Betrayed By My Ex-Husband, Claimed By His Half-Brother

Chapter 23: A meeting under the nose of her ex

Indeed, Henry stared at her for a good two minutes before releasing her.

Mia's hand reached for her chin, and she stiffened when she touched something warm and wet with the tips of her fingers.

As she pulled back, Mia was not even surprised when she saw that her fingertips were tainted red with blood. Ever since Henry lost his memories, he simply no longer cared if his actions hurt her. He treated her like a doll that held no emotions or senses.

Like she couldn't perceive or feel pain.

"I hope for your own good that you are telling the truth, Mia," Henry warned her in a low, vibrating voice. "If you dare to lie to me again, I swear that will be the last thing you will ever do."

After he finished throwing those words, he turned around on his feet and stormed away as if staying with her disgusted him. Maybe it did.

In the past, these actions of his would have hurt Mia, but this time around she heaved a sigh of relief. She was glad that Henry had left her alone and didn't interrogate her any longer. Because if he had, with how hard her heart was slamming against her ribs, Mia was sure that the man might have sensed something amiss.

With her hand raised, she patted her chest twice and did some breathing exercises to calm herself a little.

In and out. Breathe in and out, she told herself.

Once Mia deemed herself stable enough to walk past the main hall without her legs turning into jelly, she strode towards the entrance. She was glad when she didn't meet with anyone as she stepped out of the Holman mansion.

However, she didn't expect that the second she stepped down the last stair, someone would reach out and catch her wrist before pulling her towards them. Mia felt a chill climb over her spine, which intensified when her back hit the firm curve of the pillar outside the Holman mansion.

Mia looked up at the face that could melt any woman into a puddle of lust and clenched her fists when his hot breath sprayed against her lips. Her heart rose to her throat as she looked behind her. She didn't want to be seen by anyone, especially not when she was with this man.

Although there was no one behind her, someone could walk up to them at any moment.

Was this man out of his fucking mind?

Lucas had caused quite enough trouble for her with his actions and now he was doing such an unscrupulous thing. Even if he didn't care about his reputation and the consequences of his actions, she did.

Her complexion turned pale as she tried to shake off the man's hold on her wrist. She struggled fiercely and whisper yelled at the man, "...What are you doing? Let go of me right now."

However, there was a disparity between the strengths of a man and a woman. Mia's struggles were simply futile as she struggled against the man. While she was giving it her all, the man's mouth curved into a slow and lazy smile. And he looked at her as if she were some cute cat that was misbehaving with him. The audacity of this man.

She raised her foot and kicked the man.

"Can you not hear me? I said let go of me," she repeated in a low voice.

"Are you trying to stir something like last night?" Lucas asked with a teasing smile on his lips. "With how hard you are fighting against me, I am afraid that you didn't have enough last night."

"I am not—"

"Do you not realise what all the twisting and turning of yours is doing to me?" Lucas questioned with a raise of his brow.

Horrified, Mia looked down and saw their bodies pressing together.

She stopped struggling but continued to retract her hands from his grip. Of course, she failed; since she couldn't free herself when she was using her entire body, how could Mia succeed when she was only tugging and pulling her hands?

"Mister Lucas," Mia tried to speak in a rational manner even though their condition was anything but normal. "Last night was a mistake; I was drugged and I –I had no choice. But because I was also partly wrong, I have no intention of pursuing the matter of last night, so please forget it."

"No intention of pursuing the matter?" Lucas arched a brow as if he found her words amusing.

Even Mia felt a bit ashamed of those words but they had been spoken and she could no longer take them back. Luckily, she was really good at feigning disinterest and suppressing her embarrassment. She nodded and ignoring the way his eyes were twinkling, she spoke to him in a stern manner, "What happened last night is the responsibility of both parties; after all, you were not drugged or drunk but you still made a conscious decision to do that with me."

"Since that is the case, I think no one owes anyone anything."

Lucas's brows lifted. She felt him lean in closer and Mia shrank her shoulders. She wanted to turn the size of an ant and escape but she knew that it was not possible.

"You really are an amusing woman, Miss Mia," Lucas chuckled. His eyes dropped to her mouth before flickering right up. He said to her, "When you wanted me, you begged me to give you what you wanted. Now that you got what you wanted, you patted your pretty little arse that my silly brother missed out on and want me to let go of the incidents from last night? I never thought that you were this kind of woman."

"Usually it is the men who live behind a tip and —" he drawled before adding, "Just a tip of a hundred dollars? Don't you think it's way too little? I nearly felt my waist snap."

"Can you not?" Mia hissed as she looked around. The last thing she wanted was for anyone to hear that she and Lucas spent a night together. She wanted to end things with the Holmans and not renew their past relationship with a new twist.

"Just because you want to avoid it doesn't mean that it did not happen," the man told her as he reached out and tugged on one of her wavy curls that were dangling in front of her face and mused, "Taking someone's virginity and not taking responsibility? It's poor etiquette, don't you know that?"

His voice dipped into a husky whisper that snared around Mia's body like a snake. She could feel her body stiffen and recalled the things that the man had said in the dining room. Right, last night was his first time.

"It was mine too—"

"But I never planned on sleeping with a woman." Lucas countered right away. He stepped farther into her personal space and patted her on the cheek. "Maybe I was saving myself for someone? Or maybe I just never wanted to be with a woman just yet? Ever thought of these questions? You think you can just walk away after using my body."

His words were ambiguous and coarse, making Mia's face flush with the deepest shade of red. She felt like she had been pushed to stand on burning coals.

"What do you want?" Mia asked with a resigned air.

She could not understand what this man was trying to do. Was he trying to use her to attack Henry and take control of the Holman corporation? Mia thought that she might have cottoned onto Lucas's plans.

She pursed her lips and said to him with a sigh, "I do not understand why you are trying to get involved with me, but as you have seen, I am no longer Henry's wife. Even if you get entangled with me, there is nothing that I can do to help you. It's better if you think of some other ways to bring Henry down, Mister Lucas."

As soon as she finished speaking, the man burst out laughing.
