Chapter 240: Ancient Killing Formation!

"There’s a message from the control room!"

"Professor Hena will be here soon!"

"Team 29 broke the rules and needs to be arrested!"

"Okay, I’ll go stop them!"

The rescue staff following Luis and Kress’ team didn’t have time to come forward. They found Cobert had already taken action and took down Kress and his team, who were about to wear concealment cloaks and escape.

"…"

"It seems the students themselves are very capable."

"I’ll stay here and watch them. You go follow those three to the cave and try to prevent any accidents!"

"Okay!"

*Whoosh *

---

The sudden attack shocked Kress. By the time he realized, his companions had already been knocked out.

"Who is it? Why are you attacking us?!"

Kress shouts, looking around with caution, trying to find the attacker. He tried to take a fighting stance, but found that his limbs didn’t respond as he wished. His body fell straight, facing the muddy ground, and the gas mask almost fell off his face.

"What’s going on?! Am I poisoned?"

He exclaimed in horror. He wanted to take out an antidote from his mana bracelet, but couldn’t move his limbs.

’Shit!’

Unwilling to give up, he put in all his efforts in moving his limbs, but to no avail.

Right at that moment, a familiar lazy voice sounded in his ears, making his ears twitch and eyes widen.

"*Yawn~ *Don’t waste your efforts and lie down there honestly."

"It’s you!"

Kress recognized Cobert and said through gritted teeth.

"Why did you attack us?! Are you going to break the deal?!"

"Is this what Mr. Luis or…"

"Okay! Stop right now!"

After yawning, Cobert stopped Kress from continuing his words and spoke. "I’m not Luis, and am not very fond of acting."

"To play along in this kind of drama is only his poor taste."

"Tsk~ Tsk~"

As he spoke, he couldn’t help clicking his tongue in annoyance.

"Acting?! Play along?!" Kress’ pupils contracted in shock and he mumbled in an unbelievable tone. "Did you already know?"

"Of course! Do you think we are blind?" Cobert’s confident tone silenced him.

"…"

"Anyway, I stayed behind to capture you."

"… Is that so?"

Kress mumbled in a muffled voice. Then let out a sharp, maniacal laughter.

"Hehe Haha ha!"

Cobert rubbed his brows.

"Is this guy going crazy?"

Just when he thought so, he heard Kress’ words full of arrogance.

"So, what if you noticed something?! In the end, you still fell into the trap! Hahaha! They can’t escape! Only death is their inevitable outcome!"

Kress was observing Cobert mockingly, waiting for that look of despair. But to his disappointment, Cobert’s face was as expressionless as ever. The laziness in his eyes didn’t fade one bit. As if he never cared about their safety.

"You!"

Just when he wanted to ask, he heard Cobert speak.

"Are you so confident that the person behind you can safely take you out of the academy? Do you think this person is more capable than the academy?"

Kress’ eyes widened, and a scarlet light flashed past his dull pupils. Although, only for a moment. It wasn’t unnoticed by Cobert.

’I see. No wonder they were easily fooled.’

After finding the answers to his doubts, Cobert didn’t bother to continue the conversation and knocked them out.

He leaned against a tree with a thoughtful look.

’Purple Konjac… Mount El’brus...’

’How nostalgic…’

He glanced towards the cave.

’I really hope you die in there…’

Then he sighed.

’… But my instinct tells me it’s impossible.’

Inside the cave, just after Luis and the girls were fighting the Veno Bats. A red fog shrouded them, and a barrier appeared, surrounding the entire cave. Even the rescue staff was blocked outside by the barrier.

"What?!"

Bonnie’s exclamation attracted Luis and Sufi’s attention.

"A formation?"

Sufi’s brows condensed, and she warily observed the red fog while killing the Veno-Bats.

"Electric Net!"

*Sizzle !~*

With Luis’ chant, a blue electric net spread out in the air, covering all the Veno-Bats near them and roasting them to death.

This move helped them clear out a large area around them and let Luis have enough time to take a breath. Just so, he could observe the surrounding changes.

"It’s a killing formation!" Luis uttered while thoughtfully observing the red fog becoming denser with every second past.

"Do you understand this?" Sufi asked in a grim tone while keeping the Veno Bats at bay using her spells.

"Yeah." Nodding affirmatively, Luis explained, while thoughtfully rubbing his chin.

"It’s an ancient killing formation, known as ’Kumbhipakam Death Vessel’. The red fog represents the activation of the formation. The cave should now be surrounded by a powerful barrier to stop our escape. After the start of the formation, when every time a life inside the formation is killed, the red fog with become denser and the formation will become even stronger."

"What?!"

Shocked, Bonnie interrupted Luis’ explanation and complained anxiously. "Then why didn’t you stop us?! We have already killed so many Veno Bats after the red fog appeared!"

Her hand holding the hammer couldn’t help but hesitate when she was about to smash the injured Veno Bat in front of her.

*Woosh~*

Sufi shot a fireball at the Veno Bat and scolded Bonnie in a cold tone.

"Even if you don’t kill them, they won’t wait for us to leave the cave! They will definitely attack us! So, stop arguing!"

Bonnie was stunned for a moment, then came back to her senses.

Yeah, they have no choice but to kill these monsters. Otherwise, they will die.

Although clarity dawned on her, the worry didn’t diminish.

"Luis, what will happen when the formation becomes stronger?" She asked in a cautious tone.

"Well," Luis was still thoughtfully observing the surroundings, as if searching for something, and answered to her doubt in an indifferent tone.

"This red fog will turn the blood of these dead Veno Bats into a powerful corrosive acid. The temperature inside the cave will start rising within 5 minutes. The corrosive acid will turn into corrosive steam, burning our clothes and skin, and torturing us with excruciating pain. If lucky, we die from corrosion, or…"

Luis paused.

"!!!"

Horrified by his explanation, Bonnie and Sufi gulped in unison. Sufi tried to calm her nervous heart and asked. "Or what?!"

Luis turned back to look at them and continued.

"Or we wait to be boiled alive as the temperature inside the cave reaches the boiling point of magma by half an hour!"
