Caught On Act

Chapter 5: OPERATION 5: ENCOUNTER

Int- CYBER INFORMATION DEPARTMENT- 11 AM

The room was dark, all windows were tinted and countless computer monitors were pinned on the wall. The clicks of the keyboard reign in the atmosphere.

The room was soundproof just like the rest of the high risk department of the Grand Covenant Order. Every information needs to be encrypted.

"What do you mean you can't track it?" The Major General asked.

The cyber department can't track it, this might be a trap. He thought.

"She is using a device to put a fake location." One of the leaders stood up to Erion.

"She might be a high rank decipher master or an Originator." He walked back to his station and faced his monitor.

"Or a criminal" Erion interjected.

"I tried everything, No address for the phone but the model was not erased, I ran all the serial numbers and it was quite a unique model."

"I tracked all the owners in the city and the closest time on email sending, this is less than a minute before you received it. It was sent to the police station downtown." he stopped typing.

"Good, Thank you!" Erion was about to exit the room.

"He might not be there anymore Major, it's just the location where she sends the message."

Road Highway Oris Province - 12 noon

The Major General was driving his pickup truck on an old road with no houses and just trees.

As he remembered going to the police downtown and asking for any suspicious person in the area.

"Everything is fine, well aside from that overreacting lady that keeps on insisting that her friend is kidnapped." One of the police on the front door said.

"Can you believe that? She doesn't even look rich, I bet her friend is not worth kidnapping as well."

Erion walked away from the police station, he wanted to be disgusted by the police's behavior but it's a normal thing to encounter. Being a police officer is a privilege, nothing more.

'Help me! Police won't help me.' He remembers the letter on the screen of his laptop.

It sounds very desperate. I need to check the location of the tracker first, people in desperation might do things unimaginable.

I'm just gonna check, not going in.

He opens the window on the side of the car, the wind pushes his hair revealing his face with those icy blue eyes. His black pickup car swiftly embarks the traces of the coordinates he was given.

I can't go in there with the team, It's not under my jurisdiction.

But he did this a couple of times, that's the main reason he doesn't wear his General's uniform.

The other headquarters are no use, a bunch of greedy politicians.

It might be a trap as well, is it worth it to risk my life on this?

The killing and kidnapping in Perigo cube dreadfully skyrocketed, this should end as soon as possible.

Houses and establishments are starting to decrease as he wheeled deeper.

I'm just gonna check, not going in.

He slowed down,

This is a private driveway that leads only to one property, going in will be suicide.

A gate can be seen at the end of the deserted driveway.

He was about to reverse when she saw a woman lurking at the gate near the building.

Don't tell me she did come-

She might get killed by just coming near the gates, these people are dangerous.

The girl about his age, or younger, is obviously trying to peek inside the gaps in the gates.

Without thinking he accelerated forward until she reached the location of the girl peeping on the gate holes.

He lowered the window and called her from the car.

"Get in the car." He instructed..

The girl with long curly hair has a backpack and is just wearing a simple yellow shirt and brown walking shorts.

"Are you from here?" She asked.

"No, In the car, now!" He commands again.

In shock, she listened to the voice in command and walked inside the pickup truck.

"My friend is inside your farmhouse!" She said as he entered the car.

"Obviously, I am not from there, are you the one who sent the email?" He was looking around for possible enemies.

"Why did you call me? I need to -" the woman protested.

"I said, are you the one who sent me the email? I thought that person is smart to get on my security. Looks like you just got lucky." He looked at her with a poker face.

We need to get out of here. He started to conjure plans in his mind.

She heard him hissed.

"I did send that! No one is helping me, what do you expect me to do?" There were tears on the side of her eyes.

Wait a minute, she looks familiar. He realized. She was the girl last night.

The one that- She probably doesn't recognize me at all. Good.

"My friend is inside, we have to help her!" She starts pulling Erion's left arm.

They are now parked on a one-way road to a building with a high wall but no guards are stationed at the front.

"Are you part of The Order? Let's go inside now!" She continues looking at him and looking back to the gated farm.

"Yes, My name is Erion, and no, we are not going inside that. We have to call back up." He pulled the communication device to the side of the car.

I have to send new coordinates. Erion presses the buttons on the device.

"And how do you know that she is inside?" He was looking forward while Evah started to pull out her phone.

Erion is trying to shift the conversation but he is actually sending signals to the assigned team about this tip.

We can't just drive out now, there might be a trap on the entrance of this driveway.

"I put a tracker on her phone. If she's out of town and the phone is turned off, it will send me the last known location." She was staring at the last entry on the program on her phone.

"Did you bug her?" The information grabbed his attention and immediately turned to her direction.

That's illegal. Except if you're law enforcement and she's clearly not.

"She knows it! It's for her own safety." her defense.

"Stop assuming things." He nonchalantly replied.

The alarm rang again, a loud noise coming from the phone. Evah turned it off immediately.

"She's in there!" showing her phone to Erion.

"How can you get a location from a dead phone?" he asked, puzzled. Even with their latest technology, they couldn't track a dead phone. Once it's out of power, it's a dead end.

"I reserved twenty percent of the battery by default then wired it to a different section. If the phone was off for more than 30 minutes It will send me coordinates because Yuka never turns off her phone," she explained.

Girls are scary. The Major general thought.

Or maybe this girl is scary. He corrected himself

Erion turns in her direction this time and tries to hide his reaction.

"No, we can't waste time!" She started pulling Erion's arm once again.

She's right. He thought

But it will also be suicide if we go in,

"I called back up, can you please calm down, miss." He continued command using a special device he was carrying.

In a flash, Evah opened the door and ran away.

Stunned by what happened Erion looked at the double lock control on his side.

What the? Dumbfounded.

"Next time I'm gonna lock you down!" He shouts in frustration.

This is suicide.

Too late, Evah is already gone without a trace.

He pulled the gun from the box on the side, a silver-plated gun that declares his rank and a special silencer that perfectly fit.

Then he dashes out of the car.

Notes: In this world, the territories are divided into Zones, each functioning as a country. While each Zone has its official name, they are primarily referred to by their numbers, a system that has become more common than their original identities. At the national level, seven Major Generals hold immense power, each one responsible for maintaining order and leading The Grand Covenant Order within their assigned Zone. These generals oversee the stability of their regions, enforcing the Covenant's will with unquestionable authority. Their influence reaches far beyond their own borders, shaping the future of entire Zones, all while their numerical designations remain more familiar to the people than the names they once bore.
