Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 348 - Meticulous Planning

Avril Logan nearly stepped forward to stop her father from acting out again, but suddenly noticed Crown Prince Xiahai Adam walking toward her. His deep blue eyes looked at her as he offered a gentlemanly smile. “Major Logan, you are the most powerful psychic in our Allied Forces. I hope you can also take on the role of Chief Instructor for the Allied Psychic Corps’ Intelligence Division.”

Avril Logan felt her heart pound wildly under the impact of Xiahai Adam’s smile—she nearly blurted out, Your Highness, you truly live up to your title as the most handsome man in the Gumera Starfield…

Luckily, even though she was momentarily dazzled by the handsome prince, her powerful psychic ability allowed her to multitask with ease. So, while she was momentarily entranced by his looks, she still clearly registered what he said.

“Chief Instructor of the Allied Psychic Corps’ Intelligence Division?” Avril Logan repeated in confusion, her face full of puzzlement. “Commander, what kind of position is that exactly?”

Her cold and striking features softened into an unintentionally cute expression due to her confusion.

A fleeting, unreadable glimmer flashed through Xiahai Adam’s eyes. He withdrew his smile and spoke seriously, “Settle in for now. We’ll discuss it in detail after tomorrow’s training.”

“Yes, sir,” Avril Logan responded somewhat dazedly with a salute.

“General Logan, let’s continue our conversation in the commander’s office. I have many matters to discuss with you.” Xiahai Adam turned to Konrad Logan and made a polite gesture, then took the lead and walked ahead.

Konrad Logan, unwilling to concede, muttered quietly to Avril Logan, “What kind of nonsense position is Chief Instructor of the Allied Psychic Corps’ Intelligence Division? When did the Allied Forces ever have that role? He’s not trying to trick you, is he?”

“General,” Avril Logan gave her father a stern look.

Konrad Logan had no choice but to rein in his expression. With his guards in tow, he followed Xiahai Adam into the Allied Forces’ headquarters.

Only after watching her father disappear into the distance did Avril Logan lead her unit toward the Vera Federation’s designated camp.

“Major, I’ve never seen the General dislike anyone this much. His Highness Xiahai Adam is so young, handsome, and courteous—why does the General hate him so much?” her adjutant asked, utterly confused by the general’s petty behavior.

Disliking someone as capable as His Highness out of wariness was understandable—but hating him? That was just too strange.

Avril Logan maintained her noble, aloof demeanor. She couldn’t tell anyone the truth—that her mother greatly admired Xiahai Adam, even calling him the number one heartthrob in the Gumera Starfield, often lamenting that she was born too soon. So the poor Crown Prince, without ever realizing it, had become a target of her father’s resentment.

“You can’t die. I’m not that important… You have to live, and you must save humanity…”

On the other end of the video, a beautiful woman gave him a smile sweeter than any she’d ever shown before. “I’m so glad I got to meet you. I’ve liked you since I was just a girl. If there’s another life, I hope I get to meet you earlier. My biggest regret is not being brave enough… If there is a next life, you must let me sleep with you…”

He wanted to stop her, wanted to grab her… But across the void, he couldn’t reach her. He watched helplessly as she vanished into the explosion’s flames, forever…

Xiahai Adam suddenly opened his eyes, sitting up in bed, his breathing slightly hurried.

If Xiahai Adam’s adjutant had been there, he would have been very surprised to see that, no matter how calm, composed, and collected the Crown Prince was in any situation, tonight, he displayed an emotion he had never shown before—regret.

However, such a weak emotion lasted only for a few minutes. Once Xiahai Adam pulled himself out of the dream, he quickly shook off its influence.

He got up and walked to the window, gazing at the distant starry sky.

In six months, the Yunkai Star people would arrive.

But the Allied Forces had already taken their positions, and all preparations had been made.

For this day, he had meticulously planned three excellent strategies, enough to ensure that humanity in the Gumera Starfield would safely survive this cataclysmic crisis.

He believed that certain tragedies that should not have happened would not occur.

Standing in front of the window for a full half hour, although he had only slept for two hours that night, the young man’s boundless energy made Xiahai Adam no longer feel sleepy. Instead, he decided to continue his cultivation.

The next morning, after Avril Logan had finished her training, she received a message from Crown Prince Xiahai Adam, asking her to report to the Commander’s office.

Avril Logan couldn’t believe it at first. She double-checked—it was indeed a message from Crown Prince Xiahai Adam himself, not from his adjutant.

Wasn’t it said that Crown Prince Xiahai Adam disliked women? Even when there were official matters, it was always his adjutant who handled them, and he never made personal appearances.

It was rumored that the only woman who could get close to him and speak intimately with him was his legendary cousin, Hua De Manni, the future second princess consort of the Gus Empire.

Avril Logan had seen a photograph where Xiahai Adam was conversing with a dark-haired, dark-eyed young girl, and his expression was unusually gentle.

Seeing their idol, usually so high and mighty, treat her so kindly, it was no wonder Hua De Manni was the subject of envy and jealousy from all around.

That young lady from the Hua De family even became the “female public enemy” of the Gumera Starfield.

Avril Logan checked herself in the mirror, making sure her hair, which had been wild from training, was now neatly tied up. Her expression was calm and composed before she left.

Upon arriving outside the Commander’s office, the guards verified her identity and immediately saluted. “Major Logan, please enter.”

The adjutant to Crown Prince Xiahai Adam greeted her even more respectfully. “Major Logan, please. His Highness has been waiting for you.”

Inside the office, the young, handsome man in a crisp white military uniform sat on a casual sofa. His deep blue eyes were fixed on her as he gave her a slight smile. “Major Logan, please sit.”

Avril Logan, a little dazed, sat down on the sofa. She wanted to capture this moment with her idol.

Who said that the Crown Prince was cold and distant, never personally meeting women or smiling at them? That was all a lie.

Xiahai Adam personally explained to Avril Logan that the role of the Allied Forces Psychic Corps Intelligence Instructor was to have her train all psychics in analyzing and responding to information.

This training was crucial to the psychics’ control and response on the battlefield.

“This task is too important. I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle it,” Avril Logan said with some unease.

If it were just about training the psychics from the Vera Federation, Avril Logan wouldn’t hesitate. With her father around, she wouldn’t mind using his authority to suppress the situation and get things done quickly.

But the psychics from the Gus Empire were a different story. They were very proud and aloof, and it would be difficult to work with them since they would pretend to be friendly while harboring ill intentions.

To win them over, she would need to put in a lot of effort.

Avril Logan was someone who preferred simplicity and peace, not wanting to get entangled in too much trouble. If it weren’t for the looming national crisis, she would still be just a simple armor designer, not a soldier.
