Conqueror Of The Four World

Chapter 9: The Rescued And The Sword Awakening

Huh, where am I?

Xian Yu looked down at his chest, now covered in bandages. Who put these on me? he wondered in surprise.

"Big sister! Big brother woke up!" shouted a little girl.

Xian Yu realized he was in a small, dirty room. Where is this? I remember fighting the Savage Bandits… Then, I collapsed and lost consciousness.

His eyes darted around urgently. My sword! He spotted the Ebon Blade lying beside his bed. He sighed in relief.

"How are you feeling, big brother?" asked the little girl, stepping closer.

Xian Yu, still surprised, asked, "Who are you, little one? And where am I?"

"This is where we were held captive by the bandits, but we escaped last night thanks to you, big brother!" The girl's face was full of joy despite her tattered clothes and pale complexion. She held out a small pot of rice porridge. "Here, big brother. Please eat some—you need to recover."

Xian Yu felt a pang in his heart. She's clearly starving herself, yet she's offering this to me?

He smiled and gently refused, "I'm full of energy. Why don't you eat it instead, little one?"

"But big brother, big sister cooked this for you! You saved us—how can I…" Her voice trembled, tears welling up in her eyes.

Xian Yu chuckled, scooped a spoonful, and fed it to her. "Don't worry about it," he said warmly. The little girl was surprised, but after Xian Yu insisted, she finally ate.

A tall yet frail woman entered through the doorway.

"She's been so happy since we escaped that cell," the woman said. She turned to Xian Yu with gratitude. "Please don't be surprised, savior. I want to thank you on behalf of all of us. If not for you killing that monster, we had lost all hope of freedom."

Xian Yu realized these were the women the bandit leader had spoken about.

"All I did was kill the bandits. Saving you was just the result of that," he replied indifferently.

"You are still our savior, big brother," the little girl said brightly. "I'm finally free to see the world! I can't wait to see the sun and enjoy nature. My mother used to tell me all about those things."

Xian Yu looked at the tall woman in surprise.

"She was born and raised in that prison," the woman explained, her voice heavy with sorrow. "Her mother was killed by one of the bandits."

Savages. If I could, I'd kill them over and over again, Xian Yu thought darkly.

He turned to the little girl, who was eating her porridge with a joyful face, though small tears trickled down her cheeks.

"What's your name, little one?" he asked.

"My mother used to call me Jing Yu," she said softly. "She told me she would find a better home for us… but she hasn't come back in over a year." Tears dripped onto her lap.

Xian Yu's heart ached. Such innocence in a world so cruel.

"Little Yu, here—wear this all the time. It's a gift from your big brother."

Xian Yu handed her a locket made from his spiritual energy.

"Wow! Big brother, can I really have this?" she gasped in excitement.

"Of course."

Beaming with joy, she immediately put it on and ran outside. "I'm going to show the others!"

"How long was I unconscious?" Xian Yu asked the tall woman.

"A full day," she replied.

"Hmm. Can you take me to the place where you found me?"

"Of course, savior. Please follow me."

As they walked through the settlement, many survivors greeted him with gratitude. When they arrived at the battlefield, the corpses of the bandits were still scattered about, blood staining the ground.

"You can go now," Xian Yu said. "I have something to take care of here."

The woman bowed and left.

Xian Yu unsheathed his sword. The black mist that usually emerged was absent. Surprised, he focused his spiritual energy into the blade. Suddenly, the black mist poured out, engulfing the corpses.

But then—

The Ebon Blade gleamed with a golden aura, and a powerful force erupted from it. Xian Yu's eyes widened in shock.

What just happened?

He grabbed the sword, examining it closely.

This aura… it's definitely beyond perfect grade. A supreme-grade sword?!

Realization struck him like lightning. So this sword upgrades itself by absorbing the dead.

His breath quickened. A supreme-grade sword… I don't think even the Five Empires possess one. Just what kind of weapon did the Blood Emperor wield back then? Could it have been a heavenly-grade sword?

Cold sweat formed on his brow.

No matter. I'll definitely raise you to the heavenly-grade one day!

A chuckle escaped his lips, growing into a hearty laugh.

"Big brother, what are you doing here?"

Jing Yu ran toward him.

"Hahaha, don't worry about it, Little Yu. Let's go back."

He picked her up and carried her home.

"By the way, big brother, do you have to scream your attack name before using it?"

Xian Yu almost tripped. "What do you mean?"

"I heard you shouting 'Ember Slash! Blazing fang!' while fighting. So, I got curious!" she said innocently.

Xian Yu's face darkened in embarrassment.

"A great man always shouts his attack name before attacking," he declared with a straight face, trying to hide his shame.

"Really, big brother? Then I'll always shout my attacks too! I want to be as cool as you!"

"Hahaha! Don't worry, Little Yu. You'll definitely be as cool as me one day!" Xian Yu laughed, his head held high.

Two Days Later

After fully recovering, it was time for Xian Yu to depart.

Before leaving, he handed 1,000 gold coins to the woman leading the survivors.

"Take this money. There's a city nearby—if you follow this path, you'll reach it by evening. Also, keep this talisman with you until you arrive. It will keep you all safe," he said, handing her a protective talisman.

The woman bowed deeply. "Thank you, savior."

"Big brother, are you really leaving?" Jing Yu's eyes welled up with tears.

"Don't cry, Little Yu," Xian Yu reassured her, patting her head. "I'll visit you in the future. Until then, be as cool as this big brother!"

Jing Yu nodded, though her face was full of sorrow.

"And remember—never take off the locket I gave you. Always wear it, okay?"

She clutched the locket tightly. "Okay, big brother!"

Xian Yu took a final glance at the survivors.

Then, without another word, he disappeared into the depths of the forest.
