Captivating The Demon King: Eve's Obsession

Chapter 14: Brick Walls

Three strong knocks at the door sometime close to the afternoon of that day had Head Nun Gagadel raising her head from reading all of her bookkeeping of last month's donations. There was still no record of any sort of donations coming in this month except those boxes of worn-out dresses and shoes.

Head Nun Gagadel sighed deeply, her strong demon voice deepening as she said, "Come in."

Klara opened the door leading to Head Nun Gagadel's private office and entered while greeting the nun slightly with a head bow.

"What is it? I am very busy now trying not to go insane with all of this nonsense. If it is not important, you can tell me later."

Klara looked at the Head Nun silently for a few seconds before opening her lips to say, "There are demon guards outside the front door of the orphanage and… they are asking for the King's Mate."

"What?"

"No, give me your hand first, Evie, and I will help you up."

Eve nodded and stretched forth her hand to Kira, currently on the other side of the brick wall. Everywhere was quiet and the road still deserted as the moon began to peek out from the dark clouds to shine on the both of them as they helped each other up the brick walls and over to Demonlord Raha's private property. It was a long walk down to his hidden mansion somewhere in the woods and very close to Red Ville.

The sounds of the night creatures scared Eve a bit, but these were all part of the things they had no control over.

"Okay, Evie, let's pull our bags up by stepping on this to reach over…"

Eve followed as instructed and after a few minutes of struggle, they were able to pull their two small bags of clothes up and inside Demonlord Raha's private property.

"Are you alright, Evie? It didn't really hurt trying to climb over that wall, did it?"

Eve shook her head and assured Kira that she was fine and wasn't all that weak or useless because she was terminally ill.

The forbidden mansion—more like a miniature version of the private castles owned by royal demonlords—loomed over them like a tall, dark birthday cake in the middle of the large surroundings. The house was about twenty times the size of their wooden orphanage and a solid three-story building built mainly of red bricks.

Eve wondered who still used red bricks in Hell anymore.

It gave the house a more ancient and abandoned look. Eve thought she saw one of those creepy olden birds looking at them from one of the trees planted in front of the house. She gulped down in fear, unable to imagine living a day of her life in this kind of place.

It was too scary, too old, and it looked like they were heading toward a dungeon rather than Demonlord Raha's mansion.

"Let's get in through the backdoor and not the front."

Eve had no choice but to nod her head and follow her sister wherever she led. After walking another solid five minutes around the house, the backdoor, surprisingly, reminded her of a jailer's cell door. Eve's lips parted softly in disbelief as her sister quickly climbed the three small steps to knock impatiently on the iron door.

Eve waited, keeping a close eye on her sister's form, her hands tightening around her bag with each desperate knock her sister gave without any answer or sign of movement from within. It made Eve tempted to pull her sister away from that scary door and leave. There were better ways for homeless people to survive than to be mistresses of a demonlord she was still yet to know anything about.

Kira almost fell off the steps in shock when the door suddenly opened and a woman the size of that door peeked from the darkness to glare down at them.

"What in Hell's name are you doing here again, Kirah? And who's this you brought along with you to see the master this time of the night?"

The way she said the name Kira was very weird. Like there was another letter added to the name.

"Madame Gothel, hi!" Kira said to the chubby demoness as if already out of breath. "Is Demonlord Raha around? My sister and I would like to speak to him now, please. It's urgent."

"Speak to him?" Madame Gothel scoffed while her red eyes stared down suspiciously at the bags in their hands.

"Yes, please. It wouldn't take a second—I swear. Please, let me in again."

"Well, I can't this time again, dearie."

Kira's heart sank as she stared at Madame Gothel in shock. "Why?"

"Because… the Master is busy right now and you know, of all people, that he doesn't like it when people interrupt him when he is busy."

Busy?

Kira tried to wrap her head around this, as Demonlord Raha and 'busy' used in the same sentence felt so… strange.

"Busy?"

"Yes!" Madame Gothel snapped with a hiss. "Busy with a very important visitor and it is going to take the whole night. You are free to try again tomorrow."

Kira quickly placed her hand before Madame Gothel could close the door on their faces.

"Wait! Please, you don't understand…" Kira began with tears running down her cheeks, which Madame Gothel was quick to see, taking the girls' situation more seriously. "...My sister and I have nowhere else to go and can't come back tomorrow. I don't mind waiting until he is less occupied, but please can we at least have somewhere to stay in here for tonight, please. In return, I will do whatever it is that you might want from me."

Eve wanted to step in again because once again, Kira was trying to give herself away to be used again in return for something they both desperately wanted.

"Kira, I don't think you should be…"

Madame Gothel quickly opened the door wide for both sisters to come in, cutting Eve short. Kira stepped in, urging Eve to come in or they might end up sleeping on the streets tonight.

Eve looked behind her, then at Kira's pleading eyes, before stepping in. The loud bang of Madame Gothel shutting the door behind them echoed as they both wandered down the dark and empty hallway of the house.

Madame Gothel led them through a more welcoming hallway, past some doors that looked ancient and old—close to falling off their edges. The entire temperature of the house was cold and freezing—making each of their spines tingle a bit. Eve made a few eye contacts with some scary-looking gargoyles, demonic beasts of Hell, and fearfully-looking serpent paintings on both sides of the wall as they delved deeper. It made her wonder just what kind of demon her dear, little sister got herself entangled with and was now leading both of them back to his trap.

The demon that abandoned them to journey on his own to the Red Palace without giving two shits about their safety or care. The demon that made their journey less horrifying than it should be. The demon that didn't care about making his home more welcoming or cozy. The entire room smelled terrible—of burning flesh—which made Eve's eyes water a bit. These icy cold feelings began to seep all the way to her bones, and everything was becoming more overwhelming than it should be. It felt like the air was getting sucked out of her lungs the more she ventured into this cursed, smelly home. A place she couldn't imagine herself living in forever or her sister being the mistress of.

Madame Gothel suddenly turned with the lantern in her hands that she was using to lead them down god knows where.

"You both should wait here while I go upstairs into the attic to prepare you both a place you can stay for the night."

The… attic?

Why did she feel disappointed when she had always slept in the attic all her life?

The demon turned around and left them both waiting at the bottom of some equally creepy stairs with the light. Eve was only grateful it didn't turn out to be so dark and lonely until Kira pleaded she would be right back and needed to look for the nearest washroom in this place to ease herself.

The silence that occurred after was dreadful and Eve tried as much as possible to hold her breath until either Kira or Madame Gothel returned from wherever they went in this place.

She was doing a great job minding her business until a loud bang had her soul jumping out of her body and returning seconds later in fear. Eve quickly closed her eyes and pretended like she didn't hear that until it sounded again and again. These times it was louder with each occurrence. The poor girl turned around to face another lonely hallway, stretching forth with doors aligned by its sides, and the sound seemed to be coming from one of those rooms. With her heart racing a thousand miles and her feet inching closer to the room where the chaos was coming from, she paused before the room that was the first to have double doors since she had journeyed into this sick place that resembled one abandoned asylum.

This time, the sound resembled breaking and smashing before she heard a deep, miserable groan of pain. Her hands trembled as they fastened around the cold door knobs to open the door wide enough to catch a glimpse of whatever was going on in that room.

"You dare call me unreasonable?"

The dynamic play between his red slits swimming in between his beautiful golden orbs seemed to be the only light in the room. His beautiful, dark red lips moved as he towered over the demon trembling and begging to be spared by him. The demon seemed to be currently losing an arm—and many more body parts than that—as he was bathed from head to toe in blood. But the assaulter seemed not to have the smallest taint of blood on his ethereal form.

Eve continued to look at him and instill terror upon terror into the heart of the disfigured and unstable demon at his feet.

A slight chill traveled down her spine when he violently grabbed the demon by the neck and said again close to his face with murderous intent flashing red in his eyes. "Dare say it again to my face, Raha, and let me show you how it feels to say it again when I pull out your tongue and feed it to you."

"Didn't I tell you two to wait for me at the stairs while I prepared you both a room to stay in?!"

Eve's entire body spasmed in fear when she turned to see Madame Gothel coming down at her with promises of dealing with them both gravely for their disobedience.

Eve looked back again only to fall back with a loud gasp of terror when a pair of dark red and golden gaze was already staring right back at her.
