Chapter 12: Bonded
Jerry slowly started to regain consciousness. The first thing he noticed was a weight on his chest that was making it hard for him to breath. He also noticed a tickle in his nose. When he opened his eyes he way looking thru gray fur. He didn't feel any pain, so he knew he wasn't being gnawed on. As he took the time to check his body out he noticed he felt better than he had ever felt before. The wolf laying across his chest weighed 140 pounds easy and he felt he could bench press him a hundred times if he tried. As he sat up to look around he saw the tiger laying across his legs. His motion prompted the animals to get up as well. As Jerry stood up his clothing ripped in a couple places. 'Why are my clothes so tight all of a sudden,' he thought to himself. 'What are clothes?' he heard in his head. Looking down Jerry saw the wolf looking intently at him with its head cocked slightly to the side. "Did you just ask me a question?" Jerry asked the wolf. But it didn't answer him it just sat down still looking at him confused. Jerry looked at the tiger and asked him the same question, getting another blank stare for his efforts. Shaking his head Jerry thinks to himself with a chuckle, 'I must be going crazy.' 'What is crazy?' This time Jerry hears it in his head in stereo. Slowly picking up his staff he turns in a circle checking the woods around him for anyone who may be lurking behind a tree. The tiger walks up to Jerry and leans into him, rubbing its head and side on Jerry's leg. 'I am hungry.' 'Yes I am hungry too!' Jerry hears in his head. He looks down at his own stomach as it growls very loudly too. Both animals stop and look at him. Looking into their eyes Jerry sees that they are very intelligent, way more intelligent than a wolf and a tiger should be. 'Can you understand me when I talk out loud?' Jerry asks them mind to mind. 'No you make funny sounds that make no sense' they answer him together. 'Do you know why we can speak to each other, in our heads?', he asks them. They look at each other then back at him. 'We don't know. We were sad that our mothers died. But they died in battle, so we are proud of them. Then when we saw you we had a great pain inside. When you fell we could feel you inside of us. 'the wolf said 'Yes but we could also feel you in our head. As you slept we understood more of the things around us. We feel connected to each other and to you. Together we are home, together we are right.' the tiger said. Jerry instantly felt the rightness of what they were saying. They were now sharing their strengths with each other. He could offer them his intelligence, while they gave him heightened senses, agility, and made him stronger. That's why his clothes were tighter, he grew at least thirty pounds of muscle while he slept. He no longer had any fat left on his frame. Jerry breathed in deeply absorbing all the new smells he could now smell around him. Thanks to his new family he also knew what the different smells were. They all looked off to the left at the same time. 'Time for the hunt!' the wolf howled. 'Let me prepare first', Jerry said walking toward the dead tiger. He knelt down and grabbed one of her giant canines. Jerry looked back at the tiger, 'Is this okay?' 'Yes I would be proud if you carried a part of her with you.' the tiger replied with what could only be described as a smile on her face. Paying more then to her now Jerry could tell everything about, even down to how her coat felt to touch. 'I really should give you names. My dear tiger friend what of the most majestic tigers to rove the land was a Bengal tiger. So I shall name you Bengala.' Bengala roared mightily to show her approval. Looking over at the wolf Jerry says, 'In Sanskrit one of the oldest languages on my planet the world wolf is vrka, so I shall name you Vrkane.' Vrkane howled long and hard feeling that name was perfect for him. 'And my name is Jerry. Vrkane I would like to take a part of your mother with me as well', Jerry asked him. Vrkane bowed him head to Jerry showing his approval. Jerry took a large canine from the brown wolf also. Using a sturdy vine he found nearby, he affixed a tooth to either end of his staff. 'I am ready. Let's go catch that deer!' With that they were off running thru the forest. Jerry stumbled a couple of time, but not because the was cluttered. It was because his legs were moving faster than he was used to. After several painful starts and stops, He finally got the hang of his new speed. When he started he thought he was going to have trouble keeping up. Now he joked to Vrkane and Bengala that they were to slow. They were all having a wonderful time running at full speed, letting their bodies stretch and flow through the woods like water rushing through the trees. Jerry felt the primal urges of his family. They were like brother and sister to him now. As he let himself dive deeper into their primal urges, deeper then they even let themselves go, he heard then say, 'Come back you have gone too deep?' 'What do you mean?', Jerry asked, 'I feel great!' Before he could even think about why Jerry was howling at the sky. He felt more powerful than ever before, he wanted to rip out that deer's throat and drink its blood. 'You are changing, look at your hand...', Bengala said. Jerry looked down to see white fur covering his hand and forearm. 'Feel your face...', Vrkane said. When he does he feels a muzzle instead of his nose and mouth. Jerry listens to their advice and pulls back till he feels more like himself. 'Thank you. I could have easily lost myself in that feeling of power.' 'Your mind has freed us from the deep primal hunger we had. For that we thank you.' Vrkane replied.
As they got closer to the deer Jerry sensed it was a very large buck, so he slowed them to a walk. 'I have a plan. Vrkane you go far to the left and circle around behind it. Bengala you go to the right and circle around too. I will jump out and scare it to make it run toward you. Then whoever it runs toward can get it' Bengala and Vrkane looked at each other a little confused. 'We have never used a plan before', Vrkane said. 'But we will give it a try. It sounds easy', Bengala said. As they took off following Jerry's instructions, he reached out with his A.D. The deer was a hundred yards ahead of him. He quietly crept forward until he could just see the deer. Jerry could sense that Vrkane and Bengala were already in place, so he jumped out from behind the tree he was hiding behind yelling at the top of his lungs. The deer took off running toward the left straight for Vrkane's position. Vrkane got a little too excited about the kill and jumped out too soon. The big buck juked to the right and just avoided Vrkane's jaws. But it wasn't so lucky the next time. Bengala timed her pounce perfectly landing on its back, and quickly latching her fangs into its neck. As she tore out its throat she leaped gracefully off its back as its dead body tumbled to the ground. 'Your plan worked Jerry. Now we can feast!', Bengala roared showing her delight in a successful hunt. 'Is the first hunt you have been on, your first kill?', Jerry asked. 'I have been on hunts before, but I was only allowed to watch to learn.', Bengala said. 'And you Vrkane?', Jerry asked looking his way. 'I would hunt with my mother, but she was my alpha, so I wasn't allowed to kill.', Vrkane answered. Jerry used the large saber-tooth that was exceptionally sharp to cut away a leg for Bengala and Vrkane. He was skinning the buck and very engrossed in his work, so he let his senses wain letting his defenses slip. It wasn't until he heard the bowstring release that he realized they were being attacked. Jerry's chrono defense kicked in allowing him to dodge the arrow heading for his back. But as he moved he realized it left Vrkane right in the arrows trajectory. 'Move Vrkane, NOW!'
