POV of Friedrich von Roon
In oldtown sounds of combat were still being heard in some side streets between Prussian soldiers and the city guards still trying to drive out the Prussians.
But in most of the area, the Prussians had secured their presence and were dispersing through the streets, searching for the last resisting Hightower house guards.
Inside the city, in the center of the city, had been set up the medical tents where Prussian doctors were working trying to control the wounds of the Prussian soldiers.
''don't move and if you want to do something bite this, let's avoid screaming, I don't want my patients too desperate'' said a doctor who put a stick in my mouth while he was stitching one of my wounds.
''uhh, arrg, sure doctor'' I tried to hold back my complaints.
'Damned be the son of a bitch who stabbed me in the fight, of all the ones who could have decided to kill me it had to be with the one who had an armor piercing dagger, luckily he only pierced a little'
While I was leading the assault on oldtown one of the men-at-arms of the Hightower house came at me violently while I was trying to make my men scatter around the city and the bastard managed to stab me, the armor did its job only the tip of the dagger got through and I managed to get him off me before he could continue attempting to stab me.
The rest of the conquest of oldtown was a breeze, just taking the walls with the help of the Finns who several days ago were mercilessly killing the guards inside the city and now only the job of requisitioning the valuables from the population was left, as the last pockets of resistance should be dying down by now.
Which will be a huge effort considering that the city exceeds three hundred thousand inhabitants and we are only around fourteen thousand soldiers, we will be busy for a long time without considering that the tercio from Berlin will try to conquer arbor island and the shield islands, so we will have fewer hands to work with
''Well, there it is, no more scratching, keep the wound from getting infected, it's pretty close to the heart the moment it gets infected you die'' said the doctor going to attend to another patient.
'Well, it looks like I'll have a new scar to show off.'
I put my armor back on and went to supervise the looting work.
Accompanied by some of my men I began to walk through the streets of the city.
'Quite nice and clean the city, it seems whoever ruled this city was diligent about maintaining the city, it shouldn't be hard to get the city back on its feet and start taxing the merchants'.
As I walked through the streets I encountered the typical useless resistance of the filthy peasants seeking to protect their belongings, as they see our tradition of not killing in looting as weakness, they think they can resist
An idiot trying to defend himself with a five centimeter knife against two Prussian soldiers
He didn't seem to want to listen to anything so it was better to act than to let more people see this.
I quickly approached him and with a strong blow on his hand I made him drop the knife and grabbed him by his clothes.
And I grabbed him by his clothes and put him against the wall.
''Listen to me, you fucking asshole, we are not going to hurt you, but if you try to resist we will kill you and make an example of you, so cooperate'' I said as I held him against the wall.
I turned to the soldiers who were trying to talk to him earlier
''Go inside and take out everything of value, quick we don't have all day!'', I said to the soldiers
My men entered the idiot peasant's house and when I noticed that the peasant calmed down I let him go releasing my grip on his clothes.
'God, sometimes I think people just want you to beat them to death.'
''don't ever do something so idiotic again, there won't be a next time'' I said moving through the streets of oldtown again, as I had to get to the harbor to see how many ships we could confiscate.
As I moved through the streets trying to get to the port we came near a possible thief who was running at us, at a surprising speed.
When he saw us, he did not stop, but ran much faster and threw a bag with something heavy in it at me.
When my men tried to catch him he practically evaded all my men's attempts to catch him and several collided with each other.
Five of my men were on the ground as the thief escaped.
'What the fuck just happened?'
As I tried to process what had happened I saw how several Hightower guards were coming up where the thief came from.
''HEY, what are you doing here, you had surrendered and were supposed to be in your quarters until further notice'' I shouted at the guards who were panting with exhaustion.
''Yes we know, we apologize, but he stole something very valuable from the citadel, have you seen the thief?'', asked the guard.
''you must be in your quarters, NOW, before I consider you a hostile force and order your immediate execution,'' I said angrily.
'if it wasn't because the king asked me not to do anything to the maesters, I would have had these martial law violators executed'.
''I'm sorry sir, but seriously someone while we were fighting among us entered and stole the Valyrian steel that the Maesters have stored in the citadel it is urgent that we catch him now'' said the guard lowering his head.
'Valyrian steel, what's that? Wait, that's what the thief threw at me'.
Hearing the information the curiosity to see the bag invaded me, but I resisted the temptation, since I was in front of the men who were desperately looking for that steel.
''Well, you two help the guards, he went that way'' I said looking at two of my men who were recovering from the blow they gave each other.
''I thank you sir, the moment we catch him we will return to our quarters and respect our surrender, let's go, we can't let that bastard escape'' shouted the guard, running back to where I had indicated to them
When I saw that the guards disappeared down the street where the thief had gone, I began to look at the contents of the bag.
In the bag there were several links made of a steel that resembled Damascus steel, something close to five kilograms to the touch, it must have something of value for the guards to risk their lives to chase the thief
'Hum, looks like there's also some kind of blade *ouch*, verdammt, I cut myself.'
I began to lick the finger I cut myself on.
Cut me through my leather glove, this steel is very sharp.
'If I gave it to a blacksmith with good skill I could make two good-sized swords, worthy of the king, though I would have to do more research on this steel.'
I put the bag under my arm, as I wanted to act naturally and not arouse suspicion, since there were more Hightower guards moving about the city, unarmed looking for the thief
'This steel has to end up in my king's hands, no doubt, if it's something so important.'
''Herr Roon I believe we have what the guards were looking for'' said one of my soldiers.
''I know, soldier, it must be something valuable and it is better that we have it, so act naturally, we must take advantage that they blamed the thief and not us, as soon as we can, we will take this out of the city without raising suspicion'' I said without looking at him as I continued walking to the port.
Arriving at the port I found that several soldiers were unloading crates from the anchored ships and there were many merchants who were crying or with faces of desperation.
''Herr Roon we had heard that you had been wounded, we had thought the worst'' said a field master.
''I am still very much alive, it was only a small wound, but I will wear the scar with pride'' I answered kindly.
''Well how's the loot coming along, we have something good to report to the high command'' I sat down on one of the boxes of goods
''Yes we had a stroke of luck, a shipload of steel, probably to be made into swords, spears and armor for war'' he said very pleased
'Westerosis steel is considered poorly made junk by our blacksmiths, but we can still make use of it in horseshoes or other types of tools that don't have to withstand the pressure of combat'.
''How much steel are we talking about?'', I asked intrigued.
''Almost a hundred tons, our blacksmiths will be happy that they will no longer have to melt the tools of the conquered to make repairs,'' said the field master.
''JA, that's very good, anything else?'', I asked.
"Coins, jewels, clothes, fish, honey, dried fruits, and salt among the most important things", he answered reading a report.
I nodded and instructed him to continue.
While most were distracted I found a trunk where I stored the Valyrian steel I carried on my arm and locked it with the key.
'Tonight I will take it out of the city'.
Several minutes passed and I was already relaxing with the sea breeze on my face when I saw how one of my soldiers pointed his finger at me.
'Oh, this means I'm going to have to answer stupid questions'.
I saw a well-dressed person approaching me with teary eyes.
''you are lord Roon?'', said the merchant between sobs with an accent I don't recognize.
''JA, how can I help you''I said as I stood up straight, placing my hands behind me.
''Lord Roon, I am not from these lands, I am from essos, from the free city of Lorath, my ship is my only means of returning to my home, if you take it and my goods I will not be able to return to my family'' said the merchant.
'If I give in to him, I will have to give in to everyone who gives me a sob story, but he is a foreign trader...diplomatic consequence, though I doubt they will arrive before the war is over...it is the pretender to king's problem, I think he will agree that we punish those who trade with the Targaryen's.'
''You should have thought of that when you decided to support the incestuous Targaryen, I can't do anything for you, I have orders to seize all ships, no matter the flag'' I answered seriously.
''I'm just a merchant, I never supported any side'' said the merchant in despair.
''Of course you did, you traded with the royalist side, giving them supplies, you paid taxes on your wares filling the coffers of the royalists, you supported a side and chose the loser, now don't make me waste time and leave the port'' I said pointing to one of the exits of the port.
''But my lord ....''' the merchant tried to continue speaking.
"DEN MUND HALTEN!, our conversation is over, leave" I said turning around and ignoring the merchant.
The merchant tried to follow me and try to convince me, but I had enough of the trouble with these barbarians and ordered my men to lock him up for violating martial law.
'What a bloody pain in the ass, are these merchants crying about their confiscated property'.
When I finally thought I could get down to doing my job again I was interrupted this time by a group of Hightower guards leading a group of maesters towards me.
'it must be because of that sharp steel'
''Are you the commander of these men?'' asked one of the maesters.
''By my king's orders, I am the commander-in-chief of the oldtown invasion force'' I replied.
''We need you to help us urgently, as you may have been informed we were robbed of all our reserves of a very valuable mineral and we must recover it as soon as possible'' said the maester.
''Did you see me as your errand boy, don't abuse the freedom I have given you'' I answered with a cold tone.
''We understand the situation perfectly, but the robbery was huge, we need you to close the city and have your men help us search house by house for the thief'' replied another maester.
'Hah, these maesters are important, all the lords have one of these chained dogs, I can't say no to them, or my king will suffer consequences.'
''I need information on the matter, I'm not going to throw my men on a wild goose chase, I need to know if you know who it was or how you think it happened''I replied after sighing.
''It was a student, seven days ago, a man arrived trying to become a maester, of course we didn't deny it, he proved to be an exceptional student, in only five days he forged thirteen links between medicine and mathematics, he gained our trust, we thought we were in front of one of the most brilliant minds of the time, but he robbed us, he knocked out the arch maester Ryam and stole his keys and entered the vault stealing a couple of ancient books and taking the valyrian steel'' said the leader these maesters
''Well, a robbery planned well in advance from what I hear, anything more? Physical characteristics?'' I said, writing down one of my handbooks.
''A little short, brown hair, brown eyes'' said another maester
''Great, you just described me to more than a million people'' I said with a sarcastic tone
''He had perfectly well-groomed teeth, white as pearls'' said the leader of the maesters
''Right, is this steel very valuable or just historical value?'', I asked
''Are you kidding?, it's valyrian steel, brute, with that amount you could afford a life of luxury for the rest of your life and guarantee your heirs the same fate for generations.
''Well, save the insults for next time, I'll assign one thousand of my men to help you with your problem, I still have orders to carry out'' I replied looking at the Maesters.
''We thank you for your cooperation'' said the leader of the maesters.
The chained group of men left and I gave orders to my men to start looking for the culprit of the robbery.
'First I give my king to the Tyrells on a silver platter and now a new and valuable gift, although the credit is not mine, that must be reported'.
As it was getting dark, I was walking along carrying the trunk to go to sleep at the camp outside the town
but I came across a familiar group, they were the Westerosis who were with us only they looked ........ extremely exhausted.
Brynden Tully, the brother of one of the rebel leaders, was leaning against one of the walls trying not to fall asleep, he had very pronounced dark circles under his eyes.
And the corbray boy was collapsing from exhaustion.
'Wait, if they're here, that means He's here too'.
That's when I pieced together all the information I had.
'short in stature, brown eyes and hair and his white teeth, he's the one who stole the steel'.
I approached the westerosis
''Brynden Tully, where is your commander?'', I asked the man.
''He said he had to go north and that we were now under the command of Friedrich von Roon '' Brynden answered.
I was about to continue asking when the corbray guy interrupted me.
''can we rest?, the Finn hasn't had almost four days without sleep, between his missions'' the corbray boy said with a sleepy tone
''You.... have the night, tomorrow, you will accompany a field master to conquer arbor and later the shield islands'' I said a little surprised
seeing the happy faces that the Westerosis showed, I didn't even want to imagine what the hell the Finn made them do to
after that, I continued walking and arrived at the camp and left in my tent the trunk with the valyrian steel.
'Those maesters can lift every stone they want, their valuable steel now belongs to the king in Prussia'.
