Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 336 - The Real Crisis

“We’ve been standing here for so long and are already exhausted, yet those two young people have been continuously fighting zombies for so long. Seeing how fast they can still run, it’s clear that they haven’t exhausted their stamina. Truly, the younger generation surpasses the older one, with the older generation dying on the beach.”

Someone scorned him and said, “You were not as good when you were young.”

“Can you even compare to these two young people? Our base can’t find anyone who could even fight at half their level. Who knows where these two young people came from?”

“Regardless of where they came from, they are here to help us.”

“Base leader, judging by the way these two young people are acting, they seem like they’ll continue tomorrow. We should also respond in some way, we can’t just watch them kill zombies. Even though their speed is beyond human, there are just too many zombies.”

Wang Shengxi nodded: “Given these two young people’s speed, they’ll have the passage ready by tomorrow morning. Have the special forces in the base prepare, once the passage is open tomorrow, everyone will go out to kill zombies. The more people, the greater the strength.”

In this situation, Wang Shengxi put aside his selfish thoughts and seriously considered how to solve the zombie problem.

“Yes,” responded the leader in charge of the special forces, sounding energetic.

Being surrounded and waiting to die wasn’t a good feeling, and many people were actually willing to go out and take the risk. Now that the danger of fighting zombies outside had reduced significantly, they all felt much more energetic.

Those two young people risked their lives to build the passage for them, and if they didn’t dare to go out and save themselves, it would be better to just commit suicide.

Over the past two months, although Ruo Manni, Hebrew Adam, and their team had mostly been avoiding humans, it wasn’t only China that was monitoring the Earth’s surface situation through satellites. In fact, the story of four unnamed heroes with exceptional martial arts skills had spread worldwide.

With cameras capturing their every move from all directions, sometimes the four young fighters couldn’t avoid being filmed directly. The mixed pairing of Eastern and Western experts satisfied both Eastern and Western people’s sense of pride.

“We’ve underestimated the strength of these young people,” sighed the leader of Base One in the capital.

The leader of Base Two said, “I think the pair from the Northwest Base is much stronger than the one from the East.”

“It’s been obvious that the Northwest team has always been stronger. The young pair from there appear more relaxed and always seem to have everything under control,” said the leader of Base One.

Then he turned to look at the leader of Base Two and said, “Now you shouldn’t oppose hiring them, right? The real danger for humanity is still ahead. In such a crisis, all human survivors must unite, only then is there a possibility… why must you be so opposed to their foreign identities?”

Thinking about the origins of the apocalypse they had gradually uncovered over the past month, the leader of Base Two sighed deeply and nodded silently.

Seeing that he had finally softened, the leader of Base One relaxed his furrowed brows: “Also, the nine young people from the B City Base, although not as skilled as these four, have already far surpassed the others. More importantly, they are so young, and in the future, they could very well be the saviors of humanity.”

The leader of Base Two glanced at the two screens, showing two pairs of young couples, one in the Northwest and one in the Southeast. Both were fighting zombies, trying to save the surrounded bases.

Suddenly, he spoke up: “They must have been in contact with each other. The young couple in the Southeast, just yesterday, were simply killing zombies, but today they’ve started to do what the pair in the Northwest did—using zombie bodies to create a passage.”

The leader of Base One nodded, not surprised. It was clear he had noticed this earlier.

“They must have come from that special organization. They likely have some special communication devices. After all, the satellites are still operational. From what we’ve observed over the past few months, these kids’ nature is good. Fortunately, they were freed in time, or else if they had been completely corrupted by that special organization, with their skills, who knows how much harm they could have caused to society and the world in the future.”

“The U.S., Flower Country, and the De Country have already called us, wanting to form a global alliance.”

“Didn’t we say before that we should avoid acting hastily and try not to use communication devices? If those people are who we suspect, they surely haven’t left without surveillance. If we act carelessly, we might draw their attention and prompt them to try to wipe us all out. We currently have no ability to resist, so we must wait until we’ve suppressed our current precarious situation. Otherwise, the internal and external threats combined will only lead to a quicker demise.”

The two fell silent. After a long pause, the leader of Base One made a firm decision: “Then we will not respond for now, and we will proceed covertly.”

The leader of Base Two let out a long sigh and said nothing more.

Some things were left unsaid, but both understood in their hearts that humanity had not yet reached the point of true despair.

Although they knew human strength was limited, they wouldn’t give up until that day arrived.

They would do everything they could to find a way for humanity to survive.

The next day, Hebrew Adam and Ruo Manni completed the passage, which they had built using zombie bodies as obstacles, all the way to the base’s main gate.

The military of the Northwest Base had already been waiting behind the gate. Even though the passage was not yet fully finished, they couldn’t wait any longer and rushed out to kill.

Indeed, the saying “many hands make light work” proved true. With two invincible experts leading the charge, the others no longer feared being trapped. Moving from despair to hope, they threw aside their usual thoughts and worked together to kill zombies.

In less than two days, the Northwest Base had killed over a million zombies. Needless to say, this greatly boosted morale. To give the soldiers fighting outside more strength, many people started to ration their food and save as much as they could.

By this time, the capital base had finally managed to break free and immediately sent large transport planes to deliver supplies.

For safety reasons, these supplies were dropped from over 10,000 meters in the air, which meant the landing locations were uncertain. Some of the supplies landed as far as dozens of kilometers away from the Northwest Base.

However, they were finally able to leave the base, and teams were sent out to search for the supplies. Although two of the teams encountered danger and were completely wiped out, the other eight teams returned successfully with the supplies.
