Chapter 11: Changes.
"Fascinating."
I was lying down on a smooth black platform, with a multitude of lights moving up and down my body, all of them performing different scans.
I looked at Numoral as he stared at a screen, reading the results that the scan gave him.
"This is... truly amazin-No!" He turned to face me. "It is you who are amazing." There was a certain madness in his gaze as he made eye contact with me.
"You were just a spirit with abnormal levels of negative and neutral 'Da' before, but now..." He waved his hand and a projection of my body appeared above me, and I looked at it. "All of that negativity has become neutral as well."
I looked at the hologram that showed my body and fell into thought.
'Da'.
The energy that emanated from souls and spirits
The substance that made this world.
It had five types.
The first and most common type was 'Solid'.
Solid 'Da' was the most common, as everything that was material was made of it, at least in this world, including the shells of spirits. It is theorized that it is formed by the world using residual energy from dissipated and destroyed spirits, but it has not been verified.
The second type and the second most common was 'Negative'.
Negative 'Da' is what makes corrupted spirits. usually formed due to negative thoughts and feelings such as anger, fear, disgust, sorrow, etc. If a spirit has too much of it, it will be corrupted, forming a Cor, short for corrupted spirits. As they consume more and more energy, the Cor evolve. So far, there have been five stages of their evolution recognized, with Numoral theorizing that there may be up to 8, but that is just a theory for now.
The third type is 'Positive'.
Love, hope, joy, satisfaction. Emotions such as these create positive 'Da', which is used by spirits to make seals and barriers for the Cor. A spirit in possession of excessive positive 'Da' feels discomfort and excessive exposure will cause the spirit to destabilize and collapse, killing it.
The fourth type, 'Neutral'.
The fourth most common type of 'Da'. Neutral 'Da' is made when equal quantities of positive and negative 'Da' meet and neutralize each other, forming neutral 'Da'. By itself, neutral 'Da' is harmless, but it disrupts the flow of any 'Active Da' that it comes into contact with, which is the fifth type of 'Da'.
Active 'Da' is the 'Da' that spirits are made of, and also the third most common type of 'Da'. It is the strangest type, almost everything a spirit does is powered by this energy. Their movement, their speech, their combat, everything. It does not seem to operate under the same rules as the others.
I looked at Numoral who was muttering rapidly next to me.
"What does it mean?" I asked aloud, breaking Numoral away from his trance.
"I think it would be better for me to just show you instead of giving you a lengthy explanation."
He waved all the machines away and motioned for me to sit up.
I got up and folded my legs to stabilize myself.
Numoral held out his hand.
A yellow glowing sphere formed in front of it, before shooting forward at me.
When it struck me, it turned into complex patterns as it spread across my body.
But suddenly, it collapsed and dissipated.
I looked away from my chest and at Numoral.
"Due to the great amount of Neutral 'Da' in you, most spells and abilities that target your insides will be ineffective, as their structure will be disrupted."
Numoral walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
"This also means that most seals will also be useless against."
As he said that, several lines sprouted from beneath his hand and spread down from my shoulder and onto my arm.
It followed the same process as the previous yellow seal. It spread a little, then tried to affect my Active 'Da', but it was destroyed due to the Neutral 'Da' present inside me.
He removed his hand and looked at me with a gleam in his eye.
Unknown to me at the time, Numoral had been thinking about what this meant about spirits overall.
'Neutral and active 'Da' can't coexist in equal amounts due to their drastically different natures, but they are perfectly in harmony inside you. How? What did that curse do to you? What changed? What about positive and negative then? Can they also harmonize? Why couldn't I do it before? What would that 'Da' be able to do? If they can harmonize, does that mean that an opposite creature to a Cor exists? Formed due to Positive 'Da'? Is it possible for a spirit to go through a similar corruption like Cors but with Positive 'Da'? What would happen to it? What would it look like? What would it hunger for? What abilities would it have? Would it possess consciousness? What could the conditions for that Positive-corruption be?'
Numoral's thoughts ran wild with theories and possible experiments.
I looked at him as we kept eye contact. He seemed to become more and more excited the longer he stared at me, which confused me.
"Hello?" I spoke to see if he was conscious that I was still here.
That broke him out of his trance.
As he snapped back to reality a frown appeared on his face, showing frustration from being disturbed from thinking his thoughts.
Then it disappeared as he registered where he was.
"Sorry about that. I got lost in my thoughts."
He apologized and the door opened.
As two people entered, I recognized one of them as the blond man from before.
"Good timing." Numoral clapped his hands. "Rich, go to my office and retrieve my fusion folder, then go to Queen and tell her that we are going to run the entire folder."
Rich seemed to be the name of the man who I didn't know.
Then Numoral turned to the blond and spoke.
"Plot, take Anomaly to-" I interrupted his speech to clarify that I had a name now.
"Alias."
"Hmm?" Numoral turned to me.
"My name is Alias."
"Okay." Numoral didn't seem to care.
"Take Alias here to get his 'Own'. Then take him to the cells and put him against some Cors. Make sure that he does not come to harm. If there is ANY lasting damage, you will be a participant in my next purification."
Numoral's tone was calm and smooth, but his words seem to have Plot terrified.
"Yes sir." Plot bowed to him, and I was sure that I could see a tremble.
"Another thing, recovery spells won't work on him."
With that said, Numoral hurried out of the room, leaving me sitting, and Plot still bowing.
He straightened his posture five seconds after Numoral left, and I could see a trickle of sweat move down his forehead, along with a tremble in his fingers. He was still looking at the ground.
"What is his purification?" I asked, genuinely curious.
Plot shook his head.
"You don't want to know."
He wiped the sweat off of his forehead using his hand and looked at me.
"Let's go Mr.Alias."
"Just Alias."
"As you say."
With that done, we made our way out of there.
