I said, folding my arms.

He turned that famous Batman glare on me.

Yeah. That one.

"That doesn't work on me," I said flatly. "I trained with Wildcat. That guy is way scarier than you, rich boy."

That got his attention.

He blinked, just slightly—but so did everyone else in the room. Shock rippled across the room like a wave, except for Lex, who looked like he expected this.

Batman stood up.

"How?"

"Well," I said, cracking my neck, "after Wildcat told me he couldn't convince you to stop digging into me—which I knew he couldn't, by the way—I decided to take matters into my own hands. Started hacking into your systems. Then the League's. After that, finding out who you were was honestly... child's play. Bruce Wayne."

You could've heard a pin drop.

Cyborg straightened up, frowning. "Wait, you hacked our systems? I upgraded everything with fail-safes."

"And I scan for intrusion attempts daily," said Mr. Terrific, his voice dead serious.

"Yeah," I said, smirking a little. "Say it. I'm good."

Batman stepped forward, eyes locked on mine. "So you know who I am."

"Not just you," I said casually. "After going through your files, I found out everyone's secret identities."

The room collectively gasped.

"And by the way," I added, "did you guys know Batman has contingency plans to take down every single one of you?"

"What?!" several League members said at once.

"Yeah," I nodded, crossing my arms. "I was surprised too. I get it, you want to be prepared if someone gets mind-controlled or goes rogue. But not telling your teammates? Kinda shady, don't you think?"

I glanced around the room. "All it takes is one villain hacking into your Bat-systems, and boom, they've got a blueprint to beat the League."

"My systems are impenetrable," Batman snapped.

"Dude," I said, "I literally just proved they're not."

"Enough!" Wonder Woman's voice rang through the chamber like thunder.

Everyone stopped.

"We'll deal with Batman violating our trust and Omni hacking our systems later. But right now, we need to hear what Lex Luthor has to say."

"Okay, just to be clear," I said, raising a hand, "I only hacked you guys because Batman was digging into my personal business. I did it to be fair."

Wonder Woman shot me a sharp glare.

"I will now… shut up," I said quickly, lowering my hand.

Lex stepped forward. Everyone was seated—except me, of course, because apparently, Omni doesn't get a chair.

"My world and yours are very similar… but different in all the ways that count," Lex began.

"Oh wait, let me guess," Flash cut in, "you were the leader of your Justice League?"

"As a matter of fact, yes," Lex said calmly. "I was. We were Earth's Mightiest Heroes."

"Were?" I echoed.

"There's a group in my world called the Crime Syndicate," Lex said grimly. "They're a twisted mirror of your Justice League—powerful, ruthless, and completely without morals. They killed most of the heroes on my Earth. There are only a handful of us left… and that's why I came here. I need help."

"I mean… I get why you want our help," Shazam said, tilting his head toward the League. "But why Omni? No offense, Omni."

"Some taken," I said. "But I'll let it slide. You're my third favorite hero."

"Oh nice! Who's second? Who's first—?"

"Shazam, focus," Batman cut in.

"Right. Sorry."

Lex scanned the room. "The reason I need Omni… is because he's the strongest hero."

The room fell silent. Every head turned toward me in surprise.

Lex continued. "None of you really know what Omni is capable of… do you?"

I sighed. "Yeah, and I'd kinda like to keep it that way. I've got a lot of tricks I haven't shown yet. So please, no spoilers, Lex."

"Understood," Lex nodded. "Moving on. The only reason the Syndicate hasn't taken over my world already is because of one last nuclear safeguard. But I don't think that'll hold them back much longer."

The air in the room grew heavy. The League was silent. No jokes. No banter. Just a shared look that said one thing.

This just got real.

"I'm in," I said without hesitation.

Every Justice League member turned to look at me.

"What?" I shrugged. "I've always wanted to travel the Multiverse. People need help, right? And I'm a hero. That's kinda my thing—helping people."

Superman stepped forward. "Lex, can you wait outside while we discuss this?"

Lex gave a polite nod and walked out, the heavy doors sliding shut behind him.

"You shouldn't have agreed so quickly," Hawkman said, arms crossed. "You have no idea what you're walking into. For all we know, he could be lying."

"I've been scanning him nonstop since we got here," I replied, arms folded too. "Body language, tone, heartbeat, dude didn't lie once during his whole explanation. So call me crazy, but for the first and probably only time, I'm choosing to trust Lex Luthor."

"You can't just decide to run off to another world," Captain Atom said. "This isn't a game."

"Why not?" I asked. "Last time I checked, I'm not part of the Justice League. I do my own thing. Worst-case scenario, if I get stuck—I'll just build a portal gun."

"You really think it's that easy?" Hawkgirl raised a brow.

"Lady, I'm full of surprises," I said with a smirk. "And come on, this is what the Justice League does, right? Protect people. Doesn't matter if it's this Earth or another."

The room fell quiet for a moment, until Superman stood up.

"You're right," he said firmly. "There's no need to keep debating this."

"Yes, there is," Batman cut in, standing too.

"What are you talking about?" Superman asked. "A world needs protecting. The League protects Earth."

"Our Earth," Batman said. "And if you all leave, this one is left unguarded. That's not a risk we can afford."

"Unprotected?" I scoffed. "You do realize there's another superhero team called the Avengers, right? If you're that worried, Bruce, just stay behind."

"This is a League discussion," Batman said, coldly. "You're not a member. Stay out of it."

"Fine. Whatever you say… rich boy," I muttered.

"Omni's right," Black Canary said, standing up. "The Avengers can cover for us. And if you're that concerned, you can be the one to stay. I'm going."

"Same here," Green Arrow said.

One by one, League members started nodding and voicing agreement.

The final lineup was: Superman, Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern John Stewart.

The others chose to remain behind.

I clapped my hands together, grinning under my helmet. "Welp… I didn't have 'save an entire alternate Earth' on my bingo card, but let's do this."
