Billionaire’s Wicked Obsession

Chapter 12: Ch 12 – Shadows Behind the Rain

Elsie sat at the edge of the bed, her gaze empty as she stared at the window still fogged up from last night's rain. Her mind was filled with echoes of the conversation earlier—Professor Callahan's sharp expression, the words that lingered in the air, and the unsettling feeling creeping into her chest.

She took a deep breath, trying to push away the anxiety settling in her thoughts. It had been months since she started living with Pierce, and everything felt better than she had ever imagined. But lately, something had been bothering her—a strange premonition she couldn't quite explain.

The bedroom door opened slowly, and familiar footsteps approached.

"Elsie?" Pierce's voice was soft, but there was tension in it.

Elsie turned, looking at the man standing at the doorway with a serious expression. "What is it?" she asked, trying to sound casual.

Pierce stepped closer, sitting beside her on the bed. "Professor Callahan was looking for you again today," he said quietly.

Elsie tensed immediately. "Why?"

"I don't know. But there's something about him that makes me uneasy," Pierce replied, his eyes studying Elsie's face intently. "Are you okay?"

Elsie swallowed hard, trying to ignore the uneasiness creeping up her spine. "I'm fine," she said softly, though her heart told her otherwise.

Pierce watched her for a few seconds before sighing and gently brushing his fingers against the back of her hand. "If something is bothering you, you know you can tell me, right?"

Elsie gave him a small smile, though the anxious feeling inside her refused to fade. "I know, Pierce."

Outside, the sky remained gray, mirroring the doubt in Elsie's heart. Something was happening—something bigger than she realized. And deep down, she knew… this was only the beginning.

The air in the room felt heavy, filled with unspoken words and lingering uncertainty. Elsie lowered her gaze, staring at her fingers intertwined in nervousness.

Pierce sat across from her, silent, as if waiting for Elsie to speak first. But she only sighed, trying to calm the storm of thoughts swirling in her mind.

"What are you thinking about?" Pierce's voice finally broke the silence, gentle yet filled with concern.

Elsie slowly lifted her eyes, meeting his gaze that held a deep intensity. "I just... feel like something isn't over yet," she murmured softly.

Pierce leaned back in his chair, observing Elsie's expression with quiet understanding. "Something like what?"

She bit her lower lip, hesitating to put it into words. "I feel like there's a shadow following me. My past, or maybe something else. I don't know, but I can't shake this feeling."

Pierce reached out, taking her hands in his, holding them firmly. "You're not alone in this. Whatever it is you're feeling, we can face it together."

Elsie looked into his eyes, searching for reassurance. But deep down, she knew this uneasiness wasn't just ordinary fear. Something was lurking, something she couldn't yet understand.

And she could only hope that Pierce was right—that she wouldn't have to face it alone.
