Creating The Strongest Familia In Danmachi

Chapter 18: Chapter 18

As Lunamon and I stepped through the portal back to the apartment, I was greeted by Hestia's warm smile. "Welcome back, you two!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. But as I met her gaze, I saw her expression shift, her brows furrowing with concern.

"David, is everything alright?" Hestia asked, her voice laced with worry.

It was then that I noticed my hands were trembling. I stared at them, puzzled, as they shook uncontrollably. I hadn't even realized it until Hestia pointed it out.

"I-I'm not sure," I stammered, trying to still my hands, but the shaking only seemed to worsen. "Something happened in the Dungeon, but I..."

Hestia stepped closer, her delicate fingers gently grasping my hands. "Tell us what happened, David. Lunamon and I are here for you."

Lunamon emerged from my Digivice, her large, expressive eyes filled with worry. "David, please, let us help you."

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. "I...I was ambushed by some thugs from the Soma Familia. They tried to rob me, but I..." My voice trailed off as the memories of the confrontation flooded my mind.

Hestia's grip on my hands tightened, her expression a mix of concern and compassion. "Oh, David, you poor thing. You must have been so frightened."

I shook my head, forcing a smile. "No, I wasn't afraid. I used my ghost powers to fight them off. They didn't stand a chance."

Hestia's brows furrowed, and she searched my eyes. "Then why are you shaking, David? What happened?"

I averted my gaze, the guilt weighing heavily on my conscience. "I... I didn't stop them. I left them there, in the Dungeon. I knew the monsters would get them, but I just..." My voice broke, and I felt a lump forming in my throat.

Hestia's eyes widened with realization, and she pulled me into a tight embrace. "Oh, David," she whispered, her voice soft and soothing. "This was the first time you took a life, wasn't it?"

I nodded, my arms wrapping around Hestia as the tears finally spilled over. "I could have saved them, but I didn't. I just... let them die."

Hestia held me tightly, her fingers gently combing through my hair. "It's not your fault, David. You were just trying to protect yourself. But I understand why you're feeling this way."

Hestia's embrace enveloped me, her warmth and kindness seeping into my trembling body. She knew I wasn't from this harsh world, that I came from a place where violence and death weren't so commonplace.

"It's okay, David," she whispered, her fingers gently running through my hair. "You're not used to this. But it's not your fault. You were just trying to protect yourself."

I clung to her, the tears flowing freely down my cheeks. "I could have saved them, Hestia. I had the power to, but I just..." My voice cracked as the guilt threatened to consume me.

"Shh, it's alright," Hestia soothed, her embrace tightening. "You're not a killer, David. My world is just...different from Earth. But I'm here for you. I'll be with you until you get through this."

Lunamon approached, her large eyes filled with empathy. "David, you did what you had to do. Sometimes there are no easy choices." She placed a paw on my arm, offering her own comfort.

I took a shuddering breath, finding solace in the warmth of Hestia's arms and the understanding in Lunamon's gaze. "Thank you, both of you. I... I don't know what I'd do without you."

Hestia pulled back slightly, cupping my face in her hands. "You don't have to face this alone, David. We're a family, and we'll get through it together." She pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead, her tender gesture easing the turmoil in my heart.

I nodded, allowing myself to bask in the love and acceptance radiating from these two incredible beings. At this moment, I felt safe and secure in the knowledge that Hestia and Lunamon would be by my side.

After a few moments, my hands finally stopped shaking. Hestia gently squeezed them, her eyes searching mine. "Are you feeling better now, David?"

I nodded, offering her a small smile. "Yes, I am. Thank you, Hestia, Lunamon. I don't know what I'd do without you two."

Hestia returned my smile, her eyes shining with warmth. "We're here for you, David. Always." She then glanced over at the entertainment system in the corner of the room. "Say, how about we play a game on that Switch of yours? I've been wanting to try it out."

The suggestion instantly lifted my spirits, and I felt a spark of excitement. "Alright, Hestia. I've got some fun games we can try." I gently extricated myself from her embrace and moved towards the console, eager to share this bit of Earth culture with my goddess companion.

Hestia clapped her hands together, her eyes alight with curiosity. "Wonderful! I can't wait to see what kind of adventures these games have in store for us."

Lunamon joined us, her fluffy ears perking up. "Games? I'm intrigued. Please, teach me how to play as well."

I chuckled, already feeling the weight of my earlier experience lifting from my shoulders. "Of course, Lunamon. We'll all play together. I think you're really going to enjoy it."

As I set up the Switch and handed Hestia a controller, I felt a renewed sense of determination. This was my home, and these were the people I cared about. With their support, I knew I could overcome any challenge that came my way.

Two weeks have passed since my encounter with the Soma Familia members, and I've slowly come to terms with what happened. Hestia and Lunamon have been incredibly supportive, helping me work through the guilt and unease I felt over taking those lives, even if it was in self-defense.

Today, I've decided to take a much-needed break from delving into the Dungeon. I'm currently lounging on the couch in our modest apartment, flipping through channels on the TV. Hestia is curled up next to me, her head resting on my shoulder as she watches with rapt attention.

"Ooh, what's this one about?" she asks, pointing at the screen.

I glance over at the cooking show playing. "It's a program about making different types of food. The host is showing how to prepare a fancy French dish right now."

Hestia's eyes widen with fascination. "French food, huh? Do they use a lot of butter in their cooking?"

I chuckle. "Yeah, they tend to use quite a bit of butter and cream. It makes the food really rich and flavorful."

She hums contemplatively. "Hmm, I'll have to try making something like that. Maybe we can go shopping for the ingredients later."

"Sounds good to me," I reply, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I'm sure you'll whip up something delicious."

Lunamon pads over from the kitchen, where she had been snacking on some fruit. "What are you two talking about?"

"Hestia wants to try her hand at making a fancy French dish," I explain. "We might go shopping for the ingredients later."

Lunamon's ears perk up. "Ooh, can I help? I'd love to learn how to cook more Earth foods."

Hestia beams at her. "Of course, Lunamon! The more the merrier." She then turns to me, her expression softening. "I'm glad you're taking a break today, David. You've been working so hard in the Dungeon."

I nod, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. "Yeah, it's been nice to just relax for a bit. Having you two here makes it even better."

Hestia's eyes suddenly lit up as she turned to me. "Oh, that reminds me! The Banquet of the Gods is coming up soon."

"The Banquet of the Gods?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. "What's that?"

"It's an event hosted by the Ganesha Familia where all the gods in Orario gather to eat, drink, and socialize," Hestia explained, a hint of excitement in her voice. "It's a rare chance for the deities to get together and enjoy each other's company."

I nodded, intrigued by the concept. "So all the gods in Orario will be there? That sounds like it could be...interesting."

Hestia giggled. "Oh, it's always quite the spectacle. The gods can get a little rowdy when they're all together. But it's also a chance for us to catch up and share the latest news from our Familias."

"Hmm, I see." I stroked my chin thoughtfully. "And you'll be attending this banquet as well?"

"Of course you can come with me, David!" Hestia exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "The Banquet of the Gods is usually just for us deities, but this time, Familia members are allowed to attend as well."

I felt a grin spread across my face. "Really? That's amazing! I'd love to go with you, Hestia." The prospect of attending a gathering of the gods was both thrilling and a bit daunting.

Hestia clasped her hands together, a mischievous glint in her eye. "And just wait until I see Loki there. I can't wait to brag about how you're already stronger than her precious Aiz Wallenstein!"

I chuckled, shaking my head in amusement. "I don't know about that, Hestia. Aiz is pretty impressive, from what I've seen in the anime. But I'll do my best to make you proud."

The anticipation bubbled within me as I thought about the upcoming event. Attending a gathering of the gods themselves was sure to be an unforgettable experience. I couldn't wait to see what kind of spectacle it would be, and to stand by Hestia's side as her Familia member.

"When is the banquet, Hestia?" I asked, eager for more details.

Hestia tapped her chin thoughtfully. "If I remember correctly, it's in a few days' time. We'll need to make sure we're all prepared and looking our best."

I nodded, already mentally running through a list of things we might need to do to get ready. This was an opportunity I couldn't pass up, and I was determined to make the most of it.

I turned to Hestia, a thought suddenly occurring to me. "Hey, Hestia, will the attire for this Banquet of the Gods be formal?"

Hestia nodded, a hint of excitement in her voice. "Yes, it's a very prestigious event, so we'll need to dress up nicely. The gods always like to look their best for these occasions."

I rubbed my chin, considering our options. "Hmm, in that case, why don't we go out and find you a nice dress to wear? I'd be happy to take you shopping."

Hestia's eyes widened, and she clasped her hands together. "Oh, David, that's a wonderful idea! I've been wanting to explore more of your world and see the different fashions. This is the perfect opportunity!"

Lunamon perked up, her ears twitching with interest. "Can I come too? I'd love to see the dress shops and help Hestia pick something out."

I chuckled and reached over to give Lunamon's head a gentle pat. "Of course, Lunamon. The more the merrier. Let's make a day of it and find Hestia the perfect outfit for the banquet."

Hestia bounced excitedly on the couch, her divine energy practically palpable. "This is going to be so much fun! I can't wait to see all the different dresses and accessories. And just think, I'll be the most stylish goddess at the banquet!"

I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "Well then, what are we waiting for? Let's get ready and head out."

Lunamon and I helped Hestia prepare, making sure she had a comfortable pair of shoes to wear and that she was properly bundled up against the chilly autumn air. Once we were all set, we went to the mall to shop.

As we stepped through the mall's automatic doors, the sheer size and scale of the place left Hestia in awe. Her eyes darted around, taking in the towering ceilings, the gleaming floors, and the bustling crowds of people.

"Wow, David-kun, this place is incredible!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with wonder. "There are so many shops and people! It's nothing like Orario."

I chuckled, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "This is just the beginning, Hestia. Wait until you see some of the high-end fashion stores."

Hestia's eyes widened, and she bounced on the balls of her feet. "High-end fashion? Oh, I can't wait! Lead the way, David-kun!"

I guided Hestia through the maze of stores, Lunamon peeking out from the Digivice with equal curiosity. Finally, we arrived at a luxurious boutique, its window displays showcasing the latest designer dresses.

"Here we are," I announced, gesturing to the store. "This is one of the more upscale places in the mall. They should have plenty of options for your banquet dress."

Hestia's eyes sparkled with excitement as she peered through the glass, taking in the exquisite gowns on display. "It's all so beautiful! I can't wait to try some on."

I held the door open for Hestia, and she practically skipped inside, her enthusiasm infectious. The boutique's interior was just as lavish, with plush carpeting and crystal chandeliers overhead.

A well-dressed sales associate approached us, her eyes widening as she recognized Hestia's divine aura. "Welcome, distinguished guests. How may I assist you today?"

Hestia beamed, clasping her hands together. "I'm in need of a stunning dress for a very special event. Do you have anything that would be fitting for a goddess?"

The sales associate's lips curled into a polite smile. "Of course, madam. Please, allow me to show you our latest collection."

I followed Hestia and the sales associate as they made their way deeper into the boutique. The rows of gowns and dresses were a dazzling array of colors, fabrics, and designs. Hestia's eyes sparkled with delight as she ran her fingers along the delicate materials.

"These are all so beautiful," she breathed, her voice soft with wonder. "I don't know where to begin."

The sales associate smiled warmly. "Take your time, madam. We have a wide selection to choose from. Perhaps we could start by getting a sense of your personal style and the occasion you'll be attending?"

Hestia turned to me, her eyes pleading. "David-kun, what do you think would be best? I want to make a good impression at the Banquet of the Gods."

I scratched the back of my neck, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "Well, uh, I think you'd look amazing in just about anything, Hestia. But maybe we could find something that's both elegant and reflects your, um, unique charm?"

Hestia beamed at me, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Unique charm, huh? I like the sound of that." She turned back to the sales associate. "Do you have anything that's eye-catching but still tasteful?"

The sales associate nodded, a knowing smile on her face. "I believe I have just the dress in mind." She gestured for us to follow as she led the way through the racks.

The sales associate led us to a secluded corner of the boutique, where a stunning array of dresses hung in a dazzling display. Hestia's eyes grew wide with excitement as she ran her fingers along the delicate fabrics.

"Oh, David-kun, look at these!" she exclaimed, her voice brimming with delight. "They're all so beautiful."

I watched as Hestia carefully examined each dress, occasionally pulling one out to hold it against her petite frame. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself growing increasingly eager to see her in the perfect gown.

"This one has such a lovely color," she mused, holding up a deep blue dress adorned with intricate silver embroidery. "What do you think, David-kun?"

I felt my mouth go dry as I took in the sight of Hestia standing there, the dress accentuating her curves in all the right places. "I, uh, I think it's beautiful," I managed to stammer, my cheeks flushing with heat.

Hestia beamed, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Then I simply must try it on!" She quickly disappeared behind a curtain, leaving me to wait with bated breath.

Moments later, Hestia emerged, the dress hugging her figure in a way that left me utterly captivated. The deep blue hue complemented her pale skin and raven hair, and the silver embroidery seemed to shimmer under the boutique's soft lighting.

"Well, David-kun?" Hestia asked, twirling gracefully. "What do you think?"

I swallowed hard, struggling to find the right words. "Hestia, you look... absolutely stunning."

Her smile widened, and she took a step closer, her eyes locked onto mine. "You really think so?"

I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. "Definitely. You're going to be the most beautiful goddess at the Banquet."

Hestia let out a delighted laugh, her cheeks flushed with pride. "Then this is the one!" She turned to the sales associate, who had been watching our exchange with a knowing smile. "I'll take it."

As the sales associate went to retrieve the dress, Hestia stepped back in front of me, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "You know, David-kun, I'm glad you approve. I want to look my absolute best for the Banquet... and for you."

I felt my face grow even hotter, and I opened my mouth to respond, but the words caught in my throat. Hestia simply giggled, her gaze holding mine captive.

"Alright, David-kun, it's your turn now," Hestia said, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "We need to find you the perfect suit for the Banquet."

I felt a flutter of nerves in my stomach, but I tried to hide it behind a confident smile. "Lead the way, Hestia. I trust your fashion sense."

Hestia's grin widened, and she took my hand, guiding me deeper into the boutique. Lunamon peeked out from the Digivice, her large eyes filled with curiosity.

"Now, let's see what we can find for you," Hestia mused, her gaze scanning the racks of suits. "Hmm, perhaps something in a dark color? To complement my dress, of course."

I nodded, letting Hestia take the lead. She moved from one display to the next, carefully examining each option. Finally, her face lit up, and she pulled out a sleek, charcoal gray suit.

"This one, David-kun!" she exclaimed, holding it up against my frame. "It'll look absolutely dashing on you."

I couldn't help but chuckle at her enthusiasm. "If you say so, Hestia. I'm in your capable hands."

Hestia beamed, her fingers tracing the lapels of the suit. "I knew you'd trust me. Now, let's get you fitted!"

With that, she ushered me into a private dressing room, Lunamon scurrying after us. As I slipped into the suit, Hestia waited outside, her voice occasionally calling out instructions or suggestions.

When I finally emerged, Hestia's eyes widened, and she let out a delighted gasp. "Oh, David-kun, you look so handsome!"

I felt my cheeks heat up at her praise, and I self-consciously adjusted the cuffs of the jacket. "You really think so?"

Hestia nodded enthusiastically, her fingers tracing the lapels once more. "Absolutely. This suit was made for you."

I looked down at the charcoal gray suit, admiring how the tailored cut accentuated my frame. The fabric was smooth and luxurious, with a subtle sheen that caught the light. As I adjusted the cuffs, I couldn't help but feel a sense of confidence wash over me. Hestia was right - this suit was made for me.

I couldn't help but smile, feeling a surge of confidence under Hestia's admiring gaze. "Well, then I guess we have our outfits for the Banquet."

Hestia beamed, her hand slipping into mine. "Indeed we do. And I can't wait to see the looks on everyone's faces when we arrive."

As Hestia and I approached the counter, I could see the dress and suit draped over the sales associate's arm, ready to be rung up. I braced myself, knowing the final cost would likely be staggering.

"Alright, let's see the damage," I said with a chuckle, reaching into my pocket for my wallet.

The sales associate recited the total, and I watched as Hestia's eyes widened in surprise.

"Oh my, David-kun, that's quite expensive," she murmured, her brow furrowing slightly. "Are you sure this is alright?"

I flashed her a reassuring smile. "Of course, Hestia. Don't worry about the cost. I'm more than happy to treat you to something this special."

Hestia's expression softened, and she squeezed my arm affectionately. "You're too kind, David-kun. But I don't want you to overexert yourself in the Dungeon just for this."

I chuckled, handing over the appropriate amount to the sales associate. "It's no trouble at all. Besides, you deserve to look your absolute best at the Banquet. And if that means a little extra time in the Dungeon, then so be it."

Hestia's cheeks flushed with a hint of pink, and she gazed up at me with a tender smile. "You really are wonderful, David-kun. I don't know what I'd do without you."

I felt a surge of warmth in my chest at her words, and I gently squeezed her hand. "And I don't know what I'd do without you, Hestia. This is the least I can do to show my appreciation."

The sales associate cleared her throat, drawing our attention back to the task at hand. "Your items are all ready, sir. Shall I have them wrapped for you?"

"Yes, please," I replied, glancing down at Hestia. "I want to make sure this dress arrives at the Banquet in perfect condition."

Hestia beamed up at me, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, David-kun. You're truly the best."

I turned to Hestia, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of my lips. "You know, Hestia, I have one more stop in mind before we head back."

Hestia's eyes widened with curiosity. "Oh? And where might that be, David-kun?"

"Well," I began, leading her towards the exit of the boutique, "I was thinking a quick trip to the jewelry store might be in order."

Hestia's steps faltered, and she looked up at me with a mix of surprise and delight. "A jewelry store? David-kun, you shouldn't have!"

I chuckled, gently guiding her through the bustling mall. "Consider it a little something extra for the Banquet. I want you to look your absolute best."

Hestia's cheeks flushed with a soft pink hue, and she squeezed my arm affectionately. "You're too kind, David-kun. But you really don't have to-"

"Ah, ah," I interrupted, raising a finger to silence her. "No arguments. This is my treat, and I insist."

Hestia's lips curved into a warm smile, and she nodded in acquiescence. "Very well, David-kun. Lead the way."

I led Hestia through the crowded mall, navigating the winding paths until we reached a gleaming storefront adorned with sparkling displays. Lunamon poked her head out of the Digivice, her eyes wide with wonder.

"Here we are," I announced, holding the door open for Hestia. "After you, my dear goddess."

Hestia's eyes sparkled with delight as she stepped into the jewelry store, her gaze immediately drawn to the dazzling array of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Lunamon let out a soft gasp, her attention equally captivated by the shimmering gems.

A well-dressed salesperson approached us, a warm smile on their face. "Welcome, how may I assist you today?"

I placed a gentle hand on Hestia's back, guiding her forward. "My goddess here is in need of a very special necklace for an upcoming event. Something that will truly make her shine."

Hestia's cheeks flushed, and she glanced up at me with a shy smile. "David-kun, you really don't have to-"

I raised a hand, silencing her once more. "Hestia, please. Let me do this for you."

The salesperson nodded, their gaze shifting between Hestia and me. "Certainly, sir. If you'll follow me, I believe I have the perfect piece in mind."

We followed the salesperson to a display case filled with an array of exquisite necklaces, each one more stunning than the last. Hestia's eyes grew wide as she leaned in, her fingers tracing the delicate designs.

"Oh, David-kun, they're all so beautiful," she breathed, her voice soft with wonder.

The salesperson chuckled, gesturing to a particular necklace. "This one, in particular, I believe would complement your goddess' beauty perfectly."

I leaned in, my breath catching in my throat as I laid eyes on the necklace. It was a stunning pendant, a crescent moon made of shimmering silver that caught the light and seemed to dance with an ethereal glow. Intricate filigree work adorned the edges, giving it an elegant, otherworldly appearance.

"It's perfect," I murmured, my gaze shifting to Hestia's face. "Hestia, what do you think?"

Hestia's eyes were wide with awe, her fingers hovering just above the necklace's surface. "David-kun, it's... it's absolutely breathtaking."

I smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Then it's settled. We'll take it."

The salesperson nodded, carefully removing the necklace from the display. "Excellent choice, sir. Allow me to wrap this up for you."

As the salesperson disappeared to prepare the necklace, I turned to Hestia, my heart swelling with affection. "Hestia, I hope you know how much you mean to me. You deserve nothing but the best."

Hestia's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and she reached up to gently caress my cheek. "Oh, David-kun, you truly are the most wonderful person I've ever known."

I leaned into her touch, savoring the warmth of her hand against my skin. "Then let's make sure you look absolutely stunning at the Banquet, shall we?"

Hestia beamed, her smile radiant. "I can't wait."
