Chapter 24: Chapter 24: If Heaven Won't Take You, I Will
The atmosphere at home was far from good—in Lady Yin's eyes, Nezha had stirred up trouble again, and she was distressed over whether she should inform her equally worrisome husband.
But the rain poured down heavily, making it impossible to reach Wild Horse Ridge in time to report to Li Jing, which consequently dispelled that thought.
She had Cui Yu accompany her, holding up an oil-paper umbrella as they walked toward the Buddha Hall.
In previous years, following the visit of a bald-headed practitioner from the Western Buddha Sect who preached here, a Buddha Hall was established in addition to the existing thirteen Divine Ghost Temples.
Lady Yin, kind-hearted as she was, favored the teachings of the Buddha Sect over other deities, therefore she often came here to worship and pray for blessings for Nezha.
However, just halfway there, a sudden gust of violent wind swept in the thunderstorm diagonally. Despite Cui Yu's best efforts with the paper umbrella, not only were their clothes drenched, but even the incense and candles for offering to the Buddha completely soaked.
Seeing this, Lady Yin felt an ominous sense of foreboding. She opened her mouth to speak but uttered not a word; instead, she sighed and continued on toward the Buddha Hall, head lowered.
Cui Yu, perceptive and considerate, discerned Lady Yin's troubled thoughts, offering comfort: "Madam, please don't overthink. If the incense and candles are wet, I'll fetch more from the storeroom. As for the third young master, he was born under unusual signs, with a golden bracelet on his arm and red silk around his waist, his spiritual intelligence just began to manifest recently, and a sage from the mountains has already taken him as a disciple. He is by no means ill-fated. A person with good fortune is naturally protected by heaven; nothing will happen to him."
"I hope so."
Comforted by Cui Yu's reassurance, Lady Yin's worries eased slightly. Meanwhile, Nezha, who had missed his lunch, went to the kitchen on his own to grab a basket of buns and two rice balls. He also cut four taels of pork from the cook's private stash before returning to his room, intending to eat his fill then meditate in order to replenish his utterly depleted Heaven and Earth Primordial Qi.
However, just as he arrived in his room and before he could sit down, he sensed something amiss. His rosy little face slowly cooled, and he called out with suppressed voice, "Who's under the bed? Come out!"
People hiding under the bed was a scenario usually found in horror movies and melodramatic family dramas Nezha had seen in his previous life. In real life, however, this was a novelty, and he felt more curiosity than nervousness.
No sooner had Nezha spoken when a skinny little figure crawled out from under the bed. She wore a pink layered gauze dress, with a rosy round face and blush-tinted cheeks, but most striking were her sparkling bright eyes, allowing Nezha to immediately recognize who she was.
"Lv Zhu'er! What are you still doing here?"
Lv Zhu'er's eyes darted around, and she quickly put on a slight show of grievance, speaking with a sob in her voice, "Hong Fei sister told me to wait here, then she disappeared."
After speaking, Lv Zhu'er's gaze fixed on the food container Nezha had just placed on the table. Although she couldn't see what was inside, the faint aroma that wafted out stirred up the hunger worms in the little girl's stomach, which began to growl after a long time without food.
Nezha laughed and said, "Hong Fei always acts so impetuously. Don't take it to heart, she's busy with many matters in the residence."
Lv Zhu'er hummed softly, then slowly nodded, casting a tentative glance at Nezha.
Nezha said, "If you're hungry, come and eat. You don't need to put on such a pitiful expression. It might work with others, but it's unnecessary with me, your young master."
Lv Zhu'er did not catch the deeper meaning in Nezha's words and heard only the invitation to eat. She immediately pounced over, took out the plates from the container, and spread them on the table to start eating wolfishly.
Watching her, Nezha's face unconsciously broke into a smile. After all, people need to be well-fed and clothed before they can discuss profound truths.
But upon further reflection, he also felt that life is too brief, and some truths, if not understood, might as well be let go.
He waited contentedly until Lv Zhu'er had eaten her fill, with plenty of food still remaining on the table, and only then did Nezha start 'cleaning the battlefield,' voraciously devouring everything that was left.
Nezha said, "It's getting late. I'm going to call someone from my family to arrange a guest room for you. When dawn breaks tomorrow, we'll find some guards to escort you back to Lizhu Village."
Hearing that she would return to the village tomorrow, the little girl's face turned deathly pale in an instant. This time, it wasn't an act. Large teardrops fell one by one as she said, "Brother Nezha, I don't want to go back. I'm afraid of the Yaksha, I'm afraid of the Great Witch, I don't want to die, I want to live. Please don't send me back, okay?"
Nezha felt that he had learned his lesson from his past life and shouldn't be fooled by a woman's tears again. However, now that he was living a new life in a different world, faced with the tears of such a little girl, he still felt somewhat at a loss.
He hurriedly found a clean handkerchief and crouched beside Little Lu Zhu'er, wiping her face while coaxing her, "Good girl Lu Zhu'er, don't cry, don't cry. This meal isn't your last."
"That Great Witch from your village, he committed many evils and has met his end from heaven – he's dead already."
"As for that Yaksha, with Brother Nezha here, if he dares to be shameless, he's in for a treat."
"Really?" Lu Zhu'er opened her round eyes wide. Hearing that the Great Witch was dead, the tears that had formed a curtain finally stopped.
"Really."
Lu Zhu'er still seemed scared and asked, "But what if heaven doesn't take care of that Yaksha?"
"If heaven doesn't take him, I will."
"Can I still come to play with Brother Nezha in the future?" Lu Zhu'er said, casting a subconscious glance at the food box on the table. The ingredients in the mansion's food were not particularly rare, but the preparation was definitely complex and delicate, each bite something Lu Zhu'er had never tasted before in her life.
Nezha saw through Lu Zhu'er's little thoughts in an instant, reached out to pat her little head, and smiled even more joyously as he said, "What a little gluttonous cat you are. Alright, if you ever crave something in the future, just come to the mansion and say my name. I won't guarantee anything else, but there will be plenty of delicious food for sure!"
"Brother Nezha is so nice!"
Watching Lu Zhu'er's smiling face and listening to the little girl's crisp and sweet tone as the sky grew darker, Nezha lit an oil lamp, feeling a multitude of emotions in his heart.
He was curious if he had never come to this world, what would become of the people he met—Lu Zhu'er, Bi Yun, Cai Yun, Shi Ji, and Mr. Fan.
What kind of person was the original Nezha?
In the books, did he really challenge the Dragon Palace of the East Sea just because he was young, ignorant, and mischievous?
...
Thousands of miles away from Chentang Pass, there is a range of famous mountains.
With the clouds hanging low and the sky high, several immortal cranes fly from the colorful clouds at the mountainside. An enlightened Spiritual Monkey picked a glowing red fruit and swung from vine to vine amidst countless ancient trees, with a pack of jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards hot on his tail.
Such fantastic sights are not considered unusual in these mountains.
The Heaven and Earth Primordial Qi between the mountains is several times denser than the outside world, and there is a Cave Heaven Blessed Land in the mountains where the Primordial Qi is even denser than in other parts of the mountains.
At the entrance of the Cave Heaven Blessed Land stands a stone stele with several large characters inscribed on it:
Qianyuan Mountain Golden Light Cave.
