After Sasuke said those words, Kushina was already on the verge of rage, and Naruto's face was twisted in fury.
"These shinobi who hunted down the Uzumaki clan... they really are unforgivable! Just because we know sealing techniques, we're supposed to be wiped out? And those who used the chaos for their own gain—they're just as bad!" After hearing Karin's story, Kushina deeply empathized. She'd faced similar circumstances in her youth. But compared to Karin, Kushina had been luckier.
Though she had become the jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, she had eventually met Minato Namikaze—thanks to him, she found her place in Konoha. Karin's experience had clearly been far harsher.
"Those people make me sick," Naruto said, his fists clenched tight.
"That's why I want Karin to come to the Hidden Leaf Village—and join our team. Not only can we pull her out of suffering, but we'd also be filling out our squad. I hope you can talk to the Hokage about it, Aunt Kushina," Sasuke said, his voice low and firm.
"Don't worry, I'll talk to Minato. But first, I want to meet that little girl. Is that okay?" Kushina nodded, agreeing without hesitation. As a fellow Uzumaki, she was more than willing to help if she could.
Hearing this, Sasuke finally felt a weight lift from his shoulders. With Minato's influence, the Hidden Grass Village wouldn't dare make a move.
"I'll explain it to her. But if she refuses, I won't force her," Sasuke said respectfully.
"Of course. It's her decision," Kushina replied.
With that goal accomplished, Sasuke withdrew from Naruto's subconscious space.
Outside, Karin was still sitting cross-legged on the forest floor.
"Karin, Naruto's mother wants to speak with you. She's also from the Uzumaki clan—and she's agreed to help bring you into the village. Of course, if you don't want to go through with it, that's your choice," Sasuke said calmly as he walked toward her.
As he approached, Karin's face turned a shade of red, and she quickly looked away.
"T-Then… alright," she muttered, barely audible.
Although she didn't believe much in clan ties before, these people had gone out of their way to help her. Compared to Kusagakure, Konoha really did seem like a better place. The blond Uzumaki boy she'd met didn't seem to be living a bad life at all.
Later, Naruto helped Karin enter his subconscious so she could meet Kushina. Sasuke didn't follow them in. Instead, he picked up a kunai, carved off some pieces of bear meat from the kill they'd made earlier, skewered them, and began roasting them over the fire. He also took out the dipping sauce he'd prepared.
After some time passed, Karin came out of the meeting looking visibly shaken.
"Here, eat something." Sasuke handed her a skewer, freshly brushed with seasoning.
Tears welled up in Karin's eyes as she took the meat. She wiped her face and whispered, "Thank you… for being so kind to me…"
Sasuke didn't ask what she and Kushina had discussed. He simply let the silence speak. Not long after, Naruto grabbed some skewers for himself, then left to search for his teammates.
"Karin, can you sense chakra around us?" Sasuke asked calmly after their small lunch.
Karin nodded. She closed her eyes and extended her sensory field.
"There's a team of shinobi roughly 300 meters ahead," she said.
With the location in hand, Sasuke moved instantly. Karin trailed behind him, careful but focused.
Soon, Sasuke discovered three Rain shinobi already dead, and among their possessions, he found the Earth Scroll. Now that he had both the Heaven and Earth Scrolls, he could go directly to the central tower to complete this phase of the Chūnin Exams—but Sasuke wasn't ready to leave.
There was still one objective left in the Forest of Death. He hadn't encountered Orochimaru yet.
As night fell, Sasuke set up camp near a creek.
He kindled a fire, cut more bear meat from their catch, and set it to roast again. Beside him, Karin sat some distance away, clearly uneasy, head bowed.
"Do you want to wash up? I have spare clothes. They should fit you," Sasuke said, noting her discomfort—likely from the earlier fight with the bear.
"H-Huh? Oh…" Karin looked confused at first, but then blushed furiously when Sasuke tossed her a set of clean clothes.
She quickly stood and dashed upstream along the creek, disappearing from view.
Sasuke's system space was vast—over 10,000 cubic meters—so spare clothes and supplies were always ready. It would've been a waste not to prepare.
"Come out, Ryūka," Sasuke called softly.
A figure wrapped in fiery red cloth appeared beside him—Ryūka, his Zanpakutō spirit.
She snatched a skewer of meat straight from the fire and bit into it.
"Not bad. You're finally learning how to cook," she said between bites, eyes narrowed in mock approval.
Sasuke gave her a sidelong glance. "You act like I had a choice."
"You haven't been simulating Bankai training lately, have you?" Ryūka said pointedly, licking her fingers.
She was right. Sasuke had been distracted with too many things. And deep down, he dreaded those simulations.
Every time he entered his Zanpakutō's inner world, he was subjected to brutal torment—stabbed instantly, roasted by high heat, or shredded by billions of microscopic blades. Even someone with his willpower could barely endure it.
"Ahem… I've been busy. I'll get back to it soon," Sasuke replied, coughing awkwardly.
Ryūka wasn't fooled. She didn't press further, but calmly said:
"You're spreading yourself too thin, Sasuke. You're juggling too many systems—Reiatsu meditation, Bankai simulation, Soul Reaper arts like Zanjutsu and Shunpo, and the shinobi chakra arts of this world."
Sasuke frowned. "So… what are you suggesting, Ryūka?"
"I'm saying you should specialize for now—prioritize mastering your Zanpakutō's Bankai. Once you unlock it, your power will skyrocket in a short period."
Sasuke fell into thought. She had a point. With so many disciplines to train, his progress had become diluted. But if he could just unlock Bankai… he might finally be strong enough to confront what lay ahead—including Orochimaru.
