Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Being Practically Out Of The Abyss
The morning had arrived for the Romanos to carry out their plans to intercept the Bratva's weapons shipment and it was looming them as a foreboding reminder. The team had gathered at a warehouse on the outskirts of Trento to review maps, schedules and routes.
Luca stood at the table's head, his expression hard. "It's being moved by convoy tonight. They will hit the highway before taking the backroads around Lake Garda to try to evade detection. That's where we'll hit them."
Sofia made a face, arms crossed. "How many guards are we really expecting?"
Luca gestured to a map. "Two armored SUVS precede the truck, and soldiers follow behind. It'll be close, but if we hit the lead vehicles first, we can make them stop."
"We're going to need precision," Sofia said, glancing around at the group. "Penang: One fuck up and they know we're coming."
Luca nodded. "So Marco's intel is vital, and that's why. He is risking everything to bring us this information. We owe it to him to do it right."
Marco's Growing Doubts
Earlier, back at the Bratva compound, Marco got ready to hit the road with the convoy under Viktor's orders. His double loyalty was becoming a burden. One misstep could cost him his life as well as the Romanos'
Viktor stepped into the room, and he filled it. "Tonight is important, Marco. The Scarlattis have put their trust in us, and I expect nothing short of perfection. You're going to ride with me in the lead SUV."
Marco nodded stiffly, putting a lid on the wave of indecision rumbling in his guts. "Understood."
As the convoy was about to leave, Marco was able to message Luca one last time: Convoy leaving at 10 PM. They're going to be strapped to the teeth." Be ready.
The Ambush
The Romanos placed their trap on a narrow stretch of road close to the lake. 狄達,拉城,蘇身世隱藏在暗處,裝備高噸炮和炸藥 meaning "The backgrounds of Dida, Lacheng, and Su are hidden in the shadows, equipped with high-caliber cannons and explosives"
At 10:30 P.M., the roar of engines announced the convoy's arrival. The Romanos observed the lead SUV, then the truck, then the rear vehicles.
Luca signaled, and an explosive charge detonated under the first SUV, which flipped onto its side. The convoy ground to a halt, and pandemonium ensued.
Marco, who was in the lead vehicle, pretended to be disoriented as he crawled out from the wreckage. Viktor barked commands, his voice slicing through the chaos.
"We're under attack! Secure the shipment!"
The Romanos opened fire as they made their attack. Sofia and her team set their sights on the guards surrounding the truck, while Luca turned his attention to disabling the SUVs behind the truck.
Marco made the most of the confusion, killing a Bratva soldier and grabbing his weapon. He headed over to the truck, where Luca had already opened up the cargo hold.
"We've got to be quick," Marco said, shielding Luca as he checked the shipment.
Crates of high-grade weaponry glittered in the low light. Luca nodded. "This is it. Let's blow the truck and get the fuck out of here."
The Cost of Victory
As the Romanos loaded explosives into the truck, Viktor recognized Marco's betrayal. From his vantage point slightly above the wrecked SUV, he saw Marco struggling next to Luca. Fury twisted his features as he cried out to his men, "Slay the traitor!"
A hail of bullets poured down on Marco and Luca's position. Sofia covered fire, but the Bratva had too many numbers.
"Go!" Marco shouted, pushing Luca toward the woods. "I'll hold them off!"
Luca hesitated briefly, but the urgency in Marco's voice compelled him to back down.
The truck detonated in an enormous fireball, making the earth tremble as nothing else does in the night. The Romanos fled into the woods, a trail of destruction in their wake.
Marco, wounded but still alive, was captured by Viktor's men and taken back to the compound.
The Aftermath
At the Romanos' villa with pz, Luca and Sofia escaped to their team. The loss of the shipment had dealt a critical blow to the Bratva-Scarlatti alliance, but the price had been steep.
"We have to get Marco back," Sofia said, her voice steady. "We can't leave him with Viktor."
Luca nodded, with a pained look on his face. "We will. But we have to be smart about it. Viktor will be expecting us."
While they decided on their next move, fate belonged to Viktor and Marco in uncertain hands. The betrayal had been revealed, and retribution from the Bratva would be swift and merciless.
A New Storm Brews
The destruction of the shipment reverberated through the criminal underworld. The Scarlattis were livid, furious over the failure and blaming the Bratva. The fragile alliance fell apart, leaving both factions exposed.
But for the Romanos, it was a hollow victory. But Marco was with the enemy, and they could not think of anything but saving him.
The war was far from over, and the next move would seal the fate of them all.
for granted. Now, all of that seemed like a distant dream.
