Chapter 173: Kikuchi Sonoka Kidnapped
Totsuki Academy is a renowned culinary school, famous in the culinary world. Due to its quality and reputation, nearly every aspiring young chef dreams of enrolling to become a world-class chef.
Admission to Totsuki is a great honor, a gateway to limitless opportunities. Parents are even willing to beg or offer their entire savings to secure a spot for their children, though such offers are always rejected.
Each year, around 1,000 students begin their first year of high school at Totsuki Academy. Of those, only about 100 survive to advance to the second year, and fewer than 10 graduate by the end of their third year.
With less than 1% of students typically completing Totsuki's three-year culinary education, its alumni are the most skilled and sought-after chefs in the world.
Kikuchi Sonoka is one such graduate from last year. As a former Second Seat of the 89th Generation's Elite Ten, her culinary skills are beyond question.
After graduating, she decided to open a Western-style restaurant named Shunkatei in Tokyo's Shibuya district.
Though Shunkatei hasn't been open for a full year, it's never short of customers. Sonoka's Western dishes captivate the palates of patrons from all walks of life.
Closing at 9:30 PM, Sonoka looked pleased but exhausted. A thin layer of sweat glistened on her forehead after a full day of serving customers and cooking.
"Alright, let's head home and sleep. Gotta wake up early to prep for tomorrow's opening."
Her large, ample breasts swayed slightly with each step.
It wasn't uncommon for her to see drunken salarymen sprawled on the sidewalk or young girls curled up asleep in front of closed shops.
They were troubled kids, some likely runaways. She felt sympathy but knew she was powerless to help everyone.
"Haah…" Sonoka sighed deeply as she walked toward the station.
"Rokuhara-sama's visit to Shunkatei this afternoon really shocked me. Someone as great as him dining at my restaurant—it's an honor no less than hosting a country's president, right?"
Sonoka was still replaying her afternoon encounter with Ren.
The powerful aura he exuded was unlike that of any ordinary customer. There was something mystical, terrifying, yet captivating about the young man.
"Campione… So the world holds terrifying secrets. We ordinary people live in blissful ignorance."
Sonoka now understood the saying that ignorance is bliss.
If the public knew about the mystical side of the world, their lives might not be as peaceful. The supernatural realm of Campiones, Heretic Gods, and the Mage Association was a hidden reality not everyone needed to know.
◆━⊰✧⊱━◆
Passing through a deserted street with no one around, Sonoka began to feel uneasy.
She quickened her pace, but suddenly, a black sedan stopped beside her. Four masked men leapt out, rushing toward her with coordinated movements.
"Huh? Wait—"
Sonoka stepped back, eyes wide with fear.
"Help—"
Before she could scream, one of the masked men covered her mouth with a cloth. The other three lifted her and shoved her into the car.
"Mmphh! Mmphhh!"
Sonoka struggled desperately, but the four kidnappers were far stronger.
A kidnapping she'd only seen in movies was now happening to her. Trembling with fear, tears streamed down her face. Her hands and feet were bound with rope, her mouth sealed with duct tape.
'Why is this happening to me? Who are they? What do they want?' She thought in panic.
"We got her. The boss will be pleased." One kidnapper said, checking a photo on his phone.
"Yeah, this girl's the perfect target. Pretty, young, and high-value." Another added, eyeing Sonoka with a chilling gaze.
"…?!"
In her despair, the image of a handsome young man flashed in Sonoka's mind.
A figure radiating strength, making anyone near him feel safe.
'Someone, please help me…'
'Rokuhara-sama…'
"You called?"
Suddenly, a handsome young man appeared out of nowhere inside the car, as if materializing from thin air.
It was none other than Rokuhara Ren, the Seventh Campione!
"Mphmmm—!!!"
Sonoka's eyes widened in shock and disbelief as Ren appeared, answering her inner plea.
It felt like a fairy tale, where a prince on a white horse saves a damsel in distress.
"Where'd this guy come from?!" The driver shouted, losing control of the car in his shock.
"Who cares?! Get rid of him!" Barked another kidnapper, pulling out a knife.
Startled by the extra passenger, the driver ordered his accomplices to deal with Ren.
A fierce fight broke out in the cramped car… at least, from the kidnappers' perspective. For Ren, a Campione, defeating them was effortless.
"Damn it! What kind of monstrous strength is this?!" One kidnapper yelled as Ren easily blocked his punch.
*THUD!*
With a single strike, the first kidnapper was thrown against the car's wall, knocked out cold.
"Die!"
The second kidnapper lunged with a knife, but Ren caught his wrist and snapped it with ease.
"AAAAHHH!"
The remaining two attacked together, but Ren moved with near-invisible speed.
*BAM!* *BAM!*
In seconds, both were sprawled unconscious.
"Impossible… who are you?" The driver stammered, trembling in fear.
"Someone you shouldn't have messed with." Ren replied, placing a hand on the driver's shoulder.
*THUD!*
The driver passed out instantly.
After knocking out the driver with a single jolt, Ren parked the car on the roadside before freeing Sonoka from her restraints.
"Rokuhara-sama… Wuwuwu…!"
Regaining her freedom, Sonoka threw herself into Ren's arms. Her pent-up tears flowed freely, a mix of fear, relief, and overwhelming emotions.
What normal woman wouldn't be terrified after an attempted kidnapping?
Though Sonoka was the Second Seat of the 89th Generation's Elite Ten at Totsuki, her personality wasn't that of a fighter but gentle and polite. Her reaction was deeply human.
"It's okay, everything's fine now. I'm here."
With a soft voice, Ren stroked Sonoka's hair.
Feeling her massive breasts press against his chest, Ren had to suppress his rising libido to avoid ruining the moment.
"I… I was so scared, Rokuhara-sama. They… they wanted to…"
"Shh, you don't need to talk about it now. You're safe."
Cutting off Sonoka's sobs, Ren tightened his embrace.
'The hero-saves-the-beauty trope is cliché, but its effectiveness is undeniable.' He thought, hiding a faint smile.
Sonoka's kidnapping was no coincidence. It was all part of Ren's plan to make her fall for him!
First, he deliberately visited Shunkatei to leave an impression on Sonoka. With his power and aura as a Campione, she wouldn't forget him easily.
Second, when Sonoka was kidnapped and felt despair, she would naturally think of the strongest person who could save her.
Who was that? Of course, Ren!
The moment Sonoka thought of him and called his name in her heart, Ren could teleport using Divine Authority Revelry's Gate, triggered by her call.
"Rokuhara-sama… How did you know I was in danger?" Sonoka asked after her tears subsided.
"Let's just say… I have a special way of knowing when someone important to me is in trouble."
"Important… to you?"
Sonoka's face flushed at Ren's blunt words.
"Of course. The delicious food you made this afternoon still lingers on my tongue. I couldn't let those talented hands be harmed by lowlifes like them."
"Ah…"
Sonoka looked down shyly, her heart racing at Ren's praise.
'Yes, this is what I was aiming for! The suspension bridge effect!' Ren cheered inwardly.
The suspension bridge effect is a psychological phenomenon where someone feels more attracted to another person in a tense or thrilling situation, like on a swaying bridge. The fear or excitement can be mistaken for romantic attraction.
"Now, let me take you home. It's late, and you need rest. As for these guys, I've already contacted the police."
Removing his jacket, Ren draped it over Sonoka's shoulders.
"Th-thank you, Rokuhara-sama."
Sonoka buried her face in the jacket, inhaling its masculine scent.
As they walked together through Tokyo's now-safer streets, Sonoka didn't realize her fate had just changed forever.
