Classroom of the elite: The Four elites

Chapter 3: start of class A

L's POV:

After spending some time exploring and analyzing the various parts of this clearly unique school, I made my way to the classroom assigned to me, Class A. From what I could gather, this was likely the top tier class for the first year students at least. I took my designated seat and immediately settled into my natural posture, my thumb lightly pressing against my lips as I scanned the room. My eyes moved across the interior of the classroom, taking in the layout of the space and noting the students already seated.

As my gaze swept over the room, I noticed something unusual peculiar, the cameras. Not just one, but multiple. After a minute or so of carefully observing, I realized the cameras were positioned strategically, covering every corner of the room where students would sit. The only area left uncovered, I could assume, was where the teacher would stand.

For a school of this magnitude, I suppose it made sense to monitor the students so thoroughly, but still, the setup felt a little too calculated, almost like there was more to it than met the eye.

With little else to learn from the cameras, my attention shifted to the individuals around me. Most of the seats were occupied, though there were a few vacant ones. I hadn't expected Light to be absent from Class A, he was never one to arrive late. His absence from this class clearly meant he had to be in a different class what was definitely odd, but I pushed the thought aside for the moment and continued to observe the others.

The students in this class appeared to be in excellent physical condition, well most of them. It was clear that many took pride in maintaining their bodies. A few others stood out as naturally gifted geniuses, it seemed. However, none of them appeared to be my intellectual equal, at least not from the students I have seen so far.

As I continued my quiet assessment, something caught my eye, it was a girl entering the classroom. She had lilac colored hair and striking violet eyes. She was walking with a cane, suggesting either a medical condition or perhaps just a simple injury. She also appeared smaller and frailer than most of the other students.

Yet, despite her delicate appearance, there was an aura surrounding her that no one else in the room seemed to possess. A subtle but undeniable aura of dominance. She carried herself with an air of confidence that suggested intelligence beyond her years. Without a doubt, I could already sense she would become the class leader if she wanted to be, and cause of that I couldn't help but feel a certain respect for her.

I hadn't expected anyone in Class A to stand out quite like this. While I knew there would be some brilliant minds here due to the school's reputation, I hadn't anticipated meeting someone who could possibly rival my own intellect. Of course, this was based purely on my intuition for now, but there was no mistaking the power she radiated. She would most likely lead Class A, considering the way she carried herself i could only expect such high things from her.

As I observed her further, a voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to the source of the sound, it was someone sitting next to me.

"It seems we'll be sitting next to each other for the next couple of years," the man said with a soft laugh.

I took him in, scanning his appearance. As my eyes met his, I couldn't help but feel my attention focus on his bald head. Was it natural, or had he shaved it intentionally? The thought briefly occupied my mind.

He broke my train of thought when he spoke again. "Well, anyway, my name's Katsuragi Kōhei. What's yours?"

"You want to know my name?" I replied, my voice emotionless. "It's... Rue Ryuzaki."

"Rue Ryuzaki, huh? It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, still a little perplexed by my composed demeanor and by the way I was looking at his bold head.

For a moment, I considered keeping to myself. But I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and engage in conversation with him for now.

I met his eyes directly. "Does this make you my first new school friend?" I asked, maintaining my usual, blank expression.

He looked somewhat confused. "I suppose if you want us to be, we can be."

Before more words could be exchanged, the bell rang, signaling the start of class. A middle aged man entered the room who seemed to be average height, with grey hair and green eyes. He introduced himself as our new instructor.

"My name is Mashima Tomonari, and I'll be your instructor for Class A over the next three years," he announced.

He went on to explain the class rules and some basic logistics. However, one particular detail caught my attention each student would be receiving 100,000 private points this month. Something that would be repeated each month thereafter.

The other students seemed shocked by the generous amount, reacting positively. But not everyone was so easily swayed. A few students, I noticed, seemed suspicious of the arrangement, why were they being given so much for doing so little?

I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. With so many cameras in the classroom and the amount of points being distributed, it seemed too deliberate, too controlled.

Doing the math in my head, I quickly calculated the cost. There were 160 students in the first year alone, split into four classes of 40. If each student received 100,000 points per month, that amounted to 16 million points each month, or 192 million points per year, just for the first year. Even if the government was funding it, it still struck me as strangely excessive as 100,000 points was equivalent to 100,000 yen per month.

"Does anyone have any questions?" Mashima asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

The girl with lilac hair raised her hand. "Do we all receive exactly 100,000 points each month?"

Mashima hesitated. "Unfortunately, I cannot give you a proper answer at this time."

"I see," she said, her voice calm and composed, as though she had anticipated this response.

"Any other questions?" he asked the class.

When no one responded, he dismissed us, urging everyone to head to the gymnasium on time.

As I stood up, I was interrupted again this time by Katsuragi.

"Hey, Ryuzaki," he said. "I'm planning on becoming the leader of Class A. What do you think?"

I studied him for a moment. He was well built, and for sure undoubtedly strong, but I could already tell he wasn't the type of leader Class A needed. He was someone who followed the rules too closely, too respectful and had traits that could end up being his downfall. He might be strong physically, but when it came to intellectual ability, he didn't compare to others and I knew which one I'd prefer.

Still, I decided to answer honestly, if somewhat bluntly.

"Hmmm, if I'm being honest, no," I said, my gaze now fixed on the front of the classroom.

He seemed disappointed, but didn't press further. "Well, I'll see you in the gymnasium," he said before turning to leave.

As he turned I was already on my way out, eager to avoid the brewing conflict between him and the girl, Arisu. They would no doubt start forming alliances soon, and the battle for Class A's leadership would soon begin. But I knew who the winner would be. There was no question about it.

I had no interest in getting involved. Instead, I decided to take a walk, explore the school further before heading to the gymnasium.

As I wandered through the halls, I caught sight of a few students heading the same way. But there was one in particular who stood out a boy, standing beside a girl with long black hair tied with a pink bow and gradient red eyes. I didn't focus on her, though. It was the boy next to her that caught my full attention.

Even from a simple glance, I could tell something was off about him. There was an unnatural quality to the way he carried himself, as if he was hiding something or perhaps even someone behind those eyes. In some strange way, he reminded me of myself.

I continued walking, but the image of that boy lingered in my mind. Something told me I'd be seeing more of him if I wanted to or not.

Ayanokoji's POV:

By the time I arrived at the ceremony, I stretched, feeling the familiar tension in my muscles loosen a little bit. Despite the rumors about this school being particularly grueling, the entrance ceremony was just like any other. The same formal speeches were made, the usual thank-yous from the higher-ups. I wasn't particularly interested in any of it, but my mind was couldn't help but be somewhere else.

The nagging feeling from earlier still lingered. That man with the baggy eyes the way he looked at me, it was as if he knew something. A fleeting glance, and yet, his stare felt knowing, as if he could see through all my layers and straight into my hidden truths. I needed to be cautious around him. There was something unsettling about the way he regarded me. It was as though he wasn't just seeing me, but understanding me in a way few ever could.

Leaving the classroom and heading toward the gymnasium, I casually asked Horikita to walk with me. To my surprise, she agreed without hesitation. The silence between us was comfortable, though I was aware of every passing moment.

As we walked, a boy caught my attention. He had a peculiar posture, as if burdened by some invisible weight, a stiff posture suggesting possible back pain maybe. I didn't think much of it at first, but from the corner of my eye, I noticed something odd, he seemed to be studying me. Not just casually observing, but analyzing, trying to discern something deeper about me.

I couldn't help but wonder: was he a possible threat?

Before I had time to fully process, my gaze locked with his. His eyes were deep almost hollow and it felt like he was staring into my very soul. The moment stretched longer than it should have, a quiet tension filling the air between us. I quickly looked away, determined not to make the encounter more awkward than it already was.

Still, the cold presence he exuded clung to me as we moved past him, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

"Do you know him?" Horikita asked, breaking my thoughts.

"I don't think so," I replied, deliberately keeping my voice neutral, as though I wasn't concerned about the brief encounter.

Could he have come from... that place? I dismissed the idea almost immediately. It was impossible. And yet, something about him made me think he wasn't all that different from me. A strange thought, one I quickly pushed away to the back of my mind for now.

Looking over at Horikita, I caught her smiling to herself, as if amused by something.

"Thinking about it," she said, a smirk forming on her lips, "you two would probably make perfect friends. You both seem like the lonely type."

Before I could respond, we arrived at the gymnasium, the conversation abruptly cut short as we made our way inside. We still had some time to spare, and the quiet atmosphere of the gym gave me a moment to collect my thoughts, though the strange boy's presence remained on my mind.

Lelouch's POV:

As I stepped out of the gymnasium, I noticed the majority of the students heading toward the dormitories, about 75%, if I had to make a simple guess. The remainder seemed to be breaking off into smaller groups, chatting among themselves or exploring the school's facilities. Some were just looking around, and some looking for someone to hang out with.

I decided the best course of action would be to head to the convenience store. Alone. My mind kept circling back to the same thought, my thesis had some weight behind it, and I needed supplies that would last to than just to make sure. Cheap, reliable, nothing too extravagant. As I walked in, scanning the shelves, I spotted a familiar face, Ichinose from my class who, it seemed, was also here for the same reason.

"Hi," I said, as I approached her, watching her inspect some utilities.

She seemed to be startled, her eyes widening slightly. "Oh, hi, Lelouch. You scared me a little. Haha," she said nervously, offering a shaky laugh.

I couldn't help but notice her gaze flicking over the cheaper options. "I see you're going for the more affordable choices."

"Well, yeah," she responded, her tone thoughtful. "I figured you were right. I'm just not sure that everyone else will listen to your advice. Some people might go all out."

"Speaking of other people," I said, glancing around, "I'm surprised you're not hanging out with anyone else."

Ichinose looked around briefly, her face lighting up with a soft smile. "Well, I'm actually meeting up with a few people from our class in a little bit. If you want, you should join me."

I shook my head. "Nah, I'm fine. I just want to settle in and rest for now."

"Your loss, I guess," she teased, chuckling as she turned back to the shelves.

We spent the next few minutes wandering the store together, talking idly about school, and picking through various items. As we passed through aisles, I noticed a few students from other classes loading up their baskets with expensive goods, clearly trying to grab the best of what they could. However, I didn't see anyone from our class indulging in the same way, which, for the moment, was a positive sign if anything. Ichinose, to her credit, seemed to be sticking to her plan of picking the most basic, budget friendly options what was a nice positive.

It wasn't long before we stumbled across a section of the store labeled as 'Free'. My suspicions were all but confirmed now.

"This alone should confirm my suspicions," I murmured.

Ichinose, standing next to me, frowned. "Wouldn't this mean that some people might not even get any points?" Her voice was tinged with a little concern.

"Possibly," I replied. "Depending on the school's policies, then yes."

Before we could continue discussing the implications of the section, a loud voice cut through the quiet store.

"Come on, hurry up. There's a line of people waiting on you!"

"Yeah? Well, if they have complaints, they can take it up with me!"

The argument was escalating. Two young men, both with glaring red eyes, stood near the register, the tension between them thick enough to be felt from across the store. They clearly wanted to fight, but before either could make a move, a third voice suddenly interjected between them.

"What's going on here?" A young man with brown hair, seemed to be my age, stepped in, his tone calm but firm.

"Huh, who are you?" one of the red-eyed boys snapped.

"My name is Ayanokouji," the brown-haired boy said, his voice casual. "I'm from your class. I just wanted to know what the problem was."

The boy with red hair looked confused for a moment, but then recognition sparked in his eyes. "Oh, right, I remember you now."

The confrontation seemed to defuse slightly as the red-eyed boy explained, "I forgot my student ID in my room."

"I can pay for you," the brown-haired boy offered, cutting through the tension. "It'd be a hassle to head back to the dorms and come back. Don't worry about it."

After a brief exchange, the brown haired boy, whose name I now learned was Ayanokouji, paid for the red eyed boy's items. From the bits of their conversation I overheard, the other boy's name appeared to be Sudo.

Ichinose, who had been silently watching the exchange, seemed just as intrigued by the whole scene. I glanced at her, but a quick look confirmed that neither of the two had anything of particular interest to me. I turned back to her as we continued shopping.

After we finished gathering the items we needed, we made our way to the register.

"Well, I guess this is why we're separate," I said with a light chuckle, trying to make the moment feel less awkward.

Ichinose didn't miss a beat. "Are you sure you don't want to join me and meet some people from class B?"

"Maybe another time," I replied, shaking my head. "Right now, I just want to check out my dorm and get some rest."

"Fine then," she said, pouting playfully. "Talk to you tomorrow."

She waved me off before heading toward the door, and I let out a soft sigh, watching the sky's fading light as I left the store. I paused for a moment, reflecting on the events of the day. As much as I had anticipated this school year, I couldn't shake the feeling that the next three years would be more of a drag than I'd hoped. Still, I supposed it wouldn't be so bad.
