Born by the Flame of the Dragon

Chapter 12: The Rise of Fire and Blood (Continued)

At that same moment, the human armies were already in formation. The nine kingdoms had united, bringing together every last troop they had. Their backs were against the wall. They knew they had no future if the mythical creatures broke through the barrier. They'd seen what those beings were capable of. If they reached the cities, the villages, the heartlands there would be nothing left. No homes. No safety. No hope. There was nowhere to run.

The only option left was to fight.

Even knowing the odds were against them, the armies chose to stand their ground. They said to themselves, "Better to fall in battle than to wait for death doing nothing."

So the fields were lined with soldiers, bracing for war.

On the other side, the dragons and all the mythical creatures had declared their intent. They would not return to the shadows. They would not go back to the tombs or the magical seals that had imprisoned them for a thousand years. This was their time to rise. Anyone who stood in their way would be destroyed.

High above the clouds, John and Martha raced toward the battleground on the back of the dragon queen. The wind howled around them, but John felt something deeper—a sense of destiny. The dragon flew faster than anything he had ever imagined, cutting through the sky like lightning.

As they neared, the chaos had already begun. Dragons swooped down from the skies, their mouths spewing fire. The front lines of the human troops were engulfed. Flames rained down like a storm, turning rows of soldiers into ashes within minutes. It was brutal.

By the time John arrived, nearly a quarter of the troops had fallen. The destruction was unbearable.

But something shifted.

The moment the dragon queen descended onto the battlefield, everything paused. The other dragons, the mythical creatures, saw her. For a second, they hesitated.

They hadn't expected to see her.

They hadn't expected to see their queen.

In their world, the dragon queen held power equal, if not greater, than the dragon king. She was the heartbeat of the old order. When they saw her, many bowed instinctively. Reverence filled the air.

But then they noticed something else: humans on her back.

And confusion turned to rage.

To them, it seemed she had betrayed them, sided with their enemies. Without warning, a group of dragons charged, fire blazing, attacking the queen herself.

The flames exploded against her wings as she landed hard. John jumped off her back and raised his hand instinctively.

At that exact moment, the first dragon charging at him collapsed to the ground before it could even strike.

Silence followed.

John had no idea what he'd done.

But the dragons knew.

The king had returned.

The one from the prophecy. The one with the power to unite or to destroy. To forgive or to seal them away again. It was now up to John.

Half of both the human and mythical forces had already been decimated. Tension crackled in the air.

John stepped forward, heart pounding.

Then he spoke.

Words spilt from his mouth, ancient, commanding phrases he had never learned. But the moment he spoke to them, every mythical creature bowed. Even those still behind the barriers, trapped on the other side, sensed it.

Their king had arrived.

From the human side, there was stunned disbelief. The kings and queens of the nine kingdoms, along with their armies, could not comprehend what they were witnessing. A human, standing before dragons and otherworldly creatures, and all of them knelt before him.

"Who is he?" they whispered among themselves.

"Where has he been all this time?"

John didn't stop.

He addressed the creatures. "You were locked away for a thousand years. Because of my birth, you've returned. And I stand before you with pride. But today is not the day we create more pain. Today is not the day we begin another war. Today, we correct what was broken. We reunite with humankind."

He turned to the dragons. "We are not here to destroy. We are here to rebuild. To rule together."

Hearing these words, the dragon king himself stepped forward. In that moment, he knew: this was the kind of ruler he had waited for.

Slowly, the human leaders approached. Cautiously. Fear still gripped them. But as they drew closer, their fear turned to awe.

The queen of the central kingdom, who had once ordered John's capture, was the first to step forward. Trembling, she knelt before him.

"Yes, my king. We are ready to be led by you. I offer you my crown, and with it, my kingdom."

One by one, the other rulers followed.

Their soldiers did the same.

And there, in the heart of the battlefield, the prophecy came to life.

A king who could unite the humans and the mythical creatures. A bridge between two worlds.

John stood at the centre of it all, overwhelmed, unsure of what to say.

He simply took a step back.

For the first time, both sides knelt in peace.

And the war that had been brewing for centuries finally paused... at the feet of a young man born of fire and blood.
