Chapter 591: Too adult to be young.
Arwen was caught off guard —not just by his words but by his eyes. Her heart skipped a beat when she stared into his dark pair of brown orbs.
His eyes have always dazzled her, but today it felt like they could make her go rationally blind.
Did this man even know he had got one of the most mesmerizing eyes in the world?
"You want me to stay back with you?" she asked him, waiting for him to be more direct and clearer with his demand. She would be willing to fulfil it as long as he put it forth to her.
Aiden stared at her, his gaze meeting hers, clearly fighting to decide. "If you have something important to do at the company, I don't want to hold you back."
And there he went again. Thinking about her.
Is it truly that difficult for him to think about himself first?
She sighed, shaking her head internally. Then, taking a deep breath, she said, "I do have something to attend to at the company." And the moment she mentioned that, she felt his grip loosen around her hand, as if he was willing to let go. "But it's nothing so important that can't be postponed for a day or two. So …"
She paused, looking down at the hand that he was about to let go. Wrapping the fingers of her other hand around his, she made him hold her back, firmly, before continuing, "… if you say you would get bored alone at home and want me to take off for you today, I don't mind."
Her lips curled again when she felt him adjusting his hand to hold her tighter once again. Gazing at him, she arched his brows at him. "So, tell me, are you saying it to me or not?"
His lips twitched in a faint smirk.
"What?" she shook her head, denying, "I don't take expressions as answers. Put it in words so that I can be sure of … what you want." \\
They have played enough games of assumptions. Now it was time for them to step ahead and be unapologetically unhesitant.
If not him, she would love to begin.
"I would be bored alone," Aiden said, finally. "Don't go out today. Stay with me."
Arwen's lips tilted up in a smile. But mocking haughtiness, she shrugged. "Sure, I don't mind staying back with my husband." Then, letting her tone return to usual softness, she smiled and added, "It would be more like a pleasure to me."
Time slowed a little, and they stared into each other's eyes.
At a distance, not far from them, Mr. Jones stood with a tablet in his hand, focusing its camera towards the couple.
"Old Master," he whispered, addressing the old man who was there on the video call, watching everything live. "You don't need to worry anymore. The temperature has long subsided, and the young master is better now. He had had his medicines already, and the young mistress had been very meticulous in taking care of him."
Morgan laughed on the other side of the screen. "I can see it with my own eyes," he had worried for nothing the entire night. If he knew a sickness of one night would bring back the side Aiden lost too early in his age —he would have prayed for it to come sooner.
But then, he knew everything had its own right time.
If not, Arwen would never have appeared back in Aiden's life. She appeared to bring him back what he lost —to bring back the happiness that only she could bring to his world.
"Master, is there anything you order?" the butler asked when he didn't hear the old man speaking even after a long while.
Morgan shook his head. "Let them enjoy their time together. You just take care of them from a distance."
"Got it," Jones nodded, and the call was soon disconnected.
Morgan took a deep breath before looking at Willian, who stood on his side.
"What's wrong, William?" he asked, arching a brow at him. "You looked quite shocked?"
The old butler's brows furrowed, and with an indecipherable expression, he asked, "How can I not be shocked, sir? I have never seen the young master acting like that. He has always been —"
"Too adult to be young." Morgan helped him finish the phrase.
William nodded. All that he has ever remembered is Aiden shouldering the responsibilities —big or small —all by himself, irrelevant of his age. He might not have arrived at the house as a young child, but even teens were too early.
Yet he managed his age like age had never been a factor for him. He handled life and business as a man who had overnight matured to face the world. And for that reason, seeing him for the first time acting like a kid seeking someone's love, attention and care felt different.
"William," Morgan spoke slowly. "Aiden has also been a kid. It's just that after his mother died; he lost the one person he could act like a child around. He trusted anyone else enough to seek their love, and affection. Arwen is the only other person he treats the same —he treats her like family. So, don't be surprised. This is normal."
Although this stung, Morgan had never been a person to deny the reality. The reality in which his grandson never considered him or anyone else as his family. Aiden was respectful towards him, but he knew that was only because Morwenna wanted him like that.
Sighing, he took in a deep breath. "Did you arrange everything?" he asked, only to see William nod back to her. "Good, then, we would be leaving soon."

Beach on the other side, in late afternoon, Arwen was sitting with Aiden in the home theatre, watching a movie, when she heard her phone vibrate.
Seeing Mia's name flash on the screen, she frowned and excused herself to take the call.
But her expression twisted when she heard her speak on the other side of the line. "Reject him and ask him to leave," she said before hanging up.
Aiden noticed the displeasure on her face and asked with quite sombreness. "Who was it?"
