Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 315 - Forced to Endure

When Ruo Manni said she would do everything in her power to help the B City survivor base through its crisis, Lin Kexin was naturally delighted.

Lin Ruihai and Song Changlong might not fully understand how strong Ruo Manni was, but Lin Kexin did.

“Perhaps destiny intends for you to be the savior,” Lin Kexin remarked with a sigh.

“Destiny likely created more than just the two of us as variables. With our power alone, it’s impossible to save the world.”

Ruo Manni didn’t believe she was capable of such a monumental task. The true savior would likely be someone of great importance, like the Crown Prince, Xiahai Adam.

“At the very least, your presence ensures the safety of the B City survivor base. And at the very least, you saved Song Changlong and thwarted certain people’s schemes,” Lin Kexin said. Thinking about it made her angry—she wasn’t going to let those responsible off the hook.

“Was there something behind Song Changlong’s danger yesterday? Did someone plot against him?” Ruo Manni asked.

To her, Song Changlong was also like a brother. If it hadn’t been for her group yesterday, he might have met with disaster. If someone truly orchestrated the incident, Ruo Manni wouldn’t let them off either.

Lin Kexin told Ruo Manni that earlier that morning, she discovered someone spreading rumors in the base, claiming that Song Changlong’s group had been wiped out last night by a fourth-tier mutant snake.

Ruo Manni immediately recalled the group they encountered in the morning and remembered their mention of a “prophetic dream.”

“It’s very likely that they didn’t manipulate events themselves, but that someone among them is a reborn individual,” Ruo Manni speculated. “This morning, we ran into a convoy on the road, and I overheard people in one of the vehicles saying their leader’s wife has very accurate prophetic dreams.”

Lin Kexin was both surprised and not entirely surprised. “This morning, I looked into it and found out that the rumors were spread by the base’s largest mercenary group, the Tiger Mercenary Group. I think they did it intentionally to create a narrative.”

“The people in that convoy were shocked to see Song Changlong alive,” Ruo Manni said. “From what they said, it seems they were planning to take over Song Changlong’s supplies. If we hadn’t saved him yesterday, they likely wouldn’t have escaped the mutant snake attack. Without their deaths, no one would be in immediate control of the supplies from those dozen vehicles.”

Hearing this, Lin Kexin became furious. “Let’s check with the base guards to see who left the base early this morning.”

Realizing the gravity of the situation, the two girls decided not to continue discussing it in private and left the living room.

While Lin Kexin asked Lin Ruihai to send someone to investigate which mercenary groups had left the base early that morning, Ruo Manni sat beside Hebrew Adam and whispered to him.

“Hebrew, you know I can’t just stand by and do nothing,” Ruo Manni said.

While Ruo Manni had resolved to use her abilities to help her brother and the base, she knew she couldn’t make decisions on behalf of her other companions. So, she told Hebrew Adam about her decision, leaving it up to him and the others to decide whether they wanted to help as well.

“As long as you stick to our plan and return to the interstellar era when the time comes, you can handle the rest however you like. But remember, our main goal is training and growth. We can’t let other matters delay us too much,” Hebrew Adam replied.

Hebrew Adam had anticipated Ruo Manni’s intentions and had been thinking about their next steps while sitting there.

“You should know that I’m not the real Hua De Manni,” Ruo Manni said.

Hebrew Adam frowned and replied, “All of your achievements are because of your own hard work and effort. What the Hua De family gave you is far less than what you’ve given them. Even if you don’t want to acknowledge them, they wouldn’t let you go, considering you’re still related to them by blood.”

Ruo Manni looked at him, realizing he clearly hadn’t understood what she meant.

“Don’t you think we’re no longer suited for each other—”

Before she could finish her sentence, Hebrew Adam’s expression darkened. He grabbed her arm and asked, “Do you have someone else in this world?”

“No, I’m just saying that my identity and yours are not the same,” Ruo Manni quickly denied.

When Hebrew Adam said this, the look he gave Song Changlong carried a trace of killing intent. It was unclear why he had suddenly become suspicious of Song Changlong.

“You are my fiancée, my future wife, and none of that is going to change. Once we return, we’ll get married as soon as possible,” Hebrew Adam declared firmly.

Seeing Hebrew Adam’s unwavering attitude, Ruo Manni was actually satisfied. If his feelings for her could waver because of her change in identity, no matter how heartbroken she might be, she would have left him without hesitation.

“What are you two talking about?” Lin Ruihai walked over, frowning.

Lin Ruihai, seeing the Second Prince of that so-called empire angry at his sister, couldn’t suppress his own temper and wanted to step forward.

Lin Kexin stopped him and whispered that it was because Ruo Manni had brought up the matter of annulling their engagement, which had upset the prince. Only then did Lin Ruihai manage to suppress his anger, though he was still visibly displeased.

What Lin Kexin said to Lin Ruihai seemed perfectly reasonable and explained why Hebrew Adam was angry. However, there was an underlying tone that was hard to miss, something subtle and ambiguous.

Hebrew Adam glanced at Lin Kexin. He could tell this girl really disliked him.

He speculated that Ruo Manni must have fully explained Lin Kexin’s background to her. The girl’s current circumstances were largely the result of mistakes his mother had made. Her resentment towards him was understandable. If she wanted to set traps for him or make things difficult, Hebrew Adam felt he had no choice but to accept it.

Because of Ruo Manni and his mother’s wrongdoing, as long as Lin Kexin didn’t harbor murderous intentions towards him or actively target Ruo Manni, he would endure whatever came his way.

As for Lin Ruihai, if not for this unique connection, Hebrew Adam wouldn’t have cared about him at all. However, because of Ruo Manni, he not only had to take this man seriously but also maintain a peaceful relationship with him.

Thus, Hebrew Adam stated plainly, “The relationship between Ruo Manni and me will not change because of her identity.”

Lin Ruihai, hearing this, was at a loss for words. Although he found the Second Prince’s arrogance irritating, the man wasn’t letting Ruo Manni’s change in identity affect his feelings. What could he say to that? He certainly couldn’t get angry over it.

“Brother, let me show you a document,” Ruo Manni said, naturally stepping in to smooth things over and shift the topic.

Since her identity was exposed, Ruo Manni no longer needed to be secretive. She activated her light brain and shared the apocalyptic strategy post in shared mode.

As expected, Lin Ruihai and Song Changlong had not seen this post before. Their expressions grew extremely serious as they read it.

“We need to gather supplies for surviving the harsh winter as soon as possible,” Lin Ruihai decided immediately.

With the precedent of his two sisters’ soul-swapping and rebirth, Lin Ruihai instantly recognized the high likelihood of the post being authentic. It was likely written by someone with a very unique background.

“The biggest shortage in our base is winter survival supplies,” Song Changlong said after some thought.

After the repeated shattering of his worldview today, Song Changlong had become much more accepting of things that defied scientific logic. Coupled with the fact that the earlier predictions in the post had already come true, he had no doubts about the accuracy of the upcoming predictions.

In the face of such a major catastrophe, failing to prepare in advance would cost countless lives. This was something they absolutely could not afford to ignore.
