Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Xiao Yan vs Hai Bodong
"You're courting death!" Hai Bodong's voice turned icy when he saw Xiao Yan brazenly declaring that he was going to take the map fragment and actually make a move. In his murky eyes, a terrifying killing intent surged.
As a former Dou Huang powerhouse, Hai Bodong naturally had his pride. Back in his prime, no one dared to forcibly take anything from him. Though his strength had now been sealed, the pride of a Dou Huang still lingered. Xiao Yan's actions were a blatant provocation that crossed his bottom line.
"Hand over the map fragment now, and I'll let you leave in peace." Hai Bodong tapped his finger lightly on a mechanism embedded in the counter. The once-open shop doors slammed shut on their own, and a chilling, oppressive aura exploded from his body, surging toward Xiao Yan like a crashing wave.
But such pressure meant nothing to Xiao Yan. If Hai Bodong were still in his prime, this aura might have posed a challenge. But now, with his strength sealed and barely at the Dou Ling level, Xiao Yan could handle him with ease—after all, he could defeat Dou Lings even when he was a mere Dou Shi.
"Spare me the pointless talk. If you want the map, then come take it yourself." Xiao Yan chuckled as he casually waved his hand. The cold air filling the shop due to Hai Bodong's aura instantly dispersed, leaving not a trace behind.
"You arrogant brat!" Hai Bodong growled in fury. Though his cultivation had regressed, he wouldn't allow just any punk to tread on his dignity. With a sneer, his figure transformed into a white blur and dashed toward Xiao Yan. But as his strike hit, it passed clean through Xiao Yan's body.
"A residual image?" Hai Bodong's eyes narrowed. Just as he turned to locate his true opponent, a fierce gust blasted from behind. Alarmed, he swiftly formed a hand seal and summoned a massive translucent ice mirror in front of him. "Ice Mirror!"
Crack!
The instant the ice mirror formed, a fist shattered it with overwhelming force. The powerful impact flung Hai Bodong backward like a ragdoll. He barely stabilized himself before a metallic taste rose in his throat, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
After breaking Hai Bodong's defense with a single blow, Xiao Yan shook his hand idly. He was honestly bored. The current Hai Bodong was, at best, an ordinary Dou Ling—not even at the peak. He didn't even need to unleash a Dou Technique; raw strength was enough.
In contrast to Xiao Yan's nonchalance, Hai Bodong was completely shaken. From their brief exchange, he realized this youth's strength was well beyond his current state. But how could that be? The boy looked no older than fifteen, yet already possessed Dou Ling-level power?
"Old man, I suggest you quit now. If this drags on, your little shop might not survive the aftermath." Xiao Yan's voice was calm, even friendly, but the meaning behind it sent a fresh wave of anger surging through Hai Bodong.
"You think I can't deal with a little brat like you?!" Hai Bodong snarled. Another surge of cold energy radiated from his body. Above his head, hundreds of icy spiral needles formed, spinning at high speed and emitting eerie whistling noises. In the next moment, they rained down toward Xiao Yan like a blizzard of daggers.
"What a boring fight." Watching the icy projectiles speed toward him from every angle, Xiao Yan didn't even flinch. He simply stood there, completely at ease. The moment the projectiles reached him, they shattered on their own as if repelled by an invisible barrier.
This bizarre scene made Hai Bodong's pupils contract sharply. The boy's strength had far exceeded his expectations, yet he refused to concede. Gritting his teeth, he formed a new hand seal, and the surrounding cold energy condensed rapidly before him. Countless razor-sharp ice blades began to take shape, floating in the air like swords drawn for war.
As the hand seals grew increasingly complex, the number of ice blades multiplied, eventually creating a barrier that fully enclosed Hai Bodong's figure. He was preparing one of his most powerful attacks: Mystic Ice Spiral Execution, a High Profound Rank Dou Technique. In his prime, few dared to face it head-on. Even now, he believed it would force Xiao Yan to treat him seriously.
"Are you done yet? If so, go ahead and attack," Xiao Yan said lazily, stretching as if he were just waking from a nap.
"You little bastard!" Hai Bodong erupted in fury. With a roar, all the ice blades shot forward and merged midair, forming a gigantic cyclone made entirely of ice blades. It tore through the room with terrifying momentum, sharp enough to shred even peak Dou Lings to pieces.
But it was useless against Xiao Yan.
Facing the whirling storm of icy blades, Xiao Yan extended a single hand and slowly clenched his fingers.
The roaring storm suddenly froze in place.
Hai Bodong tried desperately to command the blades to move, but they didn't budge.
Xiao Yan looked at him and chuckled. "Looks flashy, but that's all it is."
With a faint pulse of energy, the frozen vortex exploded into countless shards. In the glittering rain of broken ice, Xiao Yan casually clapped his hands.
"Old man, you've lost."
"Rubbish! I haven't lost! I can still—"
Before Hai Bodong could finish, a searing pain spread through his limbs. Startled, he looked down and saw that the floor beneath him was covered in threads of purple-black flame. The threads had silently crept up to bind his hands and feet. They pulsed with heat, sending searing pain into his limbs.
One wrong move, and he would be incinerated on the spot.
Hai Bodong froze. These threads—what kind of terrifying flame were they made from?
"I suggest you calm down." Xiao Yan's voice was calm but carried an edge. "If I wanted to kill you, you'd already be ash."
Hai Bodong's expression shifted several times. The arrogance and fury in his eyes slowly gave way to something more subdued—doubt, confusion, and perhaps… a hint of admiration.
"Who are you?" he asked hoarsely.
"A passerby looking for a map piece." Xiao Yan's smile was as light as ever.
