Close Combat Summoner: The Way Of The Unrivaled

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Hunt

Argus knows that they may seek revenge at his house, so he did not return. He walks around the streets of the city and sees Rex surrounded by many thugs.

{Back to the Present}

After taking a bath, he notices that both of his eyes have changed. One of his eyes has now turned crimson. He is shocked, but when he thinks of one of his skills, he calms down immediately. Argus is currently looking at his status window.

"My mana status is 100, huh? Isn't this supposed to be around 30 or something? If Rex knows my mana capacity, he will probably be shocked. Is this the reason I'm stronger than them? Rex probably has a full 15 in all his stats. My stats are too abnormal, or should I say I'm too strong for a level zero awakener," Argus thinks.

"Why do I only have these auxiliary skills? I don't even have a single offensive skill. Well, I like fighting in close combat anyway, so these skills are perfect for me. As for my innate skills, what do these three skills mean? Isn't the skill description filled with question marks for a max-level skill?" Argus wonders.

"These two skills are the reason I can easily concentrate when doing something like training and reading, huh. As for intuition, it was a bit vague, but I have an idea. Forget it; let's study this skill if we have time," he decides.

"Tomorrow, I will go to the central city where the Arcana Hunter Academy is located. That thick-skinned guy will probably return too since there are many dungeons there," Argus thinks.

Argus then changes his clothes and heads to the teleportation station. Every new awakener student has free access to any teleportation agency once. Argus's destination is Stred Country. This is the second time he has been teleported, but he still feels a bit dizzy afterward.

[Welcome passengers, we have reached our destination: Stred City]

Coming out from the Teleportation Magic Circle, Argus is surprised by the number of people in the station. He sees different kinds of races he has never seen, like demihumans and the occasional elf. Hurrying to stay away from the station, he calls a taxi and asks the driver to take him to the Adventurer's Guild headquarters.

"Are you new here, young man?" the driver asks.

Argus nods.

"I'm not surprised. High school just ended this week, so many youngsters your age are traveling here since they want to enter the most prestigious academy. Are you also one of those?" the driver continues.

Argus shakes his head.

"All I can say is good luck, young man."

The driver does not say anything more, sensing that Argus is not a talkative person. Not long after, Argus reaches his destination. After paying the driver, he gets out of the car and looks at the large building in front of him, packed with many awakeners.

The Adventurer's Guild is located near the Main Entrance of Stred Country. They say that the Guild is the vanguard in case something bad happens. Stred Country is surrounded by a vast area of forest, mountains, and valleys, making it rich in resources. The Main Gate of Stred Country faces north.

There is a large emblem shaped like a huge pentagon shield with a symbol of a sword and a book in the center. This is the headquarters of the Adventurer's Guild.

Some awakeners even have blood on their bodies, indicating that they have just finished a hunting mission. After observing for a while, Argus decides to enter the Adventurer's Guild. He lines up in a queue and notices that some people are wearing cloaks and masks.

Argus also plans to register his name and get another ID for his alternate identity. He waits for half an hour until it's his turn. He is greeted by a beautiful demihuman rabbit receptionist.

"Hello, young man. How can I help you?" she asks.

"I want to register as an adventurer," Argus replies.

"Please put your hand on this justice orb," she instructs.

Argus places his hand on the orb. The orb, called a justice orb, checks if he is one of the wanted criminals. It emits red light if one is a criminal and white light if one is innocent. The orb shines with white light.

"Now, what name do you want to register on your adventurer's card? After that, please drop some blood on it," the receptionist says.

Argus follows her instructions and writes his name.

"Do you want me to introduce you to the important things to remember in our guild?" she offers.

"No need. Thank you," Argus responds.

"Then here's your adventurer's card."

Argus checks the card to ensure there are no errors. The card is brown. The guild card color changes as you raise your rank: from G to SSS rank: Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, Black.

"Is the card content correct?" the receptionist asks.

"Yes, thank you," Argus replies.

Argus then leaves the guild. He finds a dark alley, puts on a cloak and a mask, and re-enters the guild. After a while, he comes out with another card in hand.

Adventurer's Card

Name: Fallen

Race: Human

Level: 0

Job Class: Beast Summoner

Rank: G

Completed Mission: None

Current Mission:

[Hunt 100 Horned Rabbits (G)]

[Hunt 100 Wild Chickens (G)]

[Hunt 1000 Slimes (G)]

This is his hidden identity. He chose the name Fallen since he was born in the fall season. An adventurer can only take on missions that are equal to or lower than their rank. If you have a party, you can take on one rank higher than your party rank. There are rare cases of a solo adventurer completing a mission one rank higher than their rank, but those cases are special.

"Now it's time to hunt and level up," Argus thinks.

He already asked the receptionist where to hunt for the quests he has. According to her, chickens and slimes can be found about 5 km north of the Main Gate, while the horned rabbits are a bit deeper than where the slimes and chickens are.

He removes his cloak and mask, then dashes outside. Argus slows down as he reaches his destination and observes his surroundings.

"It looks like there aren't many monsters here in the periphery. It's near the entrance, so maybe they clean this part once in a while."

After walking a little, he hears the sound of a chicken.

Bak-bak-bak

Argus tries to use his skill.

Argus then notices that the chicken's head has a red dot.

'Weakness, huh,' Argus thinks.

Argus dashes forward with his spear in hand. The chicken sees him and tries to run, but Argus is faster. Using his spear, he pierces the chicken's head.

+5 EXP

'The chicken's reaction was slow, or am I just fast?'

Looking at his status window, he sees that the level percentage has increased by 5%.

"So I need to hunt 19 more chickens to level up. Let's continue."

"Oh, I've leveled up... +10 Mana?! What's happening? Only those with a Special Race can increase their Mana by more than 5 at each level up. Is this due to my physique, my class, or maybe both?"

Argus thought deeply about it but couldn't reach a conclusion. After a while, he decided to accept it; having more Mana wasn't a bad thing, even if he currently couldn't manipulate it due to his rank.

Every awakener has a different Mana capacity after awakening. Normal awakeners have between 10 to 15 Mana, elite awakeners range from 16 to 20 Mana, and special awakeners—often referred to as geniuses—have between 21 to 30 Mana. There are even monster geniuses who boast Mana levels of 31 to 50, but no one has reached 100 like him.
