Chronicles of Forgotten Extra

Chapter 238: Perfect Vessel.

Alden followed Nyx into the principal's office.

The room was spacious and well-lit.

A gentle breeze stirred the curtains even though the windows were closed. Books lined the wall. A pot of steaming tea sat on the side table.

And behind the grand obsidian desk sat Jeremy Voidforge—headmaster of the academy, one of the strongest beings on the continent and Alden's master.

A man who smiled like a saint…

…and wore the skin of a devil.

Jeremy looked up as they entered. "Ah, there you are."

His voice was calm, deep and warm enough to melt suspicion. "Come, sit."

He gestured toward the two chairs before him.

Nyx sat down with a familiarity, legs crossed like she owned the space.

Makes sense. She was his disciple from before.

Come to think of it, I never asked her about how she became his disciple.

Jeremy couldn't have just chosen anyone.

Alden gave a respectful nod to Jeremy and sat down on the chair beside Nyx's.

He had a part to play after all.

"Good," Jeremy said.

He looked at Nyx for just a moment before his attention was back on Alden. "You're adapting well to your new role."

Alden gave a humble nod. "I'm trying."

Jeremy chuckled softly. "Modest. That's good."

"We will begin formal training in a month." He leaned back in his chair, folding his hands. "Until then, I want you to familiarise yourself with this."

With a snap of his fingers, a thick, black-coloured manual appeared on the desk between them.

Its cover shimmered with faint spatial ripples.

Is that his space elemental tome?

Alden's eyes narrowed slightly.

Jeremy tapped the cover. "This manual is my original work. You may find it difficult to use, given your affinity leans toward shadow. But still—" he smiled, his eyes kind. "As my disciple, you should at least understand my path."

Alden reached for the book.

He wants to see how far I'll go.

How much I can learn… before he tries to take it all for himself.

Fucking bastard.

But Alden didn't blurt his inner thoughts out.

"I'll study it," he said calmly. "Thank you."

Jeremy nodded. "Good."

He looked clearly pleased with Alden's attitude.

For a while, he said nothing more.

The silence settled in naturally.

Alden looked beside him. Nyx hadn't said anything.

Why was she here then?

Just then Jeremy broke the silence. "Now, tell me… What happened in the combat hall?"

Alden had known this was coming.

He sat straight.

"Lucien's attack looked fatal. So, I interfered."

He didn't overly explain. There was no need. Jeremy must've known everything that happened anyway.

Jeremy raised an eyebrow. "I see."

Alden paused, then added, "And after that, I revealed about being your disciple."

Silence.

Then Jeremy waved a hand dismissively. "Don't worry. The ones who matter already know."

He smiled—a picture of gentle wisdom. "But now that you've declared it openly... it's time to make it official."

Jeremy continued,

"Next week, I'll be hosting a banquet. I'll announce both of you as my disciples to the public. A formal introduction."

"Both of us?" Nyx asked. She looked a little too surprised.

"Of course." Jeremy looked at her and then back at Alden. "You are both worthy. The world should know where you stand."

Nyx looked as if she wanted to say something but she stayed quiet.

Alden gave a respectful nod.

He really plays the part well.

If I didn't know the truth… Even I might've believed him to be some benevolent master.

"Alden, I see potential in you. Not just as a disciple, but as someone who can shape the future," Jeremy muttered.

Alden bowed his head. "I won't disappoint you, Master."

Jeremy smiled, clearly satisfied. "That's all for now."

Alden stood, bowing once again before turning toward the door.

As he stepped into the corridor, Alden exhaled.

The air felt colder than it should've been.

He didn't look back. But Nyx didn't follow him out.

She must be here for some other reason.

__

Nyx stayed alone within the office.

As soon as Alden left the office building completely, her gaze turned completely cold.

"What are you planning?" An oppressive pressure slammed onto Jeremy.

She had activated Bloodline Suppression on Jeremy.

Jeremy kneeled immediately.

His body felt overwhelmed. His eyes turned bloodshot.

"I–I am planning nothing, Young Miss." He spoke, his voice trembling.

"Why did you take him as your disciple?" Nyx's voice was devoid of any warmth.

She couldn't understand what Jeremy wanted.

She didn't react much to avoid any suspicion, but she was furious.

She'd known Jeremy made the offer. But not that Alden had accepted.

What is he planning?

She wasn't going to let him hurt her friends.

"H–he has immense potential… I just wanted him to carry on my legacy." Jeremy muttered, blood pooling at his lips.

"Why didn't you tell me about his acceptance?" Nyx asked as the intensity of blood suppression increased to an even greater level.

"I—I … called you here to … tell you about that today, Y-Young Miss." Jeremy's voice broke. He could barely even talk properly.

Should I just kill him?

Nyx thought for a moment.

No. I need his help. I can't kill him just yet.

She lifted the blood suppression as Jeremy took deep breaths as if he had been underwater moments ago.

"Thank you, Young Miss." He still didn't lift his head.

Nyx looked at him one last time. "Get rid of those rats you allowed to enter before. And don't try anything funny with Alden. I will keep a watch over him myself."

Jeremy nodded frantically. "Understood."

"This is my last warning, Jeremy. If you try anything funny without my permission again… I won't hesitate to kill you." Nyx turned with that last warning.

__

Silence.

The sound of the door closing echoed once. Twice.

Jeremy stayed kneeling. Head bowed and breathing shallow.

Then, quietly—too quietly—he laughed.

"She dares…"

His fingers twitched. One by one, his knuckles cracked, slow and deliberate.

"She dares to order me."

A glass paperweight on the desk cracked without being touched.

The windows of the room started cracking just by the aura released from him.

"Bloodline suppression." His lip curled. "That cursed leash her family left in my veins."

He wanted to kill her.

He'd dreamed of it. Fantasised about it. Planned for it since the first time she looked down on him with those cursed blue eyes.

But he couldn't.

The moment he moved against her directly—intention or act—the suppression would trigger.

Not might. Would.

It wasn't just some ancient blood pact.

No.

Jeremy had spent a lifetime researching it.

And the answer had always been the same:

There was no way.

The bloodline suppression wasn't just a leash. It was written into the fabric of cause and effect with Celestial mana—a near-extinct force only found in bloodlines beyond normal comprehension.

He couldn't touch her.

Couldn't poison her.

Couldn't even order an assassination or trigger a sequence of events that might lead to her death.

If he did?

She would know. Instantly.

There was only one way to get rid of his cursed bloodline, and that was to find a new body.

Jeremy got up.

"Once I shed this husk… once I finish the ritual… even her cursed blood won't bind me. I'll wear a new body and make the world itself kneel before me."

He turned slowly, walking toward the far wall.

With a wave of his fingers, the bookshelf parted like curtains, revealing a dark spiral staircase that stretched downward.

The air grew colder with every step.

He reached the chamber below. It was pristine and horrific.

Crystalline tubes lined the walls, each holding a body—male, female, beastlike—each a failed experiment in transcendence.

Their flesh warped.

Eyes melted.

I hope you'll be a perfect vessel, Alden.

__

While Jeremy plotted rebirth in a chamber of rot… Alden returned back to his dorm apartment.

Thankfully, there was no intruder this time.

Finally peace.

He sighed in relief.

"Yo Kyun… You can come out now."

With just a thought, the white crow shot out of his shadow.

Kyun didn't talk to him.

No mental poke to demand snacks.

Just silence.

Instead, she flew silently to the far corner of the room, perching atop a shelf where the shadows were deepest.

Wrapped her wings around herself like a cloak.

Head bowed.

Dramatic silence.

"…Kyun?" Alden tilted his head. "You good?"

She didn't respond. Just stared into nothing.

Just one wing slowly extended as if to say: "Leave me be, mortal. I have seen things."

He waved it off. Kyun had always been weird, but this was new.

Maybe she still hasn't recovered from the dungeon incident.

After trying to talk to Kyun for a few more minutes… Alden gave up.

He just entered the bathroom. He really wanted to take a cold shower for now.

His mind had lots of things to process.

Moreover, there was a loot he had yet to check—the space element tome Jeremy had given him.

But first things first…

Thinking such, he entered the shower, leaving the small white crow alone in the room.

He turned the water on. As the cold water ran down his back, he tilted his head back.

"If he wants to test me… I'll play along. But this time, I'm not playing to survive."

"I'm playing to win."

Meanwhile, in the corner of the room, Kyun didn't move.

But her eyes opened, the air around her shifted.

Something was changing.
