Cross Dragon x Devils

Chapter 27: Chapter 27: A Name for the Void

Part 1: An Unexpected Connection

Kazuki stood in his room, pacing back and forth. The memory of his encounter with the Void Dragon lingered vividly in his mind. His muscles still trembled from the sheer intensity of it all. He could still feel the weight of the dragon's presence, the warmth of its power, and the cryptic promise of his untapped potential.

Just as he paused to catch his breath, a deep voice boomed in his head, startling him.

"So, you've returned to your restless state already. Are you always this anxious, human?"

Kazuki nearly jumped out of his skin. "What the—?! Is that... you?"

The voice chuckled, its tone as vast as the abyss. "Yes, it is I. Did you believe our connection was severed once you left the mental plane? Foolish boy. You've awakened a bond far deeper than you realize."

Kazuki froze, the realization dawning on him. "Wait... you mean I can talk to you anytime? Like, right now?"

"Yes. Our bond transcends the boundaries of space and consciousness. Wherever you go, I can follow. Consider it a... gift of our shared fate."

Kazuki groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Great. Now I've got a giant, ancient dragon narrating my life. Just what I needed."

"I do not 'narrate,'" the Void Dragon replied indignantly. "I observe, advise, and occasionally mock."

"Fantastic," Kazuki muttered sarcastically.

Part 2: The Naming Dilemma

As the initial shock of the new connection wore off, Kazuki sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the floor. "Hey... listen. If we're going to be talking all the time, I can't keep calling you 'Void Dragon.' It's weird."

"Weird?" the dragon echoed, its tone sharp. "I am a primordial being, a force of nature, the embodiment of the void itself! And you find my title 'weird'?"

Kazuki shrugged. "Well, yeah. It's kinda impersonal. Don't you have, like, a real name or something?"

The Void Dragon was silent for a moment before replying, "No. In all my eons of existence, no one has ever given me a name."

"Seriously?" Kazuki asked, genuinely surprised.

"Yes. I was always known by my title, feared for my power. A name was never... necessary."

Kazuki tilted his head, a smirk forming on his lips. "Well, that changes now. If we're partners, you need a proper name. Something cool, powerful, and... not so gloomy."

The Void Dragon growled softly. "I do not require such frivolities."

"Too bad," Kazuki said, leaning back with a grin. "I'm naming you anyway."

He thought for a moment, tapping his chin. "Let's see... you're all about darkness, power, and mystery. How about... Tenebris? It means 'darkness' in some ancient language, I think."

The dragon was silent, contemplating the name. After a long pause, it finally spoke. "Tenebris... it is fitting. I accept."

Kazuki grinned triumphantly. "See? Told you it'd be cool."

Tenebris let out a low rumble, something between a sigh and a growl. "Do not let this go to your head, boy."

Part 3: A Test of Power

Later that day, Kazuki found himself in the academy's training grounds. The recent encounters with Zephyr Shadowblade and the mysteries surrounding the White Dragon had left him restless. If he was going to protect everyone he cared about, he needed to get stronger.

"Alright, Tenebris," he said aloud, earning a few odd looks from passing students. "If we're going to work together, I need to figure out how to use your power better."

"You presume much," Tenebris replied. "But very well. I shall guide you... if only to ensure you do not embarrass yourself further."

Kazuki smirked. "Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence."

As he stepped into the training arena, he activated his combat suit. The sleek, black-and-violet armor materialized around him, its energy pulsing with newfound intensity.

"Focus on your breathing," Tenebris instructed. "Feel the void within you. Let it guide your movements."

Kazuki closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He felt the familiar surge of energy coursing through his veins, but this time, it was different. The connection to Tenebris made the power feel... alive, as if it were responding to his emotions.

"Now, summon the transformation," Tenebris commanded. "You've done it before, albeit clumsily. Do it again."

Kazuki grit his teeth, his body trembling as he tapped into the void's energy. A faint aura of violet light began to emanate from his body, growing brighter with each passing second.

"Good," Tenebris said. "But do not stop there. Push further. Let the power consume you, but do not lose yourself to it."

Kazuki roared, the light around him exploding outward. His hair stood on end, glowing with a faint purple hue. His strength surged, his senses sharpened, and his combat suit seemed to fuse with his body, becoming an extension of his will.

"Whoa," Kazuki muttered, staring at his hands. "This feels... incredible."

"It is but a fraction of what you are capable of," Tenebris said. "This state is merely the beginning. You have much to learn."

Part 4: A Sudden Intrusion

Before Kazuki could fully grasp his newfound power, an alarm blared across the academy. Students and faculty alike began to panic, rushing to find safety.

"What's going on?" Kazuki asked, his adrenaline spiking.

Tenebris growled. "Trouble. And it's coming straight for you."

Kazuki turned toward the entrance of the training grounds, his heart pounding as a shadowy figure emerged from the smoke. The figure's eyes gleamed with malice, and its voice dripped with venom.

"Kazuki Satoru," the figure hissed. "Your time has come."

Kazuki clenched his fists, his aura flaring once more. "Great. Just what I needed. Alright, Tenebris, let's see what this power can really do."

Tenebris chuckled darkly. "Now you're speaking my language. Show them what it means to challenge the Void."

With a fierce battle cry, Kazuki charged forward, ready to face whatever challenge awaited him.
