Chronicles of Forgotten Extra

Chapter 219: Dungeon, Duck and Death?

Alden stood up after a long silence.

He had been sitting there for hours, thinking.

The dragon girl from before—what she said still echoed in his mind.

Something about time distortions.

Something about being from another timeline.

He didn't fully understand it.

But he had guesses.

This dungeon wasn't normal. It was twisted.

Distorted.

A place where timelines might have converged.

That girl was from another time.

And the way she looked at him—

There was something strangely familiar in her eyes.

Alden clenched his fist.

She resembled Amyra.

Not directly.

But in that look.

That aura.

Was she related to her?

Maybe an ancestor?

Or... a descendant?

But the way she carried herself—like someone from an older era.

Ancestor felt more likely.

If that was true… then the Celestrian bloodline… did it come from dragons?

He shook his head.

"I'll think about it later," he muttered.

Right now, he had something more urgent to deal with.

The boss.

He turned his eyes toward the center of the dungeon.

He could feel it.

The mana fluctuations from that direction were the strongest.

The boss monster was there.

He hadn't expected this dungeon to be so strange.

He entered thinking it would follow the novel.

He was wrong.

The monsters were different.

The structure was twisted.

Even the flow of time felt off.

"I should have known," he said softly.

Nothing matched anymore.

The novel was no longer a guide.

He had learned that lesson many times but he had thought at least some things wouldn't change.

But he was wrong.

Nothing was similar anymore…

Still, he had come too far to turn back.

He had no choice now.

Fight, or rot here forever.

Those were the only options he had.

He glanced towards his shadow.

Alden's expression hardened.

He wasn't going to die.

Not while Kyun depended on him.

If it was him alone, he wouldn't have cared but Kyun was with him.

He couldn't let her be in danger.

"I'll survive," he said under his breath.

Then, he moved.

__

A day passed.

Kyun had been bugging him to let her come out. But he had been stern.

He hadn't answered.

He couldn't let her enter this twisted dungeon.

What if time got distorted and they were sent to different times.

He couldn't afford that.

So he asked her to bear a little longer.

Alden had expected to reach the center within hours.

But the monsters didn't let him.

He fought. He healed. He walked. He fought again.

It was nearly endless.

Each beast was stronger than the last.

Some moved like shadows.

Some attacked him relentlessly.

But none of them stopped him.

He was tired. Although he made sure to rest in between, he hadn't slept a single second since he entered the dungeon.

He couldn't afford that.

But he was still standing.

Now, he stood behind a thick tree, almost a kilometer away from the center.

His eyes narrowed.

In the middle of an open field, in front of a wide cave entrance—

Slept a duck.

A big, snow-white duck.

The sound of its snoring echoed through the still air.

Alden blinked.

"...It's the same," he muttered.

The same as the novel.

The duck boss.

It looked ridiculous.

But it radiated mana. A lot of it.

Adept rank.

Its beak was sharp. Its body looked heavy.

Alden didn't relax.

He remembered the novel.

This duck was strong… too strong and could one-shot anything at its level.

But it had weaknesses.

It was blind and slow.

Seles had discovered that. She used it to defeat the duck easily.

Alden planned to do the same.

He closed his eyes and focused.

The duck was blind. But its mana senses were sharp.

It could feel everything within five hundred meters.

Like a twisted version of Spirit Domain Alden had.

He couldn't teleport directly in front of it.

He couldn't make a noise.

He had to get close. Fast. Silent. Clean.

He took a deep breath.

Then moved.

He circled wide, keeping trees between him and the boss.

Each step was measured.

No magic.

Nothing that could alert it.

His breath slowed.

His heart calmed.

Alden moved carefully until he stood exactly at the edge—five hundred meters away.

One step further, and the duck would sense him.

He stopped.

He took a deep breath.

Then slowly transformed his sword into a bow.

From his shadow, he formed a single arrow.

He hadn't trained much with bows. He knew the shot would likely miss.

That wasn't the point.

This was just a distraction.

He took aim.

The string tensed.

Then—he released.

The arrow flew fast with a swish sound in a stable path.

It curved, intentionally veering off to the duck's right.

Alden could control it within his range.

Once it left that range the arrow became unstable.

But it had already done it's intended work.

The duck's head twitched.

It stood up, its aura flaring.

Its senses picked up the mana trail of the arrow.

Its attention locked in that direction.

That was enough.

Alden moved.

Shadow Step.

Again.

And again.

Three times in quick succession.

He appeared right in front of the duck, silent and sudden.

The duck tried to turn its head back.

But Alden was faster.

His mana channelled through his already transformed sword.

He burst mana through it in quick and efficient motion.

[Ruinous Severance]

His sword sliced through the air in a clean arc.

The sword passed through the duck's neck smoothly.

For a moment.

Nothing happened before its head fell with a heavy thump.

A crimson arc of blood erupted outward, covering Alden with warm blood.

The body stood for a second longer.

Then collapsed.

Alden exhaled.

It was over within seconds.

It wasn't that the duck was weak.

No.

The duck was too strong.

Even in the novel, it gave Lucien and Seles quite trouble before they managed to defeat it.

Alden could only defeat it easily because he knew its weakness.

But something felt wrong.

Alden's senses prickled.

He turned slowly.

The body was already breaking apart.

Not fading like a normal dungeon boss.

Pieces of its form glitched—like glass shattering under pressure.

The ground trembled beneath his feet.

The trees began to shake.

A deep rumble echoed through the forest.

Alden froze.

He looked at the cave.

It was gone.

Like reality itself was missing.

"What... is this?" he whispered.

Kyun stirred in his shadow. Silent.

Her presence pulsed—not in fear, but warning.

He didn't respond.

He couldn't.

His focus was solely focused on what was happening.

He just stared.

The duck was defeated.

But the dungeon had only just begun to unravel.
