Chapter 326
“It’s only mid-November, and even in the south, it’s already starting to snow. I can’t even imagine how cold it must be in the northwest. Ziyan is especially afraid of the cold,” said Mrs. Li, looking at the heavy snow outside, which looked like cotton drifting down. She couldn’t hide the worry in her voice.
Mrs. Li had once been a strong, successful woman, working with great distinction in a state-owned enterprise. Now, she looked like an elderly woman bent by the weight of life, melancholic and weary.
Indeed, her career had completely collapsed during the apocalypse. Her only daughter was thousands of miles away, with no news of her whereabouts, and her fate unknown. With no hope left in life, Mrs. Li spent her days sitting and staring out the window, hoping for a change, hoping her daughter would return.
But in B City, where snow was a rare occurrence, it was already snowing in mid-November. Clearly, the situation had not improved; it had only worsened.
Seeing his wife like this and thinking of his daughter so far away, Colonel Li’s heart ached as if it were being torn apart. He hated his own helplessness.
At the beginning of the apocalypse, to save civilians, Colonel Li had been bitten on his right hand by a zombie. In order to survive, he had to cut off his own hand.
Now, in his weakened state, where he couldn’t even kill a single zombie, the thought of going to the northwest to find his daughter seemed like a dream. Although he would risk his life to save her, he knew that if he left now, he would never make it to the northwest. It was better to hold on to his life and wait for a chance.
But the situation continued to worsen. Not only was he unable to organize a team to go to the northwest, but even though he was still called “commander” and allowed to live in a small villa with enough food and drink, it was all because his son-in-law was holding power in the base and supporting him and his wife.
His son-in-law was willing to go to the northwest to find his daughter, but his daughter’s in-laws strongly opposed it. Colonel Li understood that, although his son-in-law was strong, the journey was too long, and the chances of survival were slim. Everyone loved their own children, and Colonel Li didn’t blame his in-laws. Instead, he sided with them, using responsibility to keep Lin Ruihai at the B City base.
Colonel Li knew that his wife didn’t speak of it, but she was upset with him, accusing him of favoring his son-in-law over their daughter. But he thought, a son-in-law couldn’t just abandon his parents, could he? If anyone was to blame, it was the harsh world they lived in.
The two elderly people didn’t realize that at this very moment, their long-missed daughter was walking towards them, just less than two hundred meters away, in a villa.
It was rare for Ruo Manni to sleep in, and although she had slept in, she hadn’t actually slept much. After all, Hebrew Adam had gotten his wish last night and had been hungry for so long that he couldn’t stop at just a little.
Being young and in good physical condition made all the difference. After a whole night of activity, Hebrew Adam only slept for a little over three hours. When he woke up, he felt a sense of satisfaction and a refreshed mood that was obvious to anyone who looked at him.
Ruo Manni didn’t feel exaggeratedly tired either, just a lazy, full feeling. However, she was a bit shy, and even though no one suspected that it was the first time the two of them had been intimate, she felt guilty. Though she tried hard to keep a composed face and not show any embarrassment, her flushed cheeks betrayed her.
Hebrew Adam had never seen Ruo Manni look so delicate and charming. With the deepened intimacy between them, he couldn’t help but gaze at her face constantly, appearing like a lovesick fool with no trace of the noble prince he once was.
Their companions quickly noticed the different atmosphere between them. However, as elite members who didn’t understand the concept of shyness, and since the two were already engaged, no one suspected what had happened between them the previous night. They just thought the atmosphere between them felt odd.
Hua Deli, though, was fine. While he didn’t fully understand what had happened, he could see that his sister and Hebrew Adam had a closeness and affection that was hard to miss. Their relationship was clearly very strong, so he didn’t ask any questions.
“Cousin, your face is so red. Are you feeling unwell? Why aren’t you taking your medicine?” Dean Atchison asked with concern.
Ruo Manni felt her face heat up even more and glared at her clueless cousin. “Why aren’t you practicing? Why are you bothering us in our car?”
Dean Atchison felt completely innocent. Wasn’t he just concerned about his cousin? Why was she glaring at him?
“It’s been a long time since we’ve had good food. What happened to the couple we rescued on the road? Should we have them cook for us?” Dean Atchison said, feeling a bit wronged.
Though the jerky was tasty, eating it every day got tiresome. After practicing to exhaustion every day, he really missed hot, freshly cooked meals. But among all of them, only his cousin could cook. Unless she willingly volunteered to cook, no one dared ask her to be the cook—otherwise, they’d surely get beaten by the second prince.
When Dean Atchison said this, Ruo Manni finally remembered the couple, Wang Miaomiao and the other person. After arriving at the B City base, she had been so busy with everything that she had completely forgotten about them.
However, Wang Miaomiao has a space ring, so they have food and drink, and both of them are ability users, so their daily life shouldn’t be hard.
“If you want, you can go find them and ask,” Ruo Manni had no objections.
Wang Miaomiao’s cooking skills were really good, and the alien group found her dishes delicious. Ruo Manni could eat at home and even bring Hebrew Adam along with no problem.
But she couldn’t keep taking her friends to eat there every day. Cooking for so many people would surely wear out her parents.
Dean Atchison got Ruo Manni’s permission and happily ran off to find them.
When the “golden thigh” showed up, Wang Miaomiao and Liu Yang immediately agreed. Not only because of the life-saving favor, but also because, despite their apparent stature, these people were actually easy to care for. Whatever was cooked, they ate without complaining.
At noon, Lin Father personally came to invite Ruo Manni, asking her and Hebrew Adam to come home for a meal. Although heavy snow had fallen all night, it stopped by the morning, and the snow accumulation was still shallow. Lin Father, wearing protective gear and after being treated with medicine, looked much younger and more energetic.
Ruo Manni had already explained to others the nature of her relationship with this family. She told them that because of her appearance, the family mistook her for their long-lost daughter. Now that there was no place to test the DNA, she and Hebrew Adam just went along with it. This way, they would have an official identity in this world.
The meal today was a family reunion. When Li Ziyan, Li Father, Li Mother, and Su Luoxue saw Ruo Manni and Hebrew Adam, their faces were filled with immense gratitude.
After meeting them, the Li family had no doubt about this suddenly emerging daughter of the Lin family. Ruo Manni and Lin Kexin looked like sisters, and Hebrew Adam was clearly a foreigner.
Most importantly, these two appeared to be in their early twenties, yet gave off an air of profound strength, making it clear they weren’t ordinary people. Li Father and Li Mother felt extremely fortunate that their daughter had married into the Lin family, otherwise, they didn’t know when they’d be able to see their daughter again.
Ruo Manni noticed that when Su Luoxue saw Hebrew Adam, there was a flash of admiration in her eyes. But once she learned that this handsome foreign young man already had a fiancée—who happened to be her life-saver—the admiration turned into a respectful gaze.
This girl seemed to have good character, Ruo Manni thought to herself.
