Chapter 631: -90- Fear
Scarlet and dark green faced each other, neither willing to yield.
In the sky, with Charlotte and the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, at the center, the entire firmament seemed to be enveloped in the two colors.
The vast Divine Mighty clashed against each other, the mere spillover was enough to render the surrounding humans and Half-Elves immobile, shivering with fear.
And at the focal point of the conflict, Charlotte felt her Divine Power rapidly draining away...
Her state, closely resembling the "True Ancestor Liberation," was not to mention how it differed from after the actual "True Ancestor Liberation," but at least in terms of Divine Power consumption, it was nearly on par.
Fortunately, although her Divine Power was depleting quickly, Charlotte, having merged two Faceless Divine Statues, ignited the Divine Fire, and opened a Divine Power pool, still had a considerable amount of Blood Divine Power left.
In terms of the amount of Divine Power stored, she could still hold on for a while if she pushed herself.
Not only that, but whether it was merely her own delusion or the truth, Charlotte always felt that when her Divine Power clashed with that of the opponent, hers seemed to be of a superior quality.
What's more, the "Devour" trait of Charlotte's Blood Divine Power seemed to be able to transform the opponent's Divine Power.
In her perception, she could completely transform the fringe Divine Power that the opponent dissipated, just like when she killed the Troll Knute.
However, Charlotte could only affect the fringe Divine Power.
The God in front of her had a much stronger grip on Divine Power; beyond those dissipating energies, Charlotte couldn't exert any influence on the other Divine Powers.
But this was already enough to leave Charlotte feeling astonished.
Looking at the unyielding Charlotte, the gaze of the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, became even more dangerous.
With a cold snort, the aura of Divine Power around Adora's body further intensified; the dark green clouds tumbled, and the restless Divine Power was like a volcano about to erupt.
However, Charlotte, having noticed a flash of surprise and wariness in her opponent's eyes earlier, did not submit but instead increased the output of her Divine Power as well, further strengthening her Majesty Skill to display a momentum almost identical to her opponent's.
When Gods stand off, it is the Mortals who suffer.
As Charlotte and Adora continued to raise their pressures, those unfortunate humans and Half-Elves couldn't withstand the force any longer and started passing out.
Only a very few powerful Transcendents were still struggling to hold on, but they had completely lost the ability to move, their hearts filled with shock.
In their perception, they felt like mere insects in the midst of an ocean storm, at any moment they could be killed by a single droplet of rain.
They had never imagined the chasm between Gods and Mortals to be so vast.
Charlotte's and her opponent's aura of Divine Power kept soaring.
And just as the surrounding elemental forces were stirred by Divine Power to the point of almost erupting at any time, and the tension between them was so thick that Charlotte could no longer be sure if the opponent was probing or truly wanted to fight, the aura of the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, finally ceased to rise.
Adora cast a deep look at Charlotte, swiftly reined in the terrifying display of Divine Mighty, and the large body gradually shrank down, finally becoming roughly the same size as Charlotte and descended to her level.
Squinting, Adora gazed at Charlotte, and the previously angry voice suddenly regained calm in an instant,
"I sense a familiar aura in you..."
"What is your relationship with Artemis, the Moon and Hunting Goddess, and Helios, the God of Sun and Light? Are you also a God who comes from the Land of Calamity? Have you also received the blessing of 'Origin'?"
Artemis, the Moon and Hunting Goddess?
A God from the Land of Calamity?
The blessing of Origin?
Charlotte was bewildered.
She knew of Artemis, who was the Main God for the Elves and also one of the known True Gods of the Mireya world.
She had heard for the first time of Helios, the God of Sun and Light, but since he could be mentioned alongside the Moon Goddess Artemis, he must also be a well-known True God, and considering the symmetry of the appellation with Artemis, he might also be one of the main gods the Elves once worshipped.
As for the God from the Land of Calamity...
Recalling the various legends about the origin of the Elf Clan, Charlotte had a vague guess.
As far as Charlotte knew, during the Mythological Era, Gods were almost clearly divided into three camps.
One was the Old Gods of Mireya, another was the Elf Gods who led the Elf Clan to Mireya, and then there were the New Gods that rose amidst the clash of the former two.
The Elf Clan had escaped to Mireya because of the destruction of the Old Continent, and "Mireya" in the Elven language meant "New Continent" and "New World."
Charlotte had even "seen" the Old Continent once during a previous "awakening".
It was a continent to the west of the Mireya Continent, with its center split by a massive circular Meteor sea, radiating in a broken pattern.
Combining the current statements of the God of Hatred and Deformation, could it be that the Gods from the Land of Calamity refer to those Gods from the old world?
Wait… That familiar aura, it couldn't be because of the elven bloodline in her body, right?
Because she sensed the elven bloodline, did the God of Hatred and Deformation mistake her for one of the Elf Gods who escaped from the Old Continent to Mireya?
But on the other hand, Charlotte's review of the documents on mythical legends did not seem to show the Old Gods of Mireya and the Elf Gods holding any animosity for each other.
The victors of the Mythological Era were the "New Gods" represented by the Blood True Ancestor.
So why did the God of Hatred and Deformation seem so wary of her?
What exactly was the blessing of "Origin"?
Charlotte was somewhat puzzled.
Nevertheless, she kept her composure.
She had questions, but she knew it was not the time to dig in.
But since the opponent had brought it up, she didn't mind asking a few questions in return, to see if she could pry out some interesting information…
The Mythical Era was full of secrets, and if she knew the secrets of the Mythological Era, perhaps she could also understand the truth about the Blood True Ancestor.
At this thought, Charlotte slowly withdrew her divine power.
She looked at the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, in surprise, and said softly,
"Oh? You also know about the Blessing of Origin?"
Upon hearing Charlotte's words, the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, gave a sneer,
"The 'blessing' that destroyed the Elf Continent, who doesn't know of it? You fled to this place, isn't it precisely because of this reason?"
"The Creator God had already prophesied, those who meddle with the taboo will surely suffer the backlash of the taboo. You initially ignored the Creator God's warning, coveting the origin of all things; it was inevitable that there would come a day like today!"
Good grief, had the Creator God Haral already come forth?
What exactly was the era she had crossed into this time?!
Charlotte was momentarily confused.
She had thought that her travel this time might continue from the last crossing, but now it seemed that might not be the case at all?
Could it be that this time she had crossed over to the period after the Blood True Ancestor's disappearance and the "resurgence" of the Creator God?
But... the term Northern Border, wasn't that what those human beings called the northwest of Mireya during the last crossing?
Or was it that it continued to be used for a thousand years thereafter?
Charlotte furrowed her brows.
With these thoughts, she looked at the mythical being before her, feigned surprise once again, and tentatively said without changing her expression,
"Oh? Is that so?"
"The Creator God... has already resurged?"
Hearing Charlotte's words, Adora was immediately stunned.
And observing Charlotte's serene appearance, as if she were just casually mentioning an acquaintance, Adora seemed to have imagined something else, her expression first filled with suspicion and then suddenly changed.
Adora subconsciously took a step back, looking at Charlotte with a gaze that suddenly became even more wary.
"Hmph! For the sake... of the Elf Gods, I will remember what happened today! On account of Your Majesty Artemis's sake, I will not pursue this further. But if there is a next time, I will make sure you understand the cost of offending me!"
Having said that, without waiting for Charlotte's reply, Adora withdrew her divine power, and her form quickly faded.
This sudden retreat left Charlotte stunned once more.
Wait...
She's leaving just like that?
Charlotte thought the God of Hatred and Deformation, Adora, would continue to probe, but then she just left?
She had killed his Divine Favored and slaughtered his followers! C-h@e#c+k My V%ir&t#ual L.ib+r@ar*y. E^mpir$e (MV@1L%EM$P1YR!) for the l&a!tes%t u!pda#tes*.!
With such a blow to the face, even if she had frightened him, wasn't his escape a bit too hasty?
Did she say something wrong just now?
What exactly... did he imagine in the end?
Charlotte was utterly bewildered.
However, combining the brief interaction with Adora, Charlotte felt that somehow he might have misunderstood her identity...
And the key seemed to be when she mentioned the "Creator God."
But regardless, Adora had left, and Charlotte couldn't very well chase after him to ask.
Now she felt even more puzzled about the era of her "awakening." She felt she must quickly figure out exactly when this era was.
Thinking this, Charlotte looked toward the battlefield on the ground, which was now unrecognizable.
She slowly withdrew divine power and descended to the ground, her form rapidly changing, quickly reverting to an "underage" appearance.
On the ground, human and half-elf bodies were strewn about, some still unconscious, while others, though conscious, still kept their eyes tightly closed, trembling, afraid to even take a glance at the sky.
Seeing the disheveled state of the people, Charlotte first invoked her divine power and cast a large-scale Dark Healing Technique, healing everyone's wounds, then spoke softly,
"He has already left. You are safe now; you can open your eyes."
Hearing Charlotte's voice and feeling their bodies rapidly recuperating, people hesitantly began to open their eyes.
Once again, their gazes fell on Charlotte.
This time, it was no longer curiosity and surprise they exhibited, but awe and gratitude.
"God... Lord God, I am Badak, the Legion Commander of the Third Legion from the Free City State. On behalf of the Free City State... I thank you for your help!"
The leader of the humans, clearly filled with nervousness, swallowed hard and respectfully made a bow toward Charlotte.
His legs were shaking rather badly, and his voice was quivering, a clear sign of both reverence and fear.
Charlotte sighed.
She once again exerted her power, quietly casting a spirit-calming magic spell to soothe everyone, then softly asked,
"I have been asleep for a very long time and have only recently awakened. May I know what era this is?"
The human leader paused, then answered reverently,
"Back... responding to the Lord God, it is the year 480 of the Apocalypse Era..."
