Chapter 403: Zooming Through the Sky

As a shadow passed over the faces of the three soldiers, the sound of an impossibly powerful engine roared to life.

What was previously a lavish Tuscan home was now an impossibly large warship.

At a glance, it resembled the jagged beak of some ominous bird or the horn of a rhinoceros beetle. It was dark and pointed with short wings and numerous bladed protrusions.

"It was way bigger at first." Bianca informed. "Babe had to tamper it down by like a whole city block."

"Not really all that surprising, since the N'Kai are all giant alien monsters and stuff." Nadine was cleaning her glasses when she suddenly paused and stared at Malachi.

"…What?"

"Can you get all big and stuff?!"

"I guess so?" He shrugged. "I turned into a really big snake the other day, but I don't know how I did it. I kinda just sneezed and it happened."

Celeste prayed that Malachi never had one of his scaly accidents while they were in bed, or she may just scream her lungs out.

Steam hissed from an opening port and a dark metal ramp slid down.

The duo heard the sound of footsteps rumbling closer, and Serana rushed out with her hair and body wrapped in towels.

"Hey, shit head! What did I tell you about changing the house while I'm inside? I went from a shower to the living room and-"

"We brought Waffle House." Malachi held up a bag.

"All is forgiven."

Serana skipped down the ramp and snatched the bag out of Malachi's hands before she rushed back.

He sighed, relieved that he had successfully avoided being chewed out by his friend and now step-daughter.

He turned to the three soldiers who'd been remarkably silent this entire time.

Though that was because their jaws were unable to close after all that they had seen.

"So, uh… wanna see the rest of the place?"

-

The interior of the home had been transformed as well.

The entire place had a sleek, black metal quite different than anything that could be found on Earth.

Sei had spent a few hours mapping the design of the house to be as comfortable as possible during their stay. The bedrooms had largely remained unchanged.

However, there were presently a number of new rooms for various purposes, requested by both Joanne and Malachi.

There was a gymnasium, a storage space for supplies, an armory, a medical room, and an indoor pool.

Luna also requested a sauna.

But by far, the most intriguing part of the entire ship was the bridge.

It was everything 'Star Wars' would have you believe.

A control board lined with colorful buttons and numerous radars was the highlight of the whole thing... If you were into the technological aspect of it all.

But for Malachi? His sole interest was the big-leader-like chair sitting in the middle of the bridge.

He turned to sit in it, but realized that Bianca had beaten him to it. And she was sitting in the chair like the main character from Hellsing.

"Babe... Give me something cool to say." Bianca tried to deepen her voice as much as possible, but failed miserably in her endeavor.

"How about the little Einstein theme song?"

"Alright, moment over." Bianca sighed and stood up.

Malachi instantly swooped in and stole her seat. He assumed his own dark, brooding posture and interlocked his fingers.

"...Activate the Death Star."

"Aw, you dick, that's genius!" Bianca had never been more jealous of her fiancé in her life.

Evaline finally managed to pull her head together- the first among the group.

"Boss... do you have any idea just what the government would do with something like this-"

"Yes." The entire Saint family responded at once.

"That is why we are getting out of here as we speak..." Malachi pushed a button on the armrest of the chair.

A blue holographic screen appeared in front of his face. With a swiping motion, a flurry of lights flickered on within the bridge, and an automated countdown played over the loudspeaker.

At it's end, the entire ship floated into the air in one smooth motion. Officially marking the beginning of their grand journey.

"Where exactly are we going..?" Ezekiel patted his stomach. "Need to know what my diet's going to be looking like for the next couple of months."

Everyone glanced at Sei and Luna.

Sei smiled modestly and rubbed the back of her head. Luna wore a similar awkward expression.

"We... are going to Japan. Should be there in about three hours or so, but I'll show you to your rooms until then."

Malachi was still living out certain anime fantasies when Joanne discreetly tugged on his collar.

"Can you... give me a hand for a bit..?" She whispered.

-

Malachi shut the door to their bedroom behind him and turned back to look for Joanne.

He saw her white wings disappear into the bathroom and followed in the path of her perfume.

"Hey, babe...? Don't know what you need a hand with, but-"

A discarded shirt hit Mal in the face.

When he looked up, Joanne was trying her best to perform her version of a striptease.

It sent off all kinds of alarm bells in his head.

"That doesn't look like your usual happy look." She noted.

"I bet if you took a peek in my pants right now I'd look real goddamn happy."

Joanne smirked and started walking towards him. "Good, because I would really like it if you would share that happiness with me right about now."

She brought her lips closer, but Malachi pulled back a bit before Joanne could turn his mind to mush with a kiss.

"Something's up with you... You're not really being yourself."

"What do you mean by that?" Joanne raised a brow.

"You're being all sexy."

Joanne wrapped her hands around her husband's neck. "Are you saying your wife isn't sexy? Answer carefully so I can know if I should try to bury you and claim your life insurance policy."

"You are very sexy." Malachi kissed her on both cheeks. "I'm just saying it feels like you're trying really hard to distract yourself. Care to tell me why that is?"

A fierce glare was Joanne's initial response.

However, her eyes slowly lost their intensity the longer that Malachi stared at her. He was like one great big lovable puppy.

She had never hated that fact before right this moment.

"Haaa... fuck you." Joanne acquiesced and placed her head on her husband's chest.

"Love you too, babe. Wanna talk now?"

Joanne was silent for a long time as she wrapped both of them in the embrace of her wings.

Malachi rubbed her back slowly as he waited for her to speak, listening to the sound of her breathing and lightly thumping heartbeat.

"...Sometimes, I really miss being able to drink." Joanne sighed.

"I know, babe."

"And Awena's a fucking cunt..." Joanne's voice cracked.

In a dramatic twist that he wasn't expecting, Joanne wept silently as she trembled with rage.
