Chapter 10: vengeance

Aegis's eyes locked onto Helios's, his mind racing with memories of their past encounter. He had killed Helios's brother, Zenith, in a fierce battle, and he knew that Helios would never forgive him.

Helios's face twisted in a mixture of anger and hatred. "You're the one who killed my brother," he spat, his voice venomous.

Aegis's expression remained calm, but his eyes betrayed a hint of caution. He knew that Helios was a formidable opponent, driven by a desire for vengeance.

"I did what I had to do," Aegis said, his voice firm.

Helios sneered. "You're a monster," he said. "You have no conscience, no compassion. You're just a mindless killer."

Aegis's grip on Jane's hand tightened. "I'm just trying to survive," he said. "In a world where the strong prey on the weak."

Helios's eyes flashed with anger. "You're not strong," he said. "You're just a coward, hiding behind your mask and your guns."

Aegis's face remained calm, but his eyes narrowed. "I'm not a coward," he said. "I'm just a realist."

The two men stood there, locked in a silent standoff, their eyes blazing with anger and resentment. Jane watched, her heart pounding, as the tension between them grew thicker.

"You're going to pay for what you did to my brother," Helios said, his voice low and menacing.

Aegis didn't flinch. "I'm not afraid of you," he said.

Helios smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "We'll see about that," he said.

And with that, Helios launched himself at Aegis, his fists flying. Aegis dodged and weaved, his own fists striking out at Helios.

The two men clashed, their blows ringing out through the night air. Jane watched in horror, her eyes fixed on the fight.

But as she watched, she realized that Aegis was holding back. He was letting Helios get in close, letting him think he had the upper hand.

And then, in a flash of insight, Jane understood. Aegis was trying to get Helios to reveal something, to let his guard down.

She watched, her heart pounding, as Aegis pretended to stumble. Helios took advantage of the opening, striking out at Aegis with a vicious kick.

But Aegis was ready. He dodged the kick, using the momentum to fuel his own counterattack.

Helios stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock. And in that moment, Aegis struck.

"What do you know about the royal family's plans?" Aegis demanded, his voice low and deadly.

Helios's eyes darted back and forth, his face twisted in a snarl. "I'm not telling you anything," he spat.

Aegis's eyes narrowed. "Don't play dumb," he growled. "I know you're involved with the royal family. What do you know?"

Helios's face twisted in a mixture of anger and hatred. "You'll never get anything out of me," he spat.

Aegis's grip on Helios's arm tightened. "We'll see about that," he said.

And with that, Aegis dragged Helios into the shadows, determined to extract every last piece of information from him.

But as they disappeared into the darkness, Jane couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She looked around, her eyes scanning the rooftops, but she saw nothing.

Still, the feeling persisted. And as she followed Aegis and Helios into the shadows, she couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead.

As they dragged Helios deeper into the shadows, Aegis's grip on his arm tightened. "You're going to tell me everything," he growled.

Helios struggled against Aegis's grip, but he was no match for the older man's strength. "I'll never tell you anything," he spat.

Aegis's eyes narrowed. "We'll see about that," he said.

He dragged Helios into a nearby alleyway, where Jane was waiting. "Take care of him," Aegis said, handing Helios over to Jane.

Jane nodded, her eyes flashing with determination. "I've got him," she said.

Aegis turned to Helios, his eyes blazing with intensity. "You're going to tell me everything," he repeated. "And if you don't, things are going to get very ugly, very quickly."

Helios sneered, but Aegis could see the fear lurking behind his eyes. "I'll never tell you anything," he repeated.

Aegis's face twisted in a cold, calculating smile. "We'll see about that," he said.

And with that, Aegis began to interrogate Helios, using every trick in the book to try and extract information from him. But Helios was a tough nut to crack, and Aegis knew that it was going to take a lot more than just a few simple questions to get him to talk.

As the interrogation continued, Jane watched with a mixture of fascination and horror. She had never seen Aegis like this before, so cold and calculating. It was a side of him that she didn't know existed, and it made her wonder what other secrets he might be hiding.

But as she watched, she also saw something else. She saw a glimmer of pain in Aegis's eyes, a hint of vulnerability that he was desperately trying to hide. And in that moment, Jane realized that Aegis was not just a skilled fighter and interrogator, but also a complex and deeply wounded human being.

As the night wore on, the interrogation continued, with Aegis using every trick in the book to try and break Helios. But Helios was a tough nut to crack, and Aegis knew that it was going to take a lot more than just a few simple questions to get him to talk.

And then, just as it seemed like Aegis was about to give up, Helios suddenly spoke up. "I'll tell you everything," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Aegis's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Helios took a deep breath. "I'll tell you everything about the royal family's plans," he said. "But you have to promise me one thing."

Aegis's eyes locked onto Helios's. "What do you want me to promise?" he asked.

Helios's eyes flashed with a mixture of fear and determination. "You have to promise me that you'll protect my sister," he said.

Aegis's face twisted in a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "What do you mean?" he asked.

Helios took another deep breath. "My sister is in danger," he said. "The royal family is looking for her, and if they find her, they'll kill her."

Aegis's eyes narrowed. "Why?" he asked.

Helios's eyes flashed with fear. "Because she knows too much," he said. "She knows the truth about the royal family's plans, and they'll stop at nothing to silence her."

Aegis's face twisted in a cold, calculating smile. "Don't worry," he said. "I'll protect your sister. But you have to tell me everything."

Helios nodded, a look of relief washing over his face. "I'll tell you everything," he said.

And with that, Helios began to talk, revealing secrets and lies that went all the way to the top of the royal family. Aegis listened intently, his eyes narrowing as he processed the information.

As the night wore on, Aegis's plan began to take shape. He knew that he had to act fast, to protect Helios's sister and take down the royal family once and for all.

But as he looked at Jane, he knew that he couldn't do it alone. He needed her help, her skills, and her expertise.

"Jane," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I need your help."

Jane's eyes locked onto his. "What do you need me to do?" she asked.

Aegis's face twisted in a cold, calculating smile. "I need you to help me take down the royal family," he said.

Jane's eyes widened in surprise, but then a look of determination washed over her face. "I'm in," she said.

And with that, Aegis and Jane set out on their mission, determined to take down the royal family and bring justice to the people. But as they walked, Aegis couldn't

As they walked, Aegis couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. He glanced around, his eyes scanning the rooftops and alleys, but he saw nothing.

"Jane, I think we're being followed," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Jane's eyes locked onto his, her expression serious. "I know," she said. "I've been feeling it too."

Aegis's grip on his gun tightened. "Let's get out of here," he said.

They quickened their pace, weaving in and out of the crowded streets. But no matter how fast they moved, Aegis couldn't shake the feeling that they were being herded towards some unknown destination.

Suddenly, Jane grabbed his arm, her eyes wide with fear. "Aegis, look!" she whispered.

Aegis followed her gaze, his heart sinking as he saw a group of royal guards emerging from the shadows. They were surrounded, and there was no way out.

"We have to fight," Aegis said, his voice low and deadly.

Jane nodded, her eyes flashing with determination. "I'm ready," she said.

And with that, they launched themselves at the royal guards, guns blazing and fists flying. The battle was intense, with bullets whizzing through the air and punches landing with sickening thuds.

But Aegis and Jane fought on, determined to take down the royal guards and escape. They were a well-oiled machine, working together seamlessly as they took down guard after guard.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they emerged victorious. The royal guards lay defeated at their feet, and Aegis and Jane stood panting, their guns still smoking.

But as they caught their breath, Aegis couldn't shake the feeling that they were far from safe. The royal family would not take this defeat lightly, and they would stop at nothing to capture Aegis and Jane.

"We have to get out of here," Aegis said, his voice low and urgent. "Now."

Jane nodded, her eyes scanning the rooftops. "I see a way out," she said. "Follow me."

And with that, they took off, racing through the streets as they desperately sought to escape the royal family's clutches. But as they ran, Aegis couldn't help but wonder if they would ever be able to truly escape.

The royal family was powerful, and they would stop at nothing to capture Aegis and Jane. And as they ran, Aegis couldn't shake the feeling that they were running out of time.

Suddenly, Jane stopped, her eyes fixed on something in the distance. "Aegis, look," she whispered.

Aegis followed her gaze, his heart sinking as he saw a group of royal guards emerging from the shadows. They were surrounded, and there was no way out.

"It's over," Aegis said, his voice low and defeated.

But Jane just smiled, her eyes flashing with determination. "Not yet," she said.

And with that, she launched herself at the royal guards, her gun blazing. Aegis followed close behind, his own gun firing as they desperately fought to escape.

But as they fought, Aegis couldn't help but wonder if they would ever be able to truly escape. The royal family was too powerful, and they would stop at nothing to capture Aegis and Jane.

And as they fought, Aegis couldn't shake the feeling that they were fighting a losing battle.

Aegis stood at the edge of the village, his eyes scanning the thatched roofs and the bustling town square. He had been here for weeks, spreading dissent and fueling the flames of rebellion.

He had done it all without any supernatural abilities, relying instead on his charisma and acting skills to manipulate the villagers. He had played the part of a weary traveler, sharing tales of the royal family's corruption and greed.

The villagers had eaten it up, their faces twisted with anger and hatred as they listened to Aegis's stories. And now, as he stood at the edge of the village, he could see the fruits of his labor.

The villagers were gathered in the town square, their voices raised in defiance. "We will not be silenced!" one of them shouted, his fist raised in the air.

Aegis smiled, his eyes glinting with satisfaction. He had played them perfectly, using his acting skills to bring them to the brink of rebellion.

And now, it was time to let them take the reins. Aegis slipped away, unnoticed by the crowd. He had done his job, and now it was time to move on.

But as he walked away from the village, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had just unleashed a storm. The villagers were angry, and they would not be silenced.

Aegis wondered what would happen next. Would the villagers be able to overthrow the royal family, or would they be crushed beneath the heel of oppression?

He didn't know, but he did know one thing: he had played his part, and now it was time to let the villagers take center stage.

The villagers, fueled by their anger and determination, stormed the palace, determined to take down the royal family. Aegis and Jane watched from a distance, their eyes fixed on the chaos unfolding before them.

As the villagers clashed with the royal guards, the sound of screams and clashing steel filled the air. Aegis and Jane watched in horror as the villagers, undisciplined and untrained, were cut down by the better-armed and better-trained guards.

Despite their bravery, the villagers were no match for the royal guards. Half of them were killed in the initial clash, their bodies strewn across the palace grounds.

But the survivors refused to give up. Enraged by the death of their comrades, they launched a fierce counterattack, determined to take down the royal family.

The battle raged on for hours, the villagers fighting with every ounce of strength they had. But in the end, they were no match for the royal guards.

The revolution failed, the villagers forced to retreat in disarray. But the damage had been done. The royal family's grip on the kingdom had been weakened, their authority challenged.

Aegis and Jane watched as the survivors of the revolution limped away, their heads bowed in defeat. But Aegis knew that this was far from over.

The royal family would not forgive this challenge to their authority. They would strike back, harder and more ruthlessly than ever before.

And Aegis knew that he and Jane would be right in the middle of it.

As they turned to leave, Aegis heard a faint whisper in his ear. "You're next, Aegis."

Aegis spun around, but there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around him, echoing off the walls.

Jane's eyes locked onto his, her expression concerned. "What's wrong?" she asked.

Aegis's eyes scanned the surrounding area, his heart pounding in his chest. "I don't know," he said. "But I think we're in trouble."

And with that, the shadows seemed to deepen and darken around them, as if something was closing in.
